...In fact, it might even be less of a mod than that. But it's also my first try. Now, I'm still working on fixing whatever .script error is preventing me from sticking constructable ships and subsystems into the game. So far everyone in the forum has been so patient and helpful that I've actually started to feel bad for my Receiving-And-Not-Giving ways. So I thought I'd contribute what little I have made to the group environment. Thus I present...

Your Mothership Is No Longer Useless! is a very, very simple tweaking of vanilla HW2 (hence calling it a micromod) which alters the basic weapons on Shipyards, Motherships and Carriers. Because, frankly, for a mothership, the Pride of Hiigara was really, really puny. I haven't given the exact same armaments to Vaygr and Hiigaran production vessels, since this would be boring. Instead I've tried to pick weapon configurations in-keeping with the different races' design aesthetics. It has altered the game balance a bit, but I've tried to steer away from making anything too powerful; just ships strong enough to hold their own. And if used properly, Motherships and Carriers now make very useful offensive units. But just like the queen in chess, you really don't want to loose them...
Anyway, it's just a quick little bit of fun, but it should provide at least a couple of hours of amusement. I won't tell you what any of the new weapon configurations are- figuring that out will be the fun part. Oh, just one more thing; at first, the AI computer doesn't always seem to be getting the hang of the new weapon systems. However, set it to hard and back it into a corner and this changes very quickly...
**Oh, and obviously let me know if it doesn't work! No reason it shouldn't, but if it doesn't, I'll know why.

Good idea! Why would your main ship be defenseless. why would you spend 3000 ru's on a BC and get it destroyed by some bombers. why spend 60 years making a ship, only to have it blown up by a frigate!

@Adamstrange: It's a Zipped up data folder with .ship and .weapon folders, since I don't know how to make .big files. Once you download and unzip it, then you should just be able to plonk it in your data folder as per normal. The "your" stands for the name of the micromod- when it asked me for the file name, the website refused to use more than one word... Anyway, let me know if you have any other problems.
@Phatboygeo: Exactly! I suppose you could say that it wasn't finished at departure, but the damn thing could construct a starfleet for itself, it can construct a couple of machine gun emplacements on the move!

I unzipped it [actually 7 zipped it] and I got all the files.

Bentusi there is an error in the game.
WEAPON FIRE ERROR: Could not load weapon fire Kinetic_Rapid_hgn

WEAPON FIRE ERROR: Could not load weapon fire Kinetic_Small_1 I would have fixed this but I don't have the mod's weaponfire folder and I don't know how you set this up within the mod or if the weapon has a custom effect so it wouldn't be right if I added something to the mod that wasn't supposed to be there.
Once you fix it just send me the file and I will "BIG IT" for you.

take out the folders:
weapon\hgn_kineticautogun
weapon\vgr_flechettecannonassaultfrigate...
those ones are not being used in the mod. (specifically...)
I think Bentusi_Core just forgot to remove them before he packed it up... (probably...) or forgot to pack up the weaponfire folder... (probably not, seems how it was all talk about the carrier/moship/shipyard, not about fighters/frigates)
Forgetfulness happens...

Ah, Aijsunrise is right- I think I see the problem, I had another mod already in my data folder and I forgot to take it out. I've cleaned it up, so this version should work. Just in case, I've also included my weaponfire script folder. Bear in mind that there may still be traces of work from the other mod in the weaponfire folder [it was an SFX update] that are not my own stuff. I daren't remove them in case something breaks.

I saw that the Vgr Carriers can defend themselves but it would be cool if you put prebuilt weapon subsystems on them so that you can see them fire.
I did see the Vgr MS and SY get attacked but I didn't see any defensive weapons on them so that should be added also.
I set the game so that the AI would battle itself [I had to do other things at the same time] and came back to see the Hgn defeat the Vgr.
Normally if there is a problem the game would crash so it didn't.
Now if there is a crash I would imagine it would be caused by this line of code in the Hgn MS:
StartShipHardPointConfig(NewShipType, "TestSubsystem", "Weapon_HullDefense8", "Weapon", "Generic", "Destroyable", "","hgn_newsubsystem", "", "", "", "", "", "", "");
I would figure that under normal conditions the game should crash to the desktop because there is no folder containing this subsystem but it didn't.
What is this subsystem supposed to do ?

Oh, the newsubystem was a test I was undertaking to see if I could stick a constructable subsystem in the game, but it refused to show up- Ajlsunrise is making a tutorial which should enable me to see what I'm doing wrong. That subsystem itself is derelict- it doesn't do anything, so you can remove the line of code if you want. I left it in there because, frankly, I forgot about it. I doesn't seem to have any effect on the game whatsoever, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Yeah, visible subsystems would be nice... I'll work on it assuming I can follow through Ajl's For-Dummies-Like-Me tutorial. Actually, the reason I gave the carriers those particular weapons was because was 'cause elsewhere in the game they don't seem to require any kind of turret to fire. They do come from somewhere, though- I made sure all weapons fire out of existing hardpoints, so the carrier does have emitter arrays, the weapons aren't just spawning out of nowhere. But yes, turrets would be cool... I just want them to be buildable.
As for the Vgr MS and SY... yes, they most definitely do have weapons. Trust me. However, the Vgr AI seems a lot less willing to use its defences unless really pushed. The Vgr MS only ever fights back when under direct sustained attack. I have no idea why this is- I think there's a line of code in the AI that says it's only supposed to use the MS defensively. When playing, you do often have to aim and fire the new weapons yourself- that could be why.
But give the playing as the Vgr a try. Wait till the enemy sends a strike-craft swarm after you. It's a bit of a light-show.

Use modpackager, its complicated to use, but it works well
Well actually it corrupts the files when it compiles it. why do you think i got a bollocking from the crossfire team :)

I've heard that unfbig corrupts tthe file so that multiplayer doesn't always function properly.

Hey guys,
I can't figure out how to open this file. It just says "your" . If I make it a .rar or a .zip Winrar tells me it would be a corrupted archive. How did you get it open?

The 'Your' thing is my fault- the thing wouldn't let its title be more than a word, but I didn't realise that. I don't know about this error message... the main link is a data folder in an ordinary zip package, so .zip should work fine. If you're using the .Big file, you don't need to open it- just stick it in your data folder and run the old fashioned command line override.

Still not working. My PC tells me the file has 0 Bytes at all...if I name it to *.zip and try to open it, it doesn't work.

I believe this file has long expired, due to the hosting site's regulations- but try downloading my Mothership Warfare mod from elsewhere on the site, which is the same concept taken to its logical extreme.
