--Description--

DoW2 Apocalypse: Armies of Doom is a new game mod which expands the game experience in both PvP and Campaign mode. The game focuses more on abilities and weapons now but the entire layout is different too. New squads have been created and the idea is to include new maps, H8's badges and colour schemes Chapter mod (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=234794) and Fuggle's win conditions Fuggle's VCs (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=236550). The main idea for Campaign mode was to put Cyru's squad backstage a bit to make up room for the rest of the squads, which have now more specific abilities and real in-game power. However, special importance have been paid to strategies, so even when it is the case squads have now more fire and melee power, their added strength could become a drawback. You'll learn very soon how important it is to use your squads in the right way to be able to succeed in-game. There is more on display now, so special attention will be required to micro-manage your game.

About PvP mode it is important to note that all pop caps have been increased for all races but that of the space marines, which only adds up to 115 against the other's 200. This feature has been included as a way to balance the now high tech powered space marine squads against uncounted hordes of unedited ones.

--Brief note on this mod--

As this mod is still in the making, I'd kindly appreciate any comments on likely bugs and balance issues. At this stage I haven't included much wargear, nor maps, but I hope I'll be able to include some more any time soon now: just keep an eye on the update.

--Known bugs--

-Cyrus squad will show and display the included abilities upon completion of tech weapon research, but only as long as Cyrus has the ability as well. This leaves the squad with either two sniper rifle power shot or two promethium bomb units depending on Cyrus' allocated weapon.

-The FC Squad units will show and display the FC wargear on the backdrop menu but not ingame (it wasn't supposed to display that feature ingame anyway).

Right click on your default DoW2 icon and select "send to desktop/create icon". Once the icon has been created, right click in it, select "properties" and paste this "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2\DOW2.exe" -dev -modname "DoW2_Apocalypse_Armies_of_Doom" (with commas) where it says "target" and save. Now cut both the module file and the mod folder and paste in your DoW2 main directory. To install the map pack, cut the Gameassets folder and paste into you DoW2 directory. Windows will ask you if you want to overwrite all subfolders, but apart from the DoW2 UCS file you won't. Hangar8 is only adding strings in this file, but if it worries you, back it up somewhere before you do this. Just click yes. Double click in your generated icon and enjoy.

Did you install DOW2 in "C"? If not, right click on the icon, select properties and then change to your default path directory. It's got to work if you follow my instructions: I've tested it many times.

yes it's in c drive but the shortcut is not exacutable

As this mod is still in its early stages, I haven't packed it yet; nor I have included instruction on how to display H8's strings on badges and colour schemes yet (they will read $no range), but at list it is possible to get an idea on what this mod is going to be/look like. My next step is to unlock all the pre-order wargear and, possibly, create more of my own (the bonus package is, indeed, very tempting). On another note, I am very pleased with PvP as it is now (I don't see many more changes coming), but I'd like to be given some feedback on how easy or difficult it is to beat the AI up when you're with the SMs. I'd like to know what you guys think.

Hi!

I seem unable to get the Mod working. I have setup everthing like mentioned in the forum.

Only difference is, that as I'm from germany, I had to edit the path to my DoW folder.

When I start the Campaign everything is normal. No additional squad members, no weapins, etc.

Is there a logfile or a tracefile I could read to see what the problem is?

Yes I know, the mod needs updating. I know you guys are now more interested in playing CR, so I haven't done much for the mod of late. I know how to get it back to work, but only if you guys want me to. I am planning on a more inclusive mod next (for CR) so let me know what you guys think. I've inlcuded some wargear, as promised, but I need to put a few things right before uploading it again.

Alright then. I am going to be working on this mod tonight. Like I am saying, I know how to get it back to work (it just need updating), so hopefully enough, I shall be able to post the update at some point today during the night. I am going to try to make it compatible with CR, but this I cannot promise. The update comes with all the pre-order wargear, but you will have to restart your Campaign if you want to get it. About the map pack being corrupted, this has probably to do with FileFront, but thanks for the feedback anyway.

Sorry about the delay guys. See first post for the update. The mod is now compatible with CR but I still need to work on the new campaign. Chaos' pop cap has been increased to 200 to balance them out against the other races. I still need to update the wargear and H8's badges, but all the squad sizes remain the same. And please do not be ashamed to give me feedback.

Edit:

I'm just realizing now I have made a mistake with the Gameassests folder. As you unpack, just double click on it and rename "New_Folder" to "Archives". It is only a typho, but if you don't edit, you won't be able to upload the mod. I will upload the right version tomorrow. One of my mates is playing a videogame now and he says I'm slowing the conexion down.

mod have bugs. All troops are still Blood ravens and when levelup they have no perks.

I know, but, like I'm saying, I still need to work on a few things. They show up as Blood Ravens due to the fact I had to delete the old Config folder to be able to get it back to work again. About those perks, all I need to do is to edit the "tuning" folder, but again, it is only me making this mod, so I'm gonna have to do one thing at the time. Let us not forget the mod wasn't working in the first place because of the Vanilla update, so everything will come when the time is due: the mod is still in the making. My next step will be:

1. Edit the XP1 folders for the new campaign.
2. Update all weapons for the new campaign (they only show in the old one)
3. Edit the Config folder
4. Edit the defaulchapter colours file to bring the BC into the campaign
5. Edit armypainter lua
6. Add H8's new strings in the USC document
7. Sort the old bugs out

I am sure I'm gonna find other things which might require updating as I am working on the mod, but hopefully enough it'll all be done before Easter. Sorry about the inconvenience guys.

