[2.301] Sherman Upgun vs the default sherman gun

From what ive been reading, forget that crap about the default sherman gun being good against infantry. Upgun ASAP. I had the misconception that i should keep the default weapon vs blobs - due to the tooltip. Its bs.

If anyone can translate the numbers itd be greatly appreciated.

Upgunned Sherman deals more splash damage. Unupgunned Sherman has a smaller splash but the damage is higher.

It's not that noticeable, but the 1 second difference in reload means the 75mm Sherman is better by about 16% against infantry.

The stock (un-upgunned) sherman is generally better vs PE, it is better against infantry (I can't remember how, there's a big thread abotu it on GR.org), and all of the PE 'armor' is relatively soft-skinned, bar the Panther call-in.

This is why you constantly see 4 man axis squads getting cut by half with the first shell coming out of nowhere and then being forced to hit retreat.

Sherman is usually better than Panzer IV support tank against infantry, because of it's splash damage (AoE) and the fact that Axis squads are smaller in size compared to Allied.
However the Sherman is a glass cannon, and Schrecks rip it a new ass in about 4-6 hits.

plain and simple, buy the upgun people. I like to think of it as it has a way better chance of killing that 1 pgren with triple vet or gren with triple vet than the normal gun. Its wayyyyyy better.

The upgun is better. It is not REALLY better against infantry - bigger splash, slightly slower rate of fire -> roughly the same. Against armor it's twice as good, which is a significant improvement. You don't need to buy the upgun until you have to fight tanks with the sherman.

The sherman will never be more than decent against armor, though.
