View Full Version : Eden of the West OOC

“The abuse of greatness is when it disjoins remorse from power.”

This is a boardwar of governmental conspiracy, societal change and player vs player intrigue, based on the anime Eden of the East. Knowledge of the anime is by no means necessary- indeed, I doubt anyone will have seen it, and that may make things even more interesting.

In 2011 in the USA, 12 people are chosen to become messiahs and save the country. They are called the Selected, and they have been granted special mobile phones with one hundred million dollars and a direct link to their concierge, Judge. Judge can fulfil almost any request by utilising the credit placed on the phones to manipulate the government, the mass media, the police, the army, and any other institution that could help or harm the Selected. While she is not omnipotent, the deployment of nuclear weapons or the passing of any law through Congress is within her power, among many other things.

However, the Selected have not simply been blessed by great power. By accepting the phones, they have been locked into a deadly game. Every request takes money and when a phone's credit reaches zero, that Selected will be eliminated. Further, inactivity or selfish indulgence of personal desires to excess will not be tolerated. One of the twelve Selected themselves is the Supporter, tasked with enforcing the rules of the game and taking care of any who transgress. Only those who sincerely work towards saving the country on their own terms has a hope of winning. Victory comes when the goal of saving the country has been achieved. The winner, alone, will survive the game, and the other Selected will be eliminated. Each Selected is encouraged to work towards the objective of saving the country on their own terms. Whether that means improving the lives of the many or killing hundreds of thousands is left to the discretion of the individual Selected. Judge and the Supporter do not judge the means a messiah takes or the ends he sees as the way to achieve national salvation.

Further, the Selected must regard each other as rivals. Every request to Judge is just that- requests will be refused if they are impossible or against the rules of the game, letter or spirit. The Selected cannot directly request each other's location or assassination, though this does not rule out indirect methods such as locating someone the Selected is known to be with, or bombing a location they are known to be at. Further, every single Selected phone logs and keeps a record of the requests all the Selected make to Judge, as well as indicating when new requests are logged. This allows attentive Selected to keep track of each other's movements and actions, as well as countering their requests with requests of their own. Ultimately, the game is not a battle. Conflict between Selected is permitted but must not fatally undermine the more important mission of saving the country.

Noblesse oblige. We sincerely hope you all will become worthy messiahs.

Game-play Notes
This game will be a little different from an ordinary boardwar. The physical prowess of your characters is dwarfed by the power of Judge at their command, and your characters use of their wits, intelligence and initiative is a surer path to victory than violence. Of course, if a Selected requests an assault rifle, a tank, or a combat helicopter, Judge will grant them their request. But it is much easier to dictate the ends you seek and let Judge determine the means.

This boardwar is for a maximum of twelve players, though I expect less than that. Up to eleven players will control ordinary Selected, tasked with saving the country by their own methods. One player, chosen secretly by me, will receive a PM telling them that they are the Supporter, tasked with enforcing the rules of the game. It is worth bearing in mind that the Supporter could be any one of the Selected. The Selected have been chosen from across the USA and it is statistically insanely unlikely, although possible, that any two know each other before the game begins. Characters have numbers, which will be the usual way the Selected refer to each other.

I will control Judge and run the game. Every single request goes through me by players posting in-character, followed by my in-character reply as Juiz. Every single request is logged and is visible to the other players. I will also provide updates on the state of the country and the changes brought about by the actions of the Selected. I will also use time-skips where I judge appropriate, to let long-term requests bear fruit. Warning will be given before this occurs. I will control 'spare' Selected who are not PCs, as I see fit.

As this boardwar is a little different, so are your characters. They may be young or old, of any race or sex. What unites them is a certain brilliance that has been acknowledged through their selection as messiahs, and more importantly, strong vision and ideals for how America should be changed. Your characters have entered this game knowing they are risking their lives. I ask that you consider just what drives them and what they hope to achieve. Why does the USA need to be saved? How will it be saved? There is no one right answer to these questions. But every Selected has been chosen for their belief that the country needs saving in some form.

If you're interested in being the Supporter, PM me. The Supporter has a slightly different role, in that they cannot 'win', but he or she nonetheless has an objective to work towards.

As noted above, 'good guys' and 'bad guys' alike can win the game. I as Judge am merely here to execute your visions of saving the country.

