I know why they only get 1 jump because they come out fast. But later on in the game they don't seem as useful for tieing up squads with only 1 jump, while other races Hellions,ASM,Stormies etc all have 2 jumps so more useful at tieing things up, and these are units are t1.5 except Hellions which is t1.

So why not make the research 'Jetpack Boosters Research' (t1.5 research from Bar) give them a 2nd jump so they become more useful later in the game.

I don't think this will make them imba just more useful as the game progresses. If you don't like the idea of 2 jumps on Raps with PS in t1.5, give them the extra jump in tier2.

Thoughts?

I would rather see that combined with speed fiends..But yes in tier 2 not in tier 1

Um... is this problem game-breaking? It ain't too much of a balance issue is it? But if you ask me, yeah, just give'em two jumps after t2. Fixed.

Something similar has been suggested for a long long time now (may even date back to vanilla, can't remember). Perfectly acceptable for raps to get 2 jumps from 1.5 onward in my book

Yeah. This has been covered before.

Raps need to stay at their 1.5 Jumps in T1.
However from T2 up, they should get 2 jumps like everyone else really (not that CSM T2 is weak anyway, it's already f-uber, but still), so they retain a bit more usefulness post T1.

I would not be okay with 2 jumps for them in T1.5 so long as they retain their Power Swords. Either 2 jumps in T2, or 2 jumps in T1.5 with Power Swords either brought into line with SM Power Swords, or pushed back to T2.

Tying it into the "Jetpack Boosters Research" for the Raptors is good sense. Personally, I think the Jetpack Boosters research should also give them the Furious Charge charge bonus that CSM and Cultists get too; But once again it'd have to be a T2 thing (maybe just make the standard Furious Charge research benefit them too instead then?).

I seem to remember from messing around in the editor that theres no modifier for increasing the number of jumps so no easy way of fixing it without changing hardcode.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Simply attach the 2nd jump to the speed booster upgrade at the temple.

It's perfectly fine that way, I mean, the upgrade takes an entire freaking minute, and it needs the armory, so it won't be coming out too fast.

On top of making a near-completey unused ability a bit of a comeback, it makes scaling raps a slightly less useless idea.

Yeah combine it with speed fiends in T2 (rename the research to something more fitting if desirable). Thats what post #2 suggested and I %100 agree with that.

KotCR I don't think Raptors need Furious Charge as well. With Speed Fiends they already spell doom for units like Fire Warrior, furious charge would be over the top I think. Players might not bother with Zerks anymore unless they need the morale immunity.

If those bastards get even more scalability, they need their power swords brought into line with SM power swords.

Thru rotten game design, Chaos units become obsolete since WA, and it's not completely fixed thru DC and SS. This doesn't mean Chaos is weak; it's just how they work. Can't just give its units blanket buffs.

People would still use Zerkers because they don't require any research to become able to fight in tier2 they also get the ability to break morale in tier3 which is useful, they also do more damage then Raptors anyway, just Raptors would be better in some situation while Zerks would be better in other situations.

I was really just trying to emphasize that furious charge would be OP for raptors. Jetpack units given a charge bonus + speed fiends + beserk rage :O

I'm not saying it would make raptors too good against other specialist melee, I'm saying it would make them too good at what they already do well - which is chasing down units, typically ranged or broken squads.

Well it just seems odd that CSM can maintain indefinetly a charge speed which Raptors can only match for short periods using Speed Fiends. Should CSM be able to charge into melee faster than Raptors? Just seems odd.

But at the very least, their Chainswords could do with benefitting from the DPS bonus offered from the Furious Charge research.
