sweet game.

USA made a great attempt to come back in the 3rd, but it just wasn't enough... i love games that are close and then one team puts it away without question at the end.

'specially when that team is canada. :)

Yeah, we got our asses kicked in the 1st.
Brodeur should never have let that first goal in.
But we won, so who cares? :)

I love how Canada 'eliminated' the US's home ice advantage by buring a Loonie (Canadian one dollar coin) at center ice. That's what you get for hiring a Canadian Ice Maker who could bury a loonie at center ice and get away with it. Apparently Gretzky unearthed it after the game and will have it presented to the hockey hall of fame.

GG Canada, GG USA.

I'm hardly an authority on sport, but doesn't ice hockey seem kinda...messy? Y'know, disorganised.

I'm sure its not, but it looks like it...

Definately not disorganized... but then all Canadians are bred with the 'puck-following' gene that allows us to easily track the puck and follow the play when watching the game on TV. Some foreign born Canadians develop abilities similar to our genetic ability... but they are few and far between.

It's an aggressive, invented sport. Salt Lake hasn't been too bad, but equip thick, big bastards with armour and a big stick, give them permission to use them pretty much any way they like, and guess what the outcome will be.

Comparatively, the Olympic hockey was violence-lite by NHL standards, and yet hockey's still better off than baseball(very dull sport) in that bench-clearing brawls are not prevented by "third man" rules.
The aforementioned "big, thick bastards" are relatively few, and are typically defensemen, as teams tend to do better when they score more than the opposing team than hit more. Not that physical dominance doesn't help carry the puck to the right end of the rink.

YA! We won!
Hockey's not disorganized otherwise the score woudn't have been low

Olympic Hockey si teh winnar. NHL is just a brute-fest :/ . The juniors are even worse.

Checking is part of the game, but some people seem to think it's violent - far from it. In fact, players take precautions NOT to actually hurt each other. If you know how easy it is to very seriously hurt someone with checking in hockey you would be surprised that it doesn't happen very often.

The only thing I'm conserned about is the uber-patriotic Canadians going on in an orgy of flag-waving in down-town Vancouver. For those of you who live in the lower mainland of British Columbia (I've noticed that quite a few boardies do), you would be well aware of the Vancouver Police's "Stay the hell off the streets unless your a pedestrian or homeless" policy.
For those of you who don't know, I am talking about a police department that wanted to over-ride human rights, in order to herd people on the streets haistly to work, their home, or out of Vancouver. This is a police department that got so very scared after a patetic roit that took place due to the Canucks doing a bad job in hockey (suprise, suprise), and are now scared of any future roits with wreckless abandon.
I'm just hoping things don't get too out of hand when it concerns the Vancouver Police and Patriotic Canadians.

About time someone posted this thread I came on here last night about 3 hours after the game and not a peep about it.
Not only did we win but it was a a$$ whooping.
Let's not forget the womens team I think they worked even harder to get thier gold then the mens team and the ref from that game Stacy Livingstone she deserves a good kick in the butt to help move her brains back to her head.

2 gold medals and the war of 1812... that would make it 3-0. Better hope you don't lose the softwood lumber dispute :)

All ribbing aside it was a most exhilirating game to watch. My buddy was having the emotional equivalent of a grande mal seizure by mid way through the 2nd period.

hockey teh win

Pity that the Battle of New Orleans wasn't considered overtime. :[

At least it was refreshing for the unabashedly biased media coverage down here to show the fans of some other country trapise about with flags and cries of their country's name aloft. Too much waving the tattered flag by the knuckleheads that are my countrymen.

They're playing a track of the fans starting into our national anthem near the end of the game up here on the radio occasionally. It sends shivers down my spine when I hear that.
