View Full Version : Ravener's acid splatter too effective against orks?

Been noticing a lot of rav players getting this as their first upgrade against orks. Does anyone else think it deals way too much damage against da boyz? I usually have to retreat my squads once he has the upgrade and heads my way. My party plays orks so the fact that the ravener can tunnel and devastate the next ork mob makes it easy for them to gain early map control. Deff Dreads are usually a no-go because there always seems to be an SM player on their team that can easily counter it. Any tips or advice?

I think this could be a valid point.

The flip side of this argument is that other heroes have big AoE damage effects too. The FC, warboss, and warlock all come to mind. These guys are best fought at a distance, as almost any melee army will lose more than it is worth to take down these heroes.

Thing is, those heroes are all the front line fighter types for their races, and their tyranid counterpart is the Hive Tyrant, not the Ravener Alpha. Other support-style heroes may have AoE attacks, but they aren't leading a tyranid army. It's one thing for an opponent to gear up a ranged army to fight space marines or orks, because they don't come leaping over walls (or in this case, optionally from a handy tunnel) to tear you apart. Perhaps, given tyranids' other strengths, this is overpowered.

Worth looking at.

seens its special ability take out an avatar in 5 seconds... he had venom spam... but 5 seconds!, the whole nid race needs to be insta deleted... will fix everyones problem and flush out the posers...

I don't understand how a ranged, support based hero can then engage a melee centric race and proceed to kick their asses. The tech marine can't do it, the mekboy can only just do it by abusing mines. As if tunnels were not powerful enough, the hero himself has as much HP as a melee hero and a powerful ranged and melee attack.


The FC, warboss, and warlock all come to mind Funny that their tank/AOE heroes and that none of them have a skill as powerful as tunnels?

Also, Ravener has as much HP as the FC. And his Devourer upgrade gives him one of the highest ranged damage outputs heroes can have in this game (it's plasma damage type, also, which further makes it just better against most targets except heroes).

Fun for the whole family!

*Not saying he has all of those things at once, but why does the fastest hero with HP equivalent to front-line melee commanders, teleport (that can bring along friendly units), also has basically some of the highest damaging weapon upgrades in the game? It's not like the Tyranid army is particularly weak and it's not like Tyranid heroes end up leveling faster than other heroes anyway...

This hero can pretty much do everything well.

I definitely have a problem with RAs with Acid Splatter. High damage melee AoE that takes down a squad of Sluggas like their nothing. My current counter is avoid melee with him at all costs and try to suppress him with Shootas. I send my Sluggas into melee with every single other commander, including the melee-oriented ones, but as soon as I see that splash, I'm hitting retreat on my Sluggas and trying my damnedest to keep away from him.

I don't mind that he has wargear that increases in melee effectiveness; I just think that Acid Splatter is currently too effective, especially against large squads, which most melee infantry are.

I approve of nerfing Acid Splatter and Toxic Miasma.

You seem to have had some bad experiences with the nids, this is the second thread I've seen you suggest the removal of nids from the game. Just learn to play and stop complaining, or at least add something constructive to the proceedings.

As for the acid claws, like a lot of the Raveners abilities, this is deadly. I can't kill that fast with the thunder hammer or call with the Warboss, and he dedicated melee. Just add that to the list of problems with the nids.
