I've run into this in a couple of games now: a Eldar player using the Warlock & Immolator, usually joined swiftly with Champion's Robe and Heart of Darkness.

A Warlock in CC with a Slugga squad can target self with Immolator and the slugga squad has a couple of seconds to get out alive. Even if you retreat immediately, you still take horrendous damage and casualties. Champion's Robe renders him extremely hard to take down, and Heart of Darkness just seals the deal with the ability to recharge a chunk of his power.

So... has anyone got any cunning ways of dealing with this tactic that they wouldn't mind sharing?

Ignore the WL and go for his Gu. The Gu are valuable, the WL isn't.

The WL with the Immolator trashes a Gen farm fairly quickly. I don't see how ignoring a unit with the firepower that it possesses buys me much. I realise the Gu are more expensive, but the damage output of the Warlock is pretty damn high. With the Warlock around it's extremely hard to use any ranged squads as he can just immolate their location, and cover seems to count for nothing.

If I've just taken a point with Kommando, 1 x Shootas and 1 x Sluggas, and just the Warlock turns up, what should I be doing? Ignoring him sounds like a recipe for loosing my squads, engaging him results in horrendous casualties, and running from him means conceding any area of the map he chooses to move his Warlock into. I might have to dig around for and then post the replay of the game I had tonight where this happened to me...

If he's tearing up your gens, sneak a Stikkbomma over to his gens. Mirror what he does all game using any units you have that can fulfill his role. If he's harassing your gens, he'll be missing a commander so you'll have free reign over his Gu so go and kill them.