Backstory:
Likes: (politically and socially speaking eg democracy, authoritarianism, equality)
Dislikes: (politically and socially speaking eg free market capitalism, the unemployed, the two party system)
Notes:

Example Character
I will create a Selected for the purposes of illustration, and may play him among the other NPC Selected in the game itself.

Name: Aiden Hart
Number: 3
Age: 19
Sex: Male
Personality: Calculating and cruel, Aiden is ruthless but effective in whatever he tries to do. His charisma and great self-confidence naturally attracts the praise of others, and he is accustomed to being adored. He has faith in his own great intelligence and consistently looks to the bigger picture. However, he chafes at the limits placed on him by society, and resents what he sees as the decadence and lack of rigour that surrounds him.
Backstory: Born in poverty, Aiden has struggled hard to find the money for a college education despite his academic brilliance. He is on bad terms with his parents, as his father abandoned his mother while he was young and he does not get on well with his stepfather. Aiden has experienced first-hand the degrading consequences of proverty, and has read extensively on the subject. He is a politically active leftist who boils over with frustration at a hostile and gigantic political system beyond his control, or at times, seemingly beyond the influence of anyone except the rich.
Likes: Communist economic organisation, direct democracy, the potential and influence of new electronic media.
Dislikes: Capitalism, corporations, the wealthy elite, the influence of money and big business, religion.
Notes: Aiden boxes to keep himself in good health, and his fitness is almost professional.

Name: Hope
Number: 4
Age: 15
Sex: Male
Personality: Shy, soft-spoken, strong willed, kind sometimes
Backstory: Hope Calvert comes from an elite family. Two Senators, and three representatives in the government are Calverts, as well as half of Maryland is owned by the Calverts. Hope despises the abuse of their power and aims to, at his own hands, end it. Hope has a super IQ of 180+, and relies on it very often. Hope's father is ignorant to his own son's plan, and does not care about the few mysterious charges on his credit card. Hope sees himself as the US's last chance to survive. He has personal contacts with many ex FBI, CIA, and KGB agents. Hope has strong beliefs for regarding regulated capitalism. Hope believes it will be the salvation of the US. But it all begins with the fall of his own family. Hope is determined to end the Calvert's rein of power personally. Hope believes that corporations now run the nation and believes it is time to take them down. He also thinks that as long as there is big business, there is coroption, it is his goal to erase it all.

Likes: Hope believes in a regulated capital society. Where the people are free and businesses compete, but do not achieve total dominance in the market. Hope likes a strong central gov elected and controlled by the ordinary person.
Dislikes: Communism, Total capitalism, dictatorships, and despises theocracies.
Notes: Due to extensive training with agents, Hope has enough training to hold his own. He loves to hack computers, and has broken into the Pentagon a number of times. If not for his family's influence, he would have been arrested.

An IQ of 500 is so transhumanist as to be meaningless. Such a person doesn't exist on this entire planet. I can't imagine anyone being able to convincingly roleplay someone that smart. I'm going to say the maximum IQ I'm willing to allow is 180 or so, which is very high.

12 is an extremely young age to be involved in the Selected Project, no matter how smart someone is. On top of that, a 12 year old wouldn't be physically developed enough to 'hold his own' against much of anything. I don't think I'm willing to compromise below 15 on age and 17-20 is really better. Being older works to your advantage as well, since it means you actually have the time and physical development to be able at martial arts and whatever else you want to do. Even geniuses only have so much time in the day. In any case, 15 would be a 'child genius' by the standards of the Project.

The KGB stuff doesn't make a whole lot of sense. He's no communist, indeed he hates communism. So why is he being trained by a KGB agent? Likewise being trained in 'samurai skills' is nonsensical. At least say kenjutsu, kendo or martial arts, something that can be boiled down to a recognisable real-life area.

Finally, I'm not entirely sure how his likes/dislikes relate to wanting to change America. The USA is not exactly under threat of becoming communist, a dictatorship, or a theocracy. I suppose you could play up the conflict between his desire for regulated capitalism with strong central government and the US's tendancy for free market capitalism on Healthcare and so on. I'd appreciate clarification here.

