View Full Version : Power is really silly at the moment

Almost every 1v1 I play against 20+ players is determined by which one of us snipes the power gens in first 3 mins or so using grenades.

There is no way to recover since the player who lost their gens will not reach t2 before the enemy gets vehicles leaving them with no possible way to produce AV.

Space marines are screwed since they have no way to pull this off, I suppose you could try and defend the power gens with a heavy bolter but it would likely just lose map control by wasting an entire squad.

Space Marines can mulch Gens early with said Heavy Bolter squad. Sneak it over and wax the lot of them.

It doesn't matter who does it first, but rather who doesn't do it. Guardian Grenades, Warriors, Stikkbommaz and HB Devs are all good for burning down Gen farms.

if you didnt want them to burn down your gens, then you should have protected them.

Eldar have it pretty sweet in this regard. Nades are pretty much the first thing you'll get on your gu's, and with fof it's very easy to run over and nuke a bunch of gens.

That means the Gu aren't spamming their nades at your UNITS. Be thankful as they can easily remove more than 100 req's worth of stuff with two nades and a squad of Rangers.

The problem is once you raid their gens you can just ignore their T1 infantry, you may lose some points but because you tech to t2 a few minutes earlier you can just send a walker to camp at their HQ. The walkers are largely impervious to the turrets and will melee any AV you manage to produce as it spawns.

As soon as the walker is in your base you have lost the game since you cannot reinforce or build any units.

Nids can do a similar thing at t2/t3 though its not as bad. Just make suicidal attacks on their gens the first half of the game then fast tech to t3, produce one fex and park it in their base.

If you're taking out their gens, they should also be taking out your gens, matchups aside. Things should be even if both players are matched well.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering, same as Vis... what's stopping you (the OP) from doing the same to his gens and delaying his tech? It's not as if the player to take out enemy gens first gets an instant reward or something.

Unless, what you're not saying aloud is "He destroyed my entire army, and then he destroyed my gens because now I can no longer defend my assets... now I'm losing because he tiered up first..."

Well... in that case the problem is not the game...

It isn't really a problem, as many have already said, it is just the state of the game in higher fields of play, your number one priotry and usual first contact is over power nodes, typically over your closet or your opponent's one. To the victor go the spoils, but that doesn't mean the game is over if you lose this skirmish, you still have the further power node to capture (you did split your cappers right?) and the proximity to your own base and distance from his means you can mount a swift counterstrike.

I hardly see this as a balance issue considering the time it takes any army (some more than others) to take out generators in tier 1.

Well if he is SM relying on a heavy bolter to take down gens, the eldar can run around and harass his gens while keeping the HB team occupied/away. Eldar usually outnumber SM in tier 1 and HB's can easily get worked in a large map.
