Skirmish Game Setup Screens in DoW2

Assuming the DoW2 Skirmish Game Setup screens will be similar to DoW, I would like to see the following screens, maps and scenarios.


SKIRMISH GAME SETUP – MAP LIST

MAP LIST
I have lots of maps and most of them I don’t play, it would be nice to sort and then display just the maps I want to play.
The current list just has two columns, Name of Map, Number of players.

A suggestion would be to have the following columns;
Name of Map
Number of players
Map Size 129 or 257 and 513 (or S, M and L)
Number of Resource Points / Listening Posts
Number of Relic
Number of Critical Locations
Do not show in preferred list [Tick Box]***

*** This means that when new maps are downloaded they would display immediately. I can also see all the maps I like, so they show up when I am about to play a game.

A viewing toggle would be required to show all maps and preferred maps.

The map making program could calculate a partial filename eg
2-257-6-2-3-Blood River so each file does not have to be opened.



Table Top Style Maps
We are all used to skirmish maps, here is an idea for another type of map!

Table Top style maps
Typically a 2 or 4 player map, but could be more.
These maps is split to 3 areas, just like the table top where;
1 is your deployment / build area
2 no mans land
3 you enemies deployment / build area

- Resources are set high, like Quick Start
- For the first five minutes of the game spawning / building times are set to zero, so unit production is very fast.
- units / buildings cannot cross into area 2 no mans land
- if the map maker has put Strategic Points (RP/LP / Critical Locations Relics) in your deployment area you can capture them.
- if the map maker has put Critical Location in no mans land then this is like taking objectives / table quarters
- if the map maker has put no Resource Points (Listening Posts) on the map then there no more resources.
- after 5 minutes the game plays as “normal” you can cross into no mans land.



SKIRMISH GAME SETUP – PLAYERS LIST
Starting Resources field
This is an ATTEMPT to have mixed ability players in the same game by allowing the poorer skilled players an advantage or the stronger players a disadvantage by varying the starting resources.

I would like to see a percentage field against each player where 100% is standard resources and can be changed by units of 10%. For example 50% equals 50 % of the starting resources and 190% equals just that 190% of the starting resources.

So if a poor player wishes to play against a veteran player the poor player could try and balance the game by changing his resources so they exceeded the veteran players.

In multiplayer games the game host sets a toggle;
- allow variable starting resources (when friends play against each other)
- disallow variable starting resources, so fixed at 100%



Standard, Doubling or Tripling etc. of max caps
Game Options panel (you know on the right hand side of the players list)

Allow the choice of increasing the maximum squad/support caps allowed, depending on the number of players in the game. This will hopefully please those mods that have this as their sole criteria, so they can play bigger games.
For example in a two player game the option to increase the squad/support caps from 20/20 could be 30/30, 40/40, 60/60, 80/80

So in a two player game options are x1, x1.5, x2, x3 and x4
Three player game options are x1, x1.5, x2 and x3
Four player game options are x1, x1.5 and x2
Five player game options are x1 and x1.5
Six player game options are x1 and x1.5

It would be nice if the hard caps would scale as well, but that might be a bit too ambitious. In a two player game allowing 2 or 3 or 4 or 6 or 8 Predators, other wise the above does not keep to the ratios.
Commanders/Heros would stay at one, no matter the increase.



So any more thoughts???

I'd like them to include some, unnecessary, yet cool features. Such as Time of Day and stuff

Being able to choose if the map is raining, snowing, w/e, and depending on the weather, units LOS could be affected.

Have hostile creatures or civilians running amok, and the frequency of their appearance. Be interesting, me thinks :)