This is a wall of nitpicks, but the basic concept of 'child genius who believes in regulated markets' is sound. I definately want the IQ and age changed, and I'd like to note that personal combat skills, personal hacking ability, and so on, is pretty irrelevant to this BW. He can ask Judge to do anything he could possibly achieve using those skills, and she'd get it done cleaner and better. I'd rather your backstory focus on why he believes what he believes.

I'll reserve a spot for now while considering a character.

AMARDA
4th Apr 10, 4:03 PM
Name: Aldin
Number: 11
Age: 21
Sex: Male
Personality: Is conflicted person. He neither has nor wants the power to change the system, yet wishes that he could change the system with all his being; an irony that amuses him to no end. In actual fact, whenever in the past he has been given power, it has been weird to watch, his general ideas on what to do changing from day to day.

Backstory: Born middle class, Aldin has never really suffered through his life, yet neither has he lived in the lap of luxury. His father had a stable income, his mother a stay at home mum, a rare thing in this day and age. Most of his life has been wasted in front all providing TV and internet, his social life suffering as a result.

Likes: Causing harm to others indirectly. Randomly helping people for no reason at all. Chaos kept in check by limitations. Panic. Courage in the face of disaster.
Dislikes: Politicians. Authority figures, even himself if he has the power to influence outcomes. Order confined by chaos. Wal-Mart (Bad employment experience).

Notes: Aldin is inherently self-destructive, mostly focusing on short term gain rather that thinking of long term gains. This does not mean that he is unable to; he merely doesn’t think that far ahead, normally.

Lestaki

You probably won't be able to win, Amarda, but that character is otherwise acceptable. He will probably be the first and only 'aimless chaos' character I'll accept, though.

First time doing a BW but the premise is interesting (and I HAVE watched the show but that just makes this even more fun.)

Name: Allison Hartwell
Number: 9
Age: 27
Sex: Female
Personality: Calculating, but empathic, Allison's a strong believer in compromise but will use violence when she has no other options. Having worked her way up from the ghettos of Detroit to becoming a leading researcher and developer in the electronic communications industry, she has seen the best and worst of society. At the same time, her work for the US military (not her choice, don't ask) has jaded her in regards to politics and she sees Washington as nothing but a hive of greed and corruption. Too few people hold true power and it must be returned for the sake of the greater good. She envisions a true democracy where every citizen has equal say no matter what.

Backstory: Born into a community that suffered extreme poverty and violence, Alice learned from an early age when to fight or flee. Within her own family, however, she also learned that compromise and sharing what little you have is often necessary as well. Within the small community she trusted, she learned how to barter for what she needed. However, her dad joined in the army and was killed while she was very young, giving her a distrustful streak when it comes to government authority figures. If the government couldn't protect her father, how can it protect everyone? This attitude has evolved into a suspicion-filled, conspiracy-seeing attitude. She sees the government as an evil, manipulative creature far capable of more than people realize.

Likes: independence, personal freedom, isolationism, anarchy
Dislikes: propaganda, "democracy," authority in general
Notes: Alice is heavily involved in the tech world, but knows few people as they truly are. She prefers it that way. Her analytical thinking tends to have her thinking too far ahead of what's going on.

Numbers 3, 4, 8, 9 and 11 are being used. I'm going to stay on 3 for the sake of my sanity, so 10 is still up for grabs.

Disclaimer: Atmawpn added a disclaimer and I think it's definitely a good idea due to the controversial methods my character will no doubt employ during the course of this board war. All views, opinions, and actions portrayed or committed by my character, Sachio Drakon, are meant to be viewed in a fictitious manner only. They in no way, shape, or form reflect my actual political, social, or religious views.

Name: Dr. Sachio Drakon

Number: 01

Age: 25

Sex: Male

Personality: A self-diagnosed schizoid with occasional sociopathic tendencies; Dr. Drakon believes that life consists of a simple truth. The ends justify the means! However, while this belief can be applied to the choices made by individuals, any such choice is dwarfed in comparison to the ends aimed at by society as a whole. Therefore, acts of individual selfishness shall always be deserving of condemnation and retribution, and while acts of great evil should indeed be punished, in the cases where they are committed for an even greater good (that of society as a whole) they can then be considered acceptable (assuming of course that the “good” of the end outweighs the “evil” of the means.)

