This is a bit of advance warning, but we've been kicking it around for a bit and a reunion is loosely planned for the weekends of March 21st and 28th.

You have two months to reinstall your games, make sure they're patched (remember this is EA DICE, do not assume it will be easy), figure out who can play with whom and who would prefer to play with whom in what timezones and with what expansion packs.

By all means have some pickup games in the intervening time if you like but save your enthusiasm for the big day.

Thanks for mentioning that Norsehound, as I'm going to be running on a Vista machine and hadn't thought about any problems that might crop up! Last I remember with 2142 I had problems with Punkbuster consistently starting up so I had to do it manually or something, or add it to the list of windows services, which is fairly idiotic since you'd think the program would make sure it was running when it started.

Also recommended is to manually update your Punkbuster - head to their website, download the auto-downloader/updater and select BF2 in the drop down menu. It will update the PB software and the game registry files.

BF2 often doesn't update automatically and so players find themselves kicked out of games after 2mins.

I can play Bf2 (vanilla or SF) or BF2142 (vanilla or NS), though I'm most interested in 2141 atm, since that's what I'm playing the most. Though some Karkand or Mashtuur action will be welcome :) Just be sure to fire off some PMs a couple of days beforehand so people will remember.

I'd be happy to play BF2, can't say i have any interest in 2142 though, I've got vanilla, SF, EF and AF, would be pretty fun to try and fill a whole team with RN guys, pubbing can be real annoying when half the team is doing entirely their own thing.

I didn't get Armored Assault, for instance. If I didn't get Special Forces, I would have marked it like that but bolded EU instead. Etc.

If enough people mark it like this (apart from those like Dan who just say "everything") I'll make a spreadsheet.

The timezone is an afterthought, but some people might find is useful.

I'm already operating on an admin profile and it still kicks me from the game after a minute.

Apparently Vista users are stuck with this problem with no way out- I came to an official forums where people were complaining high and low of the issues, some resolved, others not.

I tried reinstalling Punkbuster to no effect, changed the compatibility settings to no effect... so I just gave up altogether and only fire it up for skirmishes in SP. Disappointing, but it seems to be the only way I can enjoy this beautiful game.

C'mon Squid, two and a half minutes to install v1.41 is not forever.

Actually it is computer-dependant, so logically faster machines will install it faster.

NOTE: If you have BF2 and Special Forces, install BF2 then SF then patch to v1.41. I think you have to apply the v1.41 patch last no matter how many expansions you have (and why it's probably so large, since it has to streamline BF2 and three expansions in one).

What I like about BF2142 is that it rewards good squad play by allowing you access to 2 upgrades for each class temporarily without having to attain those unlocks.

Patching BF2 is a diabolical practice, which involves the worship of certain heathen gods, and lots of sputtering black candles, before 1.41 I always had to install all the patches, in order, but well, BF2 is pretty temperamental to say the least, still love it though.

I patched directly from the disc to 1.41 and then installed SF and EU, and was able to connect to and play two rounds on a Kharkand server.

Is NS booster pack worth it? Seeing as you can get the NS extra items as Field Unlocks, is there any point to getting the booster pack? Are the two new vehicles avail on the NS maps worth the extra pennies? I'd like your thoughts please.

Oh and I've rinced through 5 unlocks in the past 2 weeks in preperation for this get together next month :)

I guess it just depends on how much you enjoyed BF2142. For me personally, it was worth it. The gameplay is somewhat different with the Goliath maps, and the new vehicles are pretty cool. If you were meh on BF2142, then I think you wouldn't enjoy it.

I'd say the RDX shotgun as a permanent upgrade is worth it in itself :)
Also Assault Lines is a fun play mode. If you like BF2142 and want some new maps it's a good investment
