View Full Version : [1.12] Am I missing something important here? HT beats a dreadnought in melee?

First off, no, it's not as simple as it sounds, there is of course more to it than that. I know that what cost me this game is really all the squads I lost and the times I tried to fight with only a small portion of my force, and not directly what I'm about to ask/complain about.

With that out of the way, what the hell happened to my dreadnought between 9 and 10 minutes!? The only AV he had was the VC warriors, which never got a shot off in their short lifespan. His other warriors were BS, not AG or VC. Do you mean to tell me a gaunt squad, a ripper squad, and an HT with no weapon upgrades can take down a dreadnought quickly and easily? Has it always been this way? I really need some help figuring out what exactly happened to my dread and how to avoid a similar fate in the future.

I apologize if I've come off a little ranty. This is my first night of automatch games since beta and It's made my worst night in the beta seem like loads of fun by comparison.

Watch it again, you never killed the venom cannon warrior squad. You killed two warriors from the squad but the venom cannon was firing at you the whole time at point blank range, that's what killed your dread.

I'll watch it again when I get the chance, but I believe you. Kinda defeats the point of melee-ing them if they can just keep shooting, though, right? Wasn't that one of the major bugs with IG waaaay back in WA? I can't imagine they'd let that slip again.

I does seem a little bit odd as I'd expect them to get tied up by the dreadnought. It might be worth doing a little testing to see if this is usually behaviour for the warriors, however I think it may simply have been unable to completely tie them up because of all the other units swarming it and blocking it a bit.

I did have him specifically target the VC squad, though. And in my experience, ranged AV units are all too eager to get into melee with any melee units that get close to them. I've lost plenty of Missile Marines and a few tankbustas because they insisted on meleeing a walker that got too close. To see VC warriors, which are normally a melee unit before the upgrade, defaulting to ranged behavior within melee range is very, very confusing to me.