Backstory: Born the son of a Greek merchant and a Japanese doctor, Sachio began displaying signs of his intelligence very early on in life. By the age of six it was discovered the young boy had a photographic memory, though this barely scratched the surface of his intellectual abilities. Graduating with honors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the age of 16, by the age of 20 Sachio had earned PhDs for his work in both mechanical and medical engineering. Due to his… unique anti-social behavior, Sachio is “forced” to observe any social situation objectively and completely devoid of emotion. However, his intelligence and photographic memory both allow him to pick up on subtle nuances that in turn enable him to display any type of emotional response that is required. With this being said, no one who has met him would guess that Sachio is anything but a normal individual, albeit a genius. He laughs at jokes, smiles when complimented, and he even cried during a funeral of a close colleague, though admittedly that required some eye drops to achieve the appropriate effect.

Likes: Sachio loves math and science. After all, any problem, no matter how difficult, can always be solved if one looks at it objectively. In fact, it is logic that has allowed him to compensate for his natural lack of social aptitude. The doctor views even everyday social situations as math problems that require appropriate and balanced responses. Facial emotional expression, subconscious body language, vocal and speech patterns, Sachio will take all of these into account before faking the appropriate emotional reply that will result in the response he wishes from an individual to whom he is conversing.

Sachio also likes reading, music (from an intellectual view), thinking, working with his robotics and computer programs, and developing new treatments for diseases in his lab.

Dislikes: Politics in general are a waste that often times cause more problems than they can solve! At least that is what Sachio believes. Democracy is wonderful in theory but completely useless in practice as corruption and dishonesty will always work their way through to its very core. Communism is not much better, requiring perfection in order to function properly even though humans by nature are imperfect beings. Theocracies are illogical, placing political power in the hands of those who serve something that cannot be scientifically proven; and almost every form of totalitarian government will inevitably devolve into a children’s game of “keep away” with “political power” as the ball and where the losers are subjugated to the winner.

With this being said, Sachio will freely admit that almost any form of government, no matter how corrupt, is preferable to anarchy. After all, humans are social creatures, and any lack of formal government will simply lead to the formation of an informal one, generally where the “strongest” are the leaders. Therefore while politics are inefficient, the doctor views them as a necessary evil. Still… Sachio feels that perhaps it would be possible to utilize logic to create a government that can succeed where all others fail.

Asides from politics; Sachio can certainly understand the logic of the masses following things such as popular culture, and religion. In fact, he has used such social behavior multiple times to achieve his own ends. However, he personally has no love for either whatsoever.

Notes: Due to his intelligence and memory, Sachio has created a world wide web of contacts containing individuals both inside and outside the world of academia. His memory allows him to be an extremely fast learner, and while he can be a little absentminded concerning things he considers unimportant (like strangers names) he never forgets something once he has deemed it to be beneficial to achieving his ends.

Due to the fact that he must “fake” his way through many social situations, if the doctor finds himself focusing on too many things at once, he loses the ability to interact “pleasantly” with others. Throughout the years this deficiency has of course always been incorrectly attributed to him being “under stress” since afterwards he will generally go to apologize to anyone he has offended, so long as he deems such an apology to be socially appropriate.

Due to the multiple patents he has in the fields of both medicine and robotics, Sachio is quite well off; though in truth money means very little to the doctor. Even so, in order to keep up social appearances, Sachio owns a large estate on the California coast and gives very generously to multiple charities.

Here I go

Name: Charles Grumman
Number:5
Age: 29
Personality: Charles is nice guy. He'll help you move, and be the first person to offer you a ride when you need to get to work and your car is busted. However he's also a man of limited patience when it comes to his services. To put it bluntly, Charles doesn't like it when people lie to him, take advantage of him, or pretty much anything that screws with him. He appreciates a good joke that messes with his mind, but cannot stand it when people manipulate information to mislead him. As a student of law and political science, Charles is cynical of the lying and political intrigue. He understands charismatic talk, and knows a bull-S***** when he sees one. Likewise he is quite eloquently spoken himself.

Back story- Charles is a 29 year old lawyer. He understands how America was formed, and the fact that it was based on a series of compromises, and agreements. These facts have shaped Charles's career. Life cannot be absolute. Perfection is a flawed idea, however striving for it is not. Charles's idea of perfection comes from compromise. Good must come from agreement. Naturally those who disagree violently have forced Charles to intercede and negotiate, and mediate while compromises are made. Charles sees fault not with the system itself, but with human nature perverting the spirit of the compromises made by many noble men and women.

