View Full Version : Battle Fleet Gothic using HW2 engine?

I know that this has been mentioned before, but I couldn't help myself seeing (again) the potential.

I would use HW2 AND Tel'quessir's excellent mod (that lets big ships actually use their AA guns and missiles to attack fighters)

and create battlefleet gothic. :new:

I feel certain that it would generate a substantial amount in sales, for two reasons...

1. It would be the further use of a known engine that the devs themselves have created.

2. It would create a fantastic synergy of two known franchises to maximise profitability (can't tell you where I copied that from :D )

Some might feel that Battlefleet Gothic didn't sell all that well to achieve a status that people would pay a dev money to devellop, but either as a solo game or an expansion to DoW, it would rock...

Imagine, a stellar crusade, where you would need not only to fight in ground, but also on stars... (mouth waters...). Do you feel it is worth it?

It is entirely possible for gamesworkshop to work out a deal which could see battle fleet gothic released as a new game... but it would have to be a completely different game to homeworld otherwise they would lose a lot of rep from the fans and customers over bad reviews from critics, talking about things such as hm2 clone set for release. etc..

Anyway I didn't really want to waffle on. I would like to see this game made, it's just not likely... unless you get a couple of million people to sign a pettion requesting that it be done :P

Just for the record... "expansions", almost by definition, are an addition to the existing gameplay.

So hypothetically speaking, a HW2 based BFG game would not and could not be an "expansion" to an IC based RTS. It just doesn't work like that.

Sorry to interrupt, go on with the wishes...

The only way I could see a BF:G game to be an expansion of DOW is if it was only a small part of it,like maybe an odd mission or two you command some warships instead of guys.

A BF:G game would be just that,a game, not some crummy expansion.

FYI, doing a space combat 'section' of a ground combat game would require us to create 2 completely different games (double the time, resources, budget, and add some extra time for management of such a behemoth project), and then somehow marry them together. I'm not saying it is impossible, but its probably not wise.

Even if you only did the space part for a couple of missions that doesn't really cut down the investment, because you've still got to create a good space combat game on top of a good ground combat game.

i said that in a thread before...? cant remember which one :S:yas: ( i am) :P

there r loads of different possibilities for WH40k games...

this RTS.. a BETTER FPS:cranky: :flamer:

a BFG RTS

a BFG MMOG...would fit perfectly...being a trader, an imperial navy commander etc etc etc like Eve online, but without all the skills that bog the game down.

a MMOG FPS ( Like PlanetSide) but with more variety...not sure about teams/races/whatever u call them tho....

would be great taking command of a predetor or something and having tank battles etc and all the rest.......

Seems to me you are right! I can't argue your arguments here.

Besides, all I ever wanted was to get a BFG game based on HW2 we all know and love. What can I say. DoW and expansions thereof, have spoiled us already!

So, I sincerely hope that a BFG game will be made based on an enhanced HW2 game engine...

Imagine ...

So I would hope, anyway!

hello all: voice of reason

i dont understand why a two part genre game can be finally created, all these games that have been put out are good and nice but simple are either to easy or dont expand on there genre. i mean why not create a two part game system, where u can actually do both types of fighting , ground and space. investment lol u guys speak as if u didnt make a killing from hw & hw2 so by far u would and should get back your money doudle times over. come on a game that has hw2 engine and space fighting capacity as well as a sort of command&conquer generals type genre to be able to fight n take over citys and entire planets. These games that are today are two weak n only last about 1 month. thats why u see so many mods as soon as the game comes out. relic makes good games but they need to expand. expand into the future of gaming. if u want big u have to make it big. Plus we all know that the investment would be well worth it . just picture this, what if hw2 has a planet like scenario in it. where u can build defenses on planets, do more research or basically take over a moon and develop a base of operation. I suggest if your going to do a space game then you must include planets and moons and asteriods that can be taken over and developed into some form of base or mining facility. without Planets and moons space travel will be nothing.

I hope he is now in relic hands, and even if I have to pay for BFG, I will gladly do so.

I mean think about it. Warhammer 40K in space.

Some of you might think that it is just a rehashed HW2, but I bet a lot of ADEPTUS ASTARTES fans like me will disagree!

DarthFelth
3rd Mar 04, 6:43 PM
well i think if anyone has played any of the good mods for hw they will know its alot more than just a few new models, i really hope that the hw2 takes off, cos i got some orks to beat down with my battle barges :missile:

However the only thing i think it wouls lack is things like teleport attacks, boarding parties (gothic style anyways) things like boarding torpedoes :bunny:

As I recall the reason that the original HW BFG mod was abandoned was because the AI wasn't good enough to handle the way the Warhammer 40K ships attack (They couldn't handle the whole broadside attack thing for a start).