Yes, I am familiar with this problem. This is only happening to you as you need to use the "-dev" command to be able to upload this mod. The fact you're German has nothing to do with it (all mods do work the same). Just follow the new instructions given and you'll be able to run it.

PS. We're still on Vanilla, but you still need a new copy of CR if you want to play the new campaign.

Hey, I have been trying to change the short cut target as you said, but whenever I change it to
"C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2\DOW2.exe" -dev -modname "DoW2_Apocalypse_Armies_of_Doom"

It says that file path does not exist, I'm using windows vista so does that affect anything?

From reading the threads it still sounds like there is some work to be re-done before I could play this in the orginal DOW2 and then carry it forward to CR?

If that is true I will keep my eye on this mod, this sounds like a blast to play once you get some of your latest updates in there:

I followed the instructions, but to run the game out as usual, do not leave the Black Corsairs, could do no wrong. I have installed the Chaos Rising. this may affect?
I tried on a pc that has no chaos rising, just does not work.

Right, I'm not entirely sure but I'm sure you'll let me know if you've tried this.

I noticed that you're running the mod through the dow2.exe with -dev, if you've got Chaos Rising create the shortcut through steam.

Make it look kind of like this.

"C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe" -applaunch 20570 -dev -modname DoW2_Apocalypse_Armies_of_Doom

This is the template to get most mods working with Chaos Rising. If the mod in question is not compatible with the latest patch of the game, it just\might not work, so you've been informed.

if your using vista or windows 7 64 bit then the directory is slightly different

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe" -applaunch 20570 -dev -modname "DoW2_Apocalypse_Armies_of_Doom" -nomovies

(keep all the commas, just copy 'n' paste)

i am having the same issues, i can't get the mod to run, and i've entered everything as is posted here, but whenever i try to run it, it just loads regular DOW2

Oh Gosh, what am I gonna say? I just feel so guilty. I´ve been away (making money) for a while and this mod needs updating. I could explain what the problem is, but I am busy right now. Maybe this could be a good opportunity for you guys to finish it off. I honestly have too much on my plate right now, but if you guys are interested in it, I´ll probably tell you how to go about it in this sense. Sorry for the inconvenience.

So, I am busy seeing to my other mods (I mean the new ones). If you want to update this mod you'll have to go through all the new folders and do it manually. I cannot promise, but maybe I'm gonna expend some time over the weekend trying to find out. What I was planning on doing though was finishing my new Gods of War mod for PvP and then start modding for campaign mode. I kind of want to have a fresh and good start for the new stuff to come, so I was hoping to build up upon it as I progress. However, like I am saying, I'll see what I can do over the weekend.

Sounds great. Wouldn't want the new stuff to go unfinished it looks great. Anyone who can mod and change the playability of any DOW game are my heroes. I can't get enough DOW2 these days. I mainly play the CPU games and read the novels. Is that weird from a 40 year old? Anyway!!

EDIT: I re-downloaded and took a look at the module I had a few things jumbled. The mod works and looks great! Sorry for the time waster. :rofl: Now i'm :Loco: for Apocalypse.

I knew it was working, but some things won't work as expected. When someone asked me in this thread to revisit my work after CR_DoW2 was released, I did a few things for the mod to get it working again. but I know it needs some dusting. Oh BTW, just to say you ain't waisting my time mate. This is what we modders belong with the community for. We love doing these things.

Could sombody please help me out? ive only started with mods today with no experience in using them, i really want this one lol, but it wont work for me, im not sure if ive done anything wrong, but heres what ive done:

i downloaded an extracted the files the a new folder on my desktop
i then copied "DoW2_Apocalypse_Armies_of_Doom" file and "DoW2_Apocalypse_Armies_of_Doom.module" to "C:/Program files/Steam/SteamApps/common/Dawn of war 2"

i made a shortcut on the desktop for DoW2 and edited the properties to run ""C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2\DOW2.exe" -dev -modname "DoW2_Apocalypse_Armies_of_Doom""

then i copied "GameAssets" folder into "C:/Program files/Steam/SteamApps/common/Dawn of war 2" it said "There is already a folder called GameAssets, would you like to replace" i clicked yes, it then said "There is already a folder called "Archives" would you like to replace, i pressed yes again, then everything was fine as far as i was aware, i ran the game, but nothing?

anybody able to help in any way?

This mod is outdated and I lack the inspiration to revisit it. It needs updating. Why don't you try my Chaos Gods of War mod?

Hey Smeckma. Man what a bummer your not going to work on this mod anymore. I pretty much only play Campaign or skirmish against cpu. I don't have the time to play PVP as I am a stay at home Dad with a 1 yr old and 5 yr old in Kindergarten.

Thanks for what you did do it was a great mod. Hopefully in the future you will change your mind. If not keep creating great mods there are a lot of people who respect and envy what you can do with a decent game, making it a great one with tons more playability than vanilla.

Oh thanks about that. The problem with me and modding is the fact I can only do it when the Muse pays me a visit. If I lack the inspiration I simply cannot do it, and if I have it, I am most likely to come up with a brand new mod instead. And again, you guys can do with this mod whatever it might take your fancy insofar you are going to credit me in the readme document. This is a nice community and we all know about the rules.
