I have had problems with my graphics card overheating for quite some time now and I know the reason why it happens and ,methods of stopping it from heating up so it isn't normally much of a problem. However it is causing a particularly big problem for me in DoW:II. On the main menu I am averaging something close to 400fps (according to Xfire) and this is causing my graphics card to die before I get a chance to do anything. So what I need to know is how to limit the fps to a value that I want as you could do in the original Dawn of War and in most other games by setting the maxfps or refresh rate value. Do I need to edit a particular file, can it be done through launch options or the ingame console? I really hope there is a way of doing this or I have just wasted my money big time.

Please don't tell me to get a new graphics card because it more than meets the specifications to run the game and we aren't all as rich as you might be.

If you have your videocard overheating often, then you should fix that, instead of limiting any games' performance. Any hardware will die fast when overheating.

I am working on fixing it but I need a workaround until I can do that, and that workaround is going to have to be limiting the fps. I know why it overheats and I know its likely to damage the hardware, don't think I don't know that. I do know how to fix it but unfortunatley I don't have the tools I need.

It's my fault for not reading reviews of the card before I got it. Apparently overheating is a common problem in X1950 cards, particularly in the Sapphire variant.

You'll need to downclock your card then (opposite of overclock) No idea how it works for Ati, probably with ati tools. Limiting fps isn't going to help with heating issues, not from my experience anyway.

It does solve the problem, and it has helped me to cool my card down significantly in a lot of First Person Shooters.
