Well Age of Conan finally came out, and from what I have seen is pretty decent. I am playing a female Tempest of Set on the Cimmeria (RP-PvP) server named Slaana.

So:

What server are you on/going to be on?

Class?

Name?

This would be a good way to get onto servers with known people/guilds.

Im off work today and tomorrow and i think i remember reading that i could buy the game online today and pay 5 euros or something to get early access (which has started).

Though i cant find out for certain as the official forums are only for members and the Admin isnt letting new people register.

You can't get into Early Access anymore. It was a limited give-away, only the first few thousand people were allowed to get EA. You can download it from Gamestop I think.

Is this actually based on Conan the Barbarian? I can't believe such an idea ever went through, and I'm even more amazed that it is apparently an OK game.

Yep, it is based on Conan the Barbarian. It has actually been one of the more high-profile MMOs over the last few years of development because of the fighting style. Rather than just sit and spam buttons, you have to select every swing, you have to do a certain combo to create effects; casters get spellweaving later on which lets you combine spells, at the risk of your health, for greater effect.

All but 5 of the classes are combat classes, while 3 are nuker/healers and 2 are typical mages/necros.

There was a poll on the old AoC forums that asked what people expected to play; the results were very evenly divided amongst the 12 classes, with over a thousand responses if I recall correctly.

Got a 25 Necromancer on Aquilonia (RP-PVP). Quite fun actually. I love how one of our feat spells last 3 mins, and the damage increases exponentially. So while I get ganked due to my fragile form and 1 frame per second, I can still get my revenge (unless they are a healing class).

Also, I wished Funcom would grant me forum access so I can read the class forums! :(

Was actually looking forward to this, but since it's been released... I don't know , maybe it's the combat that looks a bit chaotic and clunky at times, or just the whole MMO thing which is holding me back. Anyway I'm strapped for cash as it is and recently got into the Mythos beta so...

Honestly it is more rewarding compared to WoW. You actually level quite fast, but not too fast and the game does not rape you in the butt for playing a squishy class (Priests). Also the PvP can be awesome if you do not get jumped or have 1 fps like me :P

My graphic card is a x1950 and well within the range of minimum and recommended, but my CPU and RAM falters. My CPU is an Athlon 3800+, which gives me 2.4 Ghz single core, and my RAM is only 1g. Both are minimum specs.

I run with lowest performance and I manage to get 20-30 fps in non-crowded areas. I get 1-10 in the city.

Why can't you get onto the forums? The login info should be the same as your game login.

Also, damn, I wish I had the time for a fulltime job, I'd go for the community management spot in Oslo they announced yesterday. I live about 5 mins walk from their Oslo offices. But studies are coming in the way :(

Question: Did they get the magic right? It the Conan "universe," magic users aren't like what most people think of. They generally don't walk around hurling lightning bolts and fireballs at people.

Magic users are more prone to summon demons or transform into a monster.

The magic users don't themselves hurl fireballs and lightning. Most of their damage comes from DoTs that they put on players, and their pets. It is "Conan" in that sense.

BUT! The priest classes as of now are EXACTLY like the mages in other games, except we have enough HoTs to tank like... a tank. My tempest can hurl lightning out of her hands (active), head (passive), chest (passive), totem/cyclone (passive) and more. Consequently, the priest classes are the best classes currently in everything.

The spellweaving doesn't even work correctly currently. Right now, all it does is buff your spells and lower your defense/no movement, instead of the combining spells deal.

I will say that it does take a bit more thought to heal though. For example:

All of the priests have 2 identical HoTs (identical cross-archetype with different names) and 1 direct heal (that cannot be used on the same player more than once a minute). Basically, what happens is that once you put your HoTs up, it becomes a game of catch-up with your heals rather than like a healer in other games. You have to know when to use stuns to let your HoTs give life, root and run for life gaining, knock backs, etc rather than spamming 1 heal button. If Conan got one thing right, it was the healing system.

I installed this a couple days ago. It's really fun, but very un-polished - though I suppose it's better than many mmos at launch.

It's also been two days since I registered with the forums, and the thirty minutes I'm supposed to wait for my account to be processed is a damn long thirty minutes. By the same ratio, my month of prepaid access should last until about 2015....

It's worth a buy, if you're willing to forgive what's missing or broken and enjoy what's there. Otherwise, wait a couple months and hope they don't throw out the good with the bad in the process of fixing what's broken and adding in the intended content.

You have to go into one of the options after you create the game account where you specify what you want your forum handle and password to be.

Scimitark, the only problem with the healing server is that on the Cultural PvP servers, if I as a Stygian team up with an Aquilonian Priest of Mitra, and I'm attacked by another Aquilonian, the Priest will heal both me and my attacker (since they are of the same culture and will as such always be counted as allies).

The xp speed is just great. Running from A to kill something at B is inevitable in any game, but progress is much better than it was in WoW (release till today).

Classes have very interesting stuff.

Hmm, good question. Currently, I am not sure where to go with my lvl36 (soon). There are these weird moments with the assassin where you either withstand punishment and kill stuff or instantly go down in flames - in other words, sometimes you are doing well and then this other moment you get wtfpwned by the same sort of mob (even same lvl ^^).

This is a normal law in mmorpgs anyways.

But aside to those moments, it's not that bad.

Surprisingly, assassins have naturally more hp than bear-shaman; something that one of my rl friends are bitching about lately ^^

Another thing is that it is not really easy to tell what is really "unique" about assassin. The only real rogue'ish thing I see is the instant critical strike from stealth, the rest is derwish combo-mashing :D
We have yet to see how it is at lvl80.

If there is one funny thing, it seems assassin is also capable of knockbacks like that Horse Mount kicking vid on youtube (Snap Kick feat-ability) - Just imagine yourself shouting "This is Sparta!" and kicking somebody some 10meters away :) :) :)!
