I have the game ordered but after reading up on how imbalanced the game still is, Im starting to wonder if its too late for me to cancel it.
Its been 3 months and nids are still op and eldar are still weak with no fixes in sight. Im not trying to be insulting but whats taking so long.

Nids aren't unbeatable and Eldar aren't UP. And a patch is coming out next week.

The game is pretty well balanced at the lower levels of play, things only start getting out of hand at the higher levels when everyone is exploiting everything to its fullest.
Everything is pretty good, but some things you will have to work a little harder to beat.

if you play 3v3, you won't really notice the imbalance, unless you face 3 nids at the same time. yes, nids are too strong, but the people using them expect you to just roll over once you see what army they're using. which you can exploit. so basically, if you like dow style online, getting the game is not a bad idea.

Tyranids are significantly overpowered, but surprisingly few players actually abuse them. If someone uses Lictor Alpha or Hive Tyrant and doesn't madly cap everything with Rippers, they're relatively balanced. Eldar are pretty much perfect as far as external balance goes; they have no good or bad matchups and are basically spot-on as far as power level goes. Unfortunately, their internal balance isn't so great, with Banshees, Rangers and Brightlances Platforms all having dubious usefulness, but even they can be very effective in the right situation. If any race is underpowered, it's Orks, and only by a small amount.
Also, one of the main reasons there have been few balance changes is because Relic still don't know exactly what needs doing. If you played the beta, at the start everyone thought that Tacticals were completely useless and should never be built. Now they're considered one of the strongest units in the game. They were given a small health boost, I admit, but it's not enough to have had a large impact - it was just that people had a kneejerk reaction and immediately decided that Tacticals sucked. It is about time for a balance patch, since we have now figured out how the balance is working, and the new patch coming soon is said to have balance fixes. Works for me.

Waaaa imba, I swear that is the first thing people shout when they cannot overcome an obstacle or opponent. The game is very well balanced. Only problem, nids are a bit tougher. No worries there. I've killed plenty of nids. Eldar require you to be smarter which is why they appear to be weaker. Get the game, don't rely on someones opinion and if you don't like it hey. Patch out in a week, or there is the receipt.

I have yet to play an RTS that isn't imbalanced when it first hit the market, it's hardly a reason not to buy said RTS. Yes, there are imbalances in DoW 2, and it will take time for them to be ironed out. The same could still be said concerning some RTSs which are 10+ years old, and still tend to have balance/bug repairs in released patches.
Also, the single player in DoW2 is pretty good, and the ability to play the campaign coop only adds to this.

At higher levels, I'd be more worried about mekboy mine abusers than anything. I see even more mekboy mine abusers than I do RAs it seems.

If you are not into the singleplayer part, then wait until the next patch is released.
See if that balances some of the huge issues at hand. No RTS is balanced on release, but Nids are more than broken, and yes players do abuse it, or maybe I am just unlucky.
Wait until next patch, see if it gets better, if not wait some more, or invest your money in some other game.
Of course if you like the singleplayer part go right a head.

First off thanks for the replys. I did play beta, got to TS of 26 or so which I belive was pretty high at the time. I played Eldar and Nids.
I stopped playing nids cause they were so OP it got boring. At the end of beta I was playing the Eldar. There was such a glaring difference in power I thought it would be fixed quickly. At that time banshees would lose to tac squads even if they got to melee. Tacs had a ton of HP at the end of beta.
I thought a month or two they would have fixed elder and brought the nids back in line so I can play them with out being labeled an abuser. Maybe that is expecting too much. I could go sm I guess.
Oh well this is my first time posting and I dont want to be too negative... yet ;) So....Hello everybody.
PS: buguba, I heard from a dev that they are working on the mekboy mine.

From what I know, they already tried to change the arming time of mines. It just didn't work. :P

Unfortunately, there is nothing for them to fix with Eldar. They're balanced. Maybe you were just playing them wrong. Tacticals still have 350 health each, and Banshees will kill them if you get into melee, I've done it multiple times before. Eldar are not in any way underpowered.

I would wait for the patch, wait for the peoples reactions and buy the game accordingly. If you only buy the game for singleplayer go ahead, but wait for the multiplayer.

Thank heavens.

Eldar as a race aren't UP, but some of their units can be. Some of their units are so situational (Banshees and Rangers) that they're not worth it unless you have several parameters set-up for their survival. Banshees can't even make it into combat without several outside buffs before-hand (fortune or the like), and Rangers are hard to integrate into builds because of their cost.

It's a good game, it's just hard to judge any RTS game very well because the professional reviews usually aren't accurate; the player reviews aren't much better because the RTS niche group is pretty much the king of complainers among the already complaining-prone gamer group. You just have to try it for yourself, or wait for another Steam sale so you only pay like $30 for it. It's a good buy and Relic adds more content/fixes every patch.

Its been 3 months and nids are still op and eldar are still weak with no fixes in sight. Im not trying to be insulting but whats taking so long. Hard to make conclusions yourself without owning the game, especially when peoples opinions on Eldar being UP are extremely differing. I know some of the balance team USED to believe Eldar were borderline OP, Weather thats changed or not I don't know.
Tyranids are OP, but a lot of us hope thats going to fix itself.
Otherwise, DOW2 is a damn fine game. The best RTS out there at the moment (since TOV screwed up COH).
it would depend on how much current balance issues impinge on your sense of fun. I really dislike Tyrannids breaking games both 1v1 and teams yet DoW II is a fast, fluid rts game with plenty of thought and micro for those inclined. I get frustrated too with certain games, but overall the level of enjoyment and imminent balance changes are quite enough for me to continue with DoW II.

I kinda gave up on DoW2 a couple months back due to the terrible balance. Are eldar really still UP (i.e. very little changed since release, mass guardians etc.) and nids OP?
