View Full Version : Keeping the game frozen in perpetual limbo.

Anyone who is familiar with DoW will probably remember the awesome ability to indefinitely freeze the game, a popular method was to mash the PrtSc key. What was even more fun about this is that the player lagging the game could even kick YOU, if you were not quick enough to kick him.

I just had a game against a player who seemed to be able to replicate this situation, although I don't know the method he used. The game froze and told me it was giving him a lag grace period. After about a minute it asked me if I wanted to kick him, however nothing resulted from this. Eventually after about 10 minutes I guess the guy just gave up and dropped. I find this extremely suspicious because he is a rank 16 player but didn't strike me as being particularly great, so I'm wondering if he has used this method to gain wins.

Possibly related or unrelated, after the game my rank was raised to 4 but it doesn't seem to have saved to my stats.

Could it have just been normal lag/connection drop?

The rank issue is unrelated, I've gone up to rank 3 several times now.

It is entirely possible but the circumstances seemed suspicious given my previous experiences with DoW.

There is currently a very malicious bug hiding in the game that does the following:

Between 5-15 minutes in for SOME players, for SOME reason (myself included, typically happens with Space Marines)-- the client will lockup. The screen freezes. You can't scroll, you can still move the cursor, and teh music still plays.

To the other players, you are lagging out. I tested this on vent today.

When I crashed this time, I just stayed in the game and had my friend (who did not crash) tell me what happened. The game stayed frozen for the full 2 minutes that I kept the client up.

As soon as I alt tabbed and closed the client via Ctrl Alt Del (the process was not responding), the game (for everyone else) immediately started up again.
So yes, it's annoying. But no, it's not intentional. It's a very annoying crash bug that has been running rampant since Day 1 of Beta, and is elusive enough that nobody knows what's causing it. I personally believe it to be related to playing SM with other people lagging.

Well it's good to hear that it's not an exploitable bug. Still sounds terrible though.

I don't think its just space marines, its has happened to me 3 times now. Only when playing against human opponents. I'm sure one time I was playing orcs against eldar.
First time it happened I waited a while before killing the process, though it might recover, feel sorry for the people a was playing with if it keeps them locked too.

I personally believe it to be related to playing SM with other people lagging.

I've had it twice while playing as orks, both games were a 3v3 - so it's not specific to playing as SM.
