What does Infestation do (Single Player)?

As the title says, what does the infestation rating of the planets actually do except changing the graphics?

It says that it reduces the bonus from shrines. I guess that means tha bonus XP you get from them?
Is there anything else? And what happens when a planet gets fully infested?

I believe it just changes the terrain of the maps so you'll see more capillary towers.

I am fairly certain it makes missions with Tyranids on them more difficult - more buildings that spawn enemies and power generators that improve creatures around them.

yes it does, -.- on primarch nids comes in droves on defense mission drooooves if your infestation is 100 percent.


Just think of 1 mile, now times 1 mile by 20 ;p and you can figure out the waves of troops that comes out.

Plus attack mission they are a never ending flood. I mean i was walking and fighting all the way to the carnifex. None stop.