Likes: compromises, discussion, results, transparency

Dislikes: partisanship, veiled agendas, selfishness, the current system's perversion of a balanced government.

Notes: Charles isn't going to be annihilating people, well maybe a few, but his main goal will be to fix the issues that are prevalent. Of course this is cheaper then tearing it down and starting from scratch, and faster as well. Temporarily stabilizing America for another hundred years would be an accurate goal for Charles. Charles hates politics as they are since each camp is firmly rooted in their own stupidity.

Personality: Shifty and sometimes cold is how some people would describe him, though David has been known to display a more friendly side. Before he drifts back into general silence, his cold attitude towards others returning, almost at random. Despite this he always seems to be gazing around at his surroundings, like he is taking stock.

Backstory: David’s history is nothing too remarkable born to a rather average family, with a mother a father, and two sisters. Though his parents did seem to pay more attention to his sisters which could be a reason he seems to generally regard others coldly only to shift to a more friendly attitude at times. Relinquishing himself to his computer in isolation while possessing a few friends, and posting on various message boards ranting about the homeless and lazy welfare check bums. Overall nothing real spectacular about his history other than early childhood teasing has made the man very paranoid at times.

Likes: Freedom of Choice, Working for a Living, Technological Progression, Real Science

Dislikes: Idiots Who Vote, Government Hand Me Downs, Global Warming Hippies, Destruction of necessary power structures for ‘green’ energy, Political Correctness, Government Butting Into People’s Business

Notes: Basement Hacker nothing spectacular but comes in handy every so often, paranoia leads him to carry a gun usually(With a CWP).

Personality: Precise and straightforward. Not afraid to step on toes, even taking lives, to take the shortest path between A and B. Not emotionless, but easily prioritises objectives over relationships of any form.

Ironically his own research would have saved his life if not for what he deemed a "religion-shackled" government removing critical funding for his project a decade ago. For Eric this was the proverbial last straw regarding his deteriorating opinions on how religion was irrationally holding America back.

Likes: Science, Objectivity, Meritocracy, Efficiency

Dislikes: Politics, Theology, Inefficiency

EDIT:

Name: Theo Vandervall
Number: Ten
Age: 23
Sex: Male
Personality: Aloof and at a first glance, altruistic. However, everything he does is precisely calculated to his gain.

Backstory: His father was an executive in an oil mining company. His mother, a politician's daughter with a lot of clout in those circles. From an early age Theo was instructed in the nuances of political and boardroom fights, and following his parents' tragic deaths (a car crash on a dark night after some drinking at a political function, quite the cliche for two such individuals) he trained himself in pursuit of the perfection of body and mind. He travelled to Nepal where he studied meditation, he travelled to the Outback to observe the Aboriginal tribes from a distance, he walked both the Nile and the Amazon and climbed Mt. Everest (twice). A young and cynical prodigy matured into an older, cynical and paranoid prodigy. Retaining his mother's contacts and his father's reputation and clout in the old oil company Theo returned to work for he viewed everyone with an edge of distrust, and rightly so. Offers from other companies that were refused led to public 'scandals' and covert attempts on his life. It turned out his father, albeit a powerful and respected figure, had made no end of enemies - in part due to his methodical and calculating nature (something Theo himself inherited), and such ill feelings had contributed to his early demise. Being the "new boy on the block", Theo had (perhaps unfairly) inherited his father's enemies as well as his talents. It was with a jaded sigh that he learnt of his "Selection", and for a time he bent all of his potent intellect and considerable influence to discovered the people behind this apparent joke. When all searches came up with dust and in certain cases the informants wound up dead, Theo decided to take the plunge. Number Ten, as he now refers to himself as, he plans to work tirelessly to remove the underhand corporate rivalry within the USA (following claims in the paper that "shady competitors" would always have the upper hand in business), as well as secretly planning to extend his influence on a more international scale.

Likes: (politically and socially speaking eg democracy, authoritarianism, equality): Coming soon.

Dislikes: (politically and socially speaking eg free market capitalism, the unemployed, the two party system): Coming soon.

