hi everyone.....after leveling my farseer and mekboy to level 20 its time for me to level up my captain....i have gotten to the level where i HAD TO CHOOSE between an orbital laser and a dreadnought.....and so i pick the dread...to keep me company...
BAD move....not only do i find the dreadnought just walk here and there following me around without attacking sometime....the most frustrating thing is during wave 16 and above he is quite useless that i dont bring him around anymore....
i notice he never leaves your side and when you die he just lingers there without helping my surviving teammates...
Anyone now regreting that they choose the dread now?? =P

What are you talking about with the Farseer and Mek? Roks replaces boss pole or trophy rack as well as Eldrich replacing mass confuse or vigor stones. I will agree with you that the Dread AI is rather garbage however its a damn fair trade off. Dread or Orbital. Both are very good and depending upon play strategy useful. Having both would be seriously broken

I for one agree with Weyseer on this.
My opinion: The Dreadnought AI needs some improvement. I sometimes find (when i am a Plasma Gun jump pack dreadnought marine) that when i am about to die and i jump away from the combat, instead of my dread continuing the battle (because he isn't damaged at all, i took the beating) he follows me to the location i jumped too, thus bringing other enemies to my location and dakka me to death. This is not the only problem though (i don't have the brainpower to list them all).
However i do not agree on the Seer and Mek getting everything and my reasons are the same as Shadow.

oh sorry.....my mistake about that...the part with the mek and the farseer is not part of this thread...wrong post....XD
this thread is about the AI of the dread....sorry for the confusion...i will edit it XD
btw....the dread AI really needs some rework...i want it to kill everything it sees thats all...not walking around....XD
Improve dread AI, decrease its health and damage
Give me control of the dread, decrease its health and damage
Past wave 16 its completely unreliable.
Pre-wave 16 its good because enemies really can't damage it.

The dred sux with high mobility builds (eg.: jumppack, or reactive armour runnin around).
It tries to follow you and ends up doing nothing.
The best way to use the dred is with a cc captain that has zeal purity seal (the shit that gives health to nearby allies.)
Using the plasma cannon, it can also help keep badies away.
Watch a Dread fed by a Mek with energy to constantly use Emperor's Fist dominate any swarm then come back saying he's 'not very useful'. ;)

Watch a Dread fed by a Mek with energy to constantly use Emperor's Fist dominate any swarm then come back saying he's 'not very useful'.
you are forgetting one thing...the dreadnought sometime use Emperor's fist at the wrong time...often using it on a single unit then leaving him vulnerable to the swarms...when the gates are still opening...what you are saying is as if he uses Emperors fist very single time till its dry.....
i know we cant control this thing other than to have it follow you around where ever you go....the worst part is sometime if you had a farseer with group teleport your dread goes with her...leaving you alone for the beating...XD
but all the same some people think the dread is a better choice than the orbital because:-
1)he is a 4th member in your last stand
2)he is a good distractor unit
3)some unforseen force he saved your ass(this is RARE)
4)he can heal
5)he is a good pet to have and is so cute!!
6)his drop pod can actually kill something
7)anymore??????
btw*you gave energy to a unit you cant control??lol...you must be cruel to your team mates for giving it to the dread instead of your mates......XD

I could actually pull off what I stated. He did 4 Emperor's Fist in a row, till he killed everything. When he's surrounded and has enough energy, he will use Emperor's Fist. Him using it at the wronge time is not a big deal if you can continously supply him with energy.
And with Speshul Toolz, Ave a taste or Choppa Mek, you can make sure he's never out of energy.
Yeah I know it's a small thing about the Dread, but can be very useful. And maybe everyone knows this, but you can use any ability on it. Try Fortune or Bouncy Shield for the lulz.
Also, for some odd reason, the Drop Pod knocks you back, even if you're immune.

i am the captain...i only can heal him...not supply him energy....plus i dont have a mekboy on my team all the time..more seers, captains

apparently your teammates and I are smart enough to use abilities on the dread.....
i cant say other people are wise and ask random people to put on gear for the sole purpose to support my dread (when was the last time you go hey..can you put Ward on your farseer so that you can make my dread invincible for a moment or hey mekboy get bouncy shiled for my dread k)
as for me...i use my abilities to the max using my level 20 farseer and level 20 mekboy...i support other peoples dreads(captains) with abilities all the time..(dread plus boucy shield=a funny episode of bowling)...
but when i am the captain...other players gotten stupid over night...XD

That 'you' didn't mean you exactly. Not you as a captain, but any one of us as a player. ^^
What you described is more about bad teamwork and the unwillingness to cooperate, rather than the Dread being bad. :)
We are smart, so that's cool, though. ;)
I do admit that the Dread starts to fail from wave 17 and on... there's just too much firepower.

Like Lol...................bad teams does not equal to dreads being useless......what i am saying is that the AI of the dread needs some rework done(particularly i want it to stop following me like a baby duck and help my teammates)
...bad team mates are one thing...having a forth unit walking around without attacking is sometimes is just annoying.....
btw...there should be a poll for this thread to ask captain players whether the dreadnought is performing the way it should be......any captain players here???
I never said he isn't dumb. Never did I say that bad teamwork equals useless dreads (it does in a way, but that's just nitpicking). :D
He is a little bit slow to think, yeah. I fairly like his protective nature, though.
On another note, I did play the Cap'n quite often. Got to level 20 with him first. And my team and me reached wave 19 the first time with him. Also, we got a fairly high score of more than 5 million. With this experience, I'd say some changes like giving players an option to force him into melee with a targeted squad wouldn't go amiss. Or give him Taunt. That'd be sweet and borderline overpowered. :)
Nowadays I play the Mek exclusively and only rarely (I got a bit bored with the support Farseer builds), but if anyone would like a game, send me a PM.
Cheers

I think the player should just be able to control it, nothing else would need to be changed then.

by doing so would make it OP.....which is a no no to me...i wanted to control it at first...but i rather have a better AI(randomness) to pilot the dread...=)
that way you dont have the daunting task to control 2 units...which is insane in last stand...if you wanted to control the dread you risk negleting your hero......so i wanted the dread to be on Autopilot(and he must be a good pilot because he is half dead, slept for thousands of years, made of metal, and swore to never retire in his service...XD )
