Just wondering from what you guys know already from the beta you disected, do you think it will be possible to implement a survival style mod like Argonauts previous ones?
They were my DoW bread and butter and kept me playing for long years, I'd love to see something simular!

I have never played his mod, but as far as I know he's using custom maps with markers and we can't place markers on existing maps // create maps without the WorldEditor.

aye I was assuming that we would need to wait for a map maker, but do you think (assuming one is released simular to previous one) that it would be possible?

If/when a map creator is released, I don't see why one wouldn't be possible... though it likely wouldn't use a direct port of his code. The thought of survival maps with destructable cover is intriguing, though... and it would also make things progressively harder as the match goes on because your original cover areas would gradually get destroyed.

But all races can generate yellow through green cover. This strategy is critical in late game team matches.

*if* the SAR code is similar (and we've no reason to think it will be fundamentally different) then it is possible to create a survival mode for DOWII. However, the gameplay style of DOWII simply isn't DOWI, and a survival mode may simply fall flat on it's face as the weapons, units and tactics are very different.
The Survival Mode was created to give the feeling of holding a position against overwhelming odds with a feeling of EPIC and titanic struggles. This is not DOWII. Nothing about it is epic. The conept may not work.
The execution of the mod is possible even without the World Editor as SCAR positions can be created through code and simply forced onto the existing maps. The units and waves would work in the same way and the SCAR commands would be very similar. In short, and to answer your question - it would be possible.
Additions could be units that could MAKE cover, crews of servitors that would rebuild sandbag positions and curtain walls in between waves, and hordes of chaos slaves throwing their bodies onto spikes to provide cover for their superiors.
We'll have to see what Relic provides before much speculation can happen. I'd rather do a single player linear campaign through SCAR than recreate the survival mode.

Holding a position against overwhelming odds with an even smaller team, while not as epic or titanic, would certainly feel even more heroic, kinda like the final battle in Saving Private Ryan. While the gameplay would certainly need to be different, I think the concept would still work very well.
An yeah, your survival mod certainly was the bread and butter game for a lot of us ;) , especially the SP and offline players, I'd hate to think that we might not get a chance to see it in DOW2 :noway:

Argonaut, you should check out what the Joint Operations guys did with Company of Heroes; it's effectively the same as your survival maps, but not Dawn of War. So I wouldn't say that it would work.
Defending a position with your handful of units against hordes of Gaunts is quite epic.

it is a shame that squads are capped so heavily though, I think a few more would be nice.
if you do a campaign id also be very happy chappy
If modding takes off the ground, removing squad caps and changing the population limits will be easy work. So bear in mind, there is a future for mods like this.

The ground work for a survival mod is already in DoW2. The campaign defence missions are just smaller scale clones of the survival design.
At the end of the day it doesn't matter about DoW2's original design. Just mod it how you want it.

to be honest without a map editor I would not be happy with the current maps on survival as they just seem to be not easily defendable.

Actually, with just one more devastator squad, at least the Typhon defence map would be easily defensible from both directions at once, especially if you are given a few extra turrets to place as well (Not that it isn't easily defensible with just Avitus/dread for heavy support).
If we could get the SCAR code I think it could work pretty well. Might need to restrict reinforcements to in between waves as well as that could make it a bit too easy.

Hmm, some good thinking there darkelf, it's entirely possible we could even have some sort of drop pod power like the 1 from MP to reinforce with more squads as the difficulty rises, would be interesting

I would love to see such a mod.
The only thing that would make it better would be the addition of the Imperial Guard (who should be able to build entrenchments).

Nids make for a good survival mod who did just waste them the first time in campaing seeing how long and how manyu you could waste, i think i got 500 nids on that one mission lol
