View Full Version : Using Cover

Any tips on using cover? I cannot seem to get my guys into positions behind cover reliably. I'll get the dots lined up and click and one of them always ends up going on the wrong side of the cover even if the dots were ALL behind the cover.

I don't remember the cover pathing being so bad for COH!

It seems very fiddly...

Any tips?

Click and drag in the direction that you want your guys to face, they should all be placed into the nearest 'cover' spots automatically. I find this more effective than just looking for the most green dots in the best positions then clicking.

Thanks for the tip. I thought I was doing that, but maybe I'm clicking too close to the terrain or something.

Unfortunately sometimes the pathing does fail and one of your guys ends up the wrong side of the cover, however I think (someone correct me otherwise) that they still receive the cover bonuses.

The cover seeking in this game just seems to be inferior to CoH, both in terms of manual and auto cover seeking. It's just something you have to get to grips with unfortunately.

Yeah it's not so much the auto cover seeking... I kind of like the fact that it's manual. You do have to micro, but I think that's fine...afterall if you were playing 40k on a table you'd be doing the same... In many ways this game feels more tabletop like than the previous game.

I don't know if this is just my assessment of occurences or not, but it would appear that levelling up improves how the ai decides to use cover. same with using stealth on scouts. if you cloak them, they appear more adept at finding cover. could have just been the beer clouding my judgement though.

I'm pretty sure that cover is directional. So, units that do go on the wrong side of the rock won't receive much cover.

General II is in fact, right. Cover is directional.

I sometimes get the same wonky AI behavious as culturek. You just have to deal with it. Or fall back. :p

There are indicators that show if your guys are in cover or not. If you've clicked and dragged correctly, the cover that you're moving to will flash to indicate that units will recieve cover from that object.

cover is done by a model-by-model basis. so if i have 2 scouts behind green cover and 1 in front (despite the whole unit showing green cover markers), versus your 3 behind yellow cover, chances are i'll lose 1 man before you. sigh. then i have to x out.

Aaaaaand yet another bug that should have been fixed before the beta was even released. Surprise, surprise, surprise.
Hence why I am not buying this game, relic is going to have to work harder for my money.
