Hi i have a creative X-Fi Gamer edition card installed on my system and when i play DOW2 with the speakers set to default on the creative sound card the game stutters and freezes whilst playing. If i set default to the built in Realtek sound card the comp came with and plug the speakers in there instead the sound and game work fine. I therefore assume it must be a lack of ALchemy settings for the game and was wondering if anyone knew of the settings/solution to this problem. i have tried changing the setting the path location to "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2" which is where the game appears to be installed and using buffers of 4 number of voices as 128 (default for both) and duration of 10 - 30 in jumps of 5 each time and still find the game stuttering and freezing. I am running Vista 32bit and all the latest drivers etc. for the card including the latest alchemy.

Cheers for any help

I find alchemy doesnt work for me with my audigy 2 ZS platinum pro, it just makes the sound sound like its on slomo reverb.

b-b-b-b-b-b-a-t-t-t-l-l-l-e-l-e-e-e-e-e b-b-b-r-r-r-o-o-o-t-t-h-h-e-r-r-r-s-s-s-s-s-s

very odd.

I nuked alchemy and its working fine now except its still doing the same thing occasionally, no idea why. Any change in sound quality level has no effect.

Probably creative being useless again, heaven forbid they fix there awful drivers ......

Cheers for the suggestion but doesn't appear to make any difference for me. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated

Alchemy won't do anything for you since we do not use hardware acceleration, I assume you've already gotten the latest creative drivers, have you tried changing the speaker settings to stereo and see if that improves things?

The game is using windows default speaker configuration which is set to stereo in sound panel and i am running the latest drivers listed on the creative site for the X-Fi Xtreme Gamer edition card. I have realised i never mentioned there also appears to be a lot of static in the game when the sound does work properly that is

I've seen lots of reports of problems specifically with creative sound cards but some people are saying that it's fixed as soon as they update to the latest drivers. Others have also reported that muting / changing their gfwl voice settings helps, as well as changing the default format of the output from 24 bit 48khz to 16bit 44.1khz. See if any of that helps.

I've had stuttering on my own machine at home and I fixed it by making sure my video card runs on 16x PCI Express intead of 1x but that was using onboard sound.

Cheers changing to 16bit 44.1khz has stopped the freezing of the in game sound etc. I still seem to get a lot of static in "movies" when i go into the compaign map, the opening movies where it shows the various logo and the various cut scenes. The static clears as soon as i'm in the game itself so can now play with my proper sound card rather than the older onboard one but would like to be able to watch the various cutscenes without hearing all the static. I tried muting gfwl and also disabling steam in-game. Any ideas what might be causing this?

I have a creative SB X-Fi and Vista. So Creative ALchemy is not needed or does not work for Dawn of War 2 EAX effects and 3D audio?
