Hi, i just made this in maya 5, i have no idea how to texture it and i was wondering if anybody could for me?
Anybody is free to use this model but please give credit where needed.
This would be like a seige cannon type weapon.
I was thinking of having to build the ship to house it, then you would have to warp the cannon itself in, and then you could fire it. It would be extremely expensive to build but it would be devastating.
Hey, im new to the whole rendering scene, could someone gimme some nice settings to use in maya 5?

OH! By the way this thing has no goblins on it yet, thats why it seems sorta plain. How many polygons should it be under?

The story behind it will be that the higaarian (sp?) people have backwards-engineered the cannon on sajuuk, not for the power but for the type of beam able to penetrate the tmat armour.
This thing will take an unbelievable amount of money and time to get, and then it will have upgrades for distance and power, and type of piercing ability. I hope to learn how to add ships to the game. I still need to learn how to add things to the build.lua and the research.lua files. I also need to learn how to make hardpoints so that i can later make the ship that will house the cannon, trust me, this thing will blow you and everyone in its way away.
Still working on the engines, i still have to add the goblins to it and remember thsi is my first ship. :)

gonna make some comments on the model geometry because I have been doing extensive performance testing for my mod because of the polycounts and think it may be helpful.
remove all the 'ribbing' and work on doing that effect as a texture (render side and top views of the high poly and apply to the low poly) 17,000 polys is really going to hurt the game. All of that is tied up in the ribbing along the sides of the ship which is wasteful in the engine because it is really quite small. With extensive LOD managment and tweaking a ship with 3000-5000 polys with goblins at maximum zoom in is acceptable. However you have to quickly scale the LOD to keep performance acceptable. the main reason I say this is because your ship looks like it would be a one time build ship, but would have a huge supporting fleet which would greatly up the poly count displayed when using the ship.
also if you have any small rounded surfaces you must reduce your face count. I recieved a model from someone for use in game that was nearly 10000 polys because their engines had 30 segments around and they used heavily subdivided boxes as a primative. I was able to remodel the same geometry in under 1200 polys with more detail than the original. high poly models in general are a pain to texture and take way to much time to make
from a design point of view.
the front is way too symetrical vertically. maybe extending the top extruded boxes and shortening the bottom ones and making the 'gun' center section vertically assymetrical also? Also hiig designs are flat and slender, asymetrical horizontally. Right now this looks like some sort of huge bentusi probe but backwards (put the engine glow where gun is supposed to be)
Also think of the function of the geometry, even if it is outlandish technology most of the time you can find 'rational' explainations of why things are placed where. for example, a huge gun would devote all its power to being a huge gun and wouldn't have a large main engine, probably just some manuvering thrusters. obviously the rear bulge could be a power generator. the top fan some sort of radiating device. the forward prongs could be some sort of beam aiming or containment. additionally since it is a reversed engineered ship it would probably not look pretty with sloping or rounded countours. It would be impressive in its functionality, being a prototype weapon. So in effect very skeletal and mean looking because it would be wasteful to make a proper hull for a prototype.

if i remember correctly you should be able to change the backround color under View->Camera-> camera prefences->backround color or something... im not at home so i cant say exactly where...

You're fairly new, so welcome to the fora. Surely you have read the forum guidelines.
3. No bumping old threads with inane replies like "lol" or "i agree". Only add to an old thread if your comments are relevant and would be seen as a viable addition to a thread. Continuing on a conversation dropped months ago is not a viable reason.
The guy who started this thread and made the models is suspended, and the thread hasn't been active for two months. Posting here makes no sense.

Unicron, there is a forum in the Forum Administration section called "Karos Graveyard", in which all suspensions and bans are announced.
SoheilsX was suspended for excessive spamming, I think.
