Game stating Steam is OFFLINE MODE when its not!

So I am trying to get a few online games with DoW2.
When I select MP and click the "Find game" for ranked games or "Custom Game" for unranked online game it opens up a pop-up stating that somehow Steam is in Offline Mode!

I have already checked my Steam client and it is ALWAYS on Online mode!

Whats up>?

Bring up Steam - files - make sure it says 'Go offline' on the 3rd option on the drop down list.

The Steam servers are currently down for me at the current time. Might be why you're having problems now.

Steam is down. Originally it was planned to be a 5 mins top downtime.

We'll have the servers down for maintenance around 3pm today. The outage should be very brief; less than five minutes.

We found some extra work to do, so the downtime will be a little longer than planned. Back up, soon ...

Seems to be working fine for me.

One thing that I noticed about steam when it was down yesterday, was that the 'Steam Community' tab was down as well - it'd been giving me the 'Error: Identifying Humanity' message when I tried logging in. Which, well, admittedly could have another explanation, but I don't *think* I'm a genestealer...

But aye, it might be a good way to check if it's going ok.

i get this occassionally, go offline then backon, and then logoff steam and then back on, that normally fixes it immediatly.