Notes: Rather clever, Theo is a prodigy in that his intelligence, though very high (approximately 135 if IQ tests are any decent measure of intelligence), is combined with a hardworking attitude that borders on religious fervour in terms of it's intensity. Rounded off with an athlete's body, his only shortcoming is that he is sometimes too slow to act upon information as his excessively paranoid nature prevents him from acting impulsively. He also has some knowledge of firearms (especially old hunting rifles), however he is not trained in their use, nor is he some covert ops mastermind who cooly reacts to any and every scenario thrown in his path. He is a civilian, and acts as such.

No, number 7 is Atma's. You can be 10 or 12.

Most likely, I will add some more.

Name: Desmond Lock
Number: 8
Age: 28
Sex: Male
Personality: Not very social. Smart. Modest.
Backstory: He was born into a well off family. He could have chosen from a variety of occupations, but decided to go into the special forces. His greatest achievement in his years of service was when he was one of the eight men responsible for “acquiring” a secret Russian weapon at a testing facility in Siberia.
Likes: Laissez-faire and Capitalism
Dislikes: Socialism, Communism, Elitists, Idiots, Pacifists, Environmentalists, Animal rights people, Wasteful people, Shallow people, People who like to show off how smart or rich they are, and people that get away with things because of how rich or powerful they are.
Notes: He can use almost any weapon. He is not afraid to kill someone (He is a soldier after all).

Out of interest Lestaki, are the requests granted by the Judge subsidised at all? $100 million doesn't go very far when you're talking about acts of corruption (insofar as the actions of the Selected count as "corruption", you could make a convincing argument it was for "the greater good", well, at least the "greater good" for the Selected in question ;)) within a national government.

Lestaki
6th Apr 10, 4:28 AM
The credit system charges based on the scale and difficulty of a request, but the level and scale of the system's control of the government is such that government action can be manipulated effectively with low expenditures.

nice, so when does the wheel begin to turn almighty one?

Lestaki
6th Apr 10, 5:50 AM
Perhaps this evening, perhaps tommorow.

Panzer, I'll be interested in seeing what Number 8's vision for the country is. America has a fair amount of laissez faire and capitalism as things stand. On the plus side, his dislikes appear to include most of the political spectrum. :p 'He is a special forces soldier' is not a sufficent backstory, either.

Added to personality and dislikes.

There are a lot of secret super soldiers flying around. I hope your intelligences are up to the task :)

Updated Backstory and Notes. Likes are probably going to be along the lines of "lol, for the greater good, for the people, for AMERICA" and dislikes are going to be along the lines of "lmao, you do bad things and I hurt you". Think Bruce Wayne and you're not far off.

No, I'm not going to turn into Batman (nomatter how awesome that would be).

Gorb, you're acceptable. Way too many genius children of plutocratic super-elites around here, so much so I may scrap my guy and do a new Number 3.

Kaito has called dibs on 12. The remaining possible number for interested players is 3, if someone wants in, as I can scrap my NPC. We will hopefully start today.

Personality: Nadira constantly struggles between her beliefs and her conscience. She firmly believes that those who can, should rule, and those who can't, should serve. On the other hand, she dislikes to see suffering and death. She hates the thought of people's lifes being set in stone, call it fate, on the other hand she struggles to accept it, as it is how society works.
Backstory: still struggling to remember
Likes: elitism, darvinism, anarchy
Dislikes: corruption, capitalism, democracy, socialism
Notes: Same as in the other posts, this character obviously doesn't reflect my views on political or ethical matters, and actions taken are purely fictional.

Lestaki
7th Apr 10, 8:47 AM
Okay, it's about time we make a start.

Important Note
This is obviously a work of fiction. This BW raises political, social and economic questions that are obviously very contentious. At all times, I want everyone to keep discussions in character, without allowing them to spill over into OOC conflict. The exception to this is if someone posts views beyond the boundaries of good taste, at which point I will step in. If you're ever uncomfortable with something another player is doing for any reason, PM me and we'll work something out. Let's keep this clean and fun for everyone.

8th Apr 10, 2:42 PM
Okami, no requests are authorised and 'occur' without my permission and processing. You log requests and Judge replies. If you don't wait for Judge's reply, she... is left somewhat at a loss, especially in a case like this. This is exactly because in the case of requests like the one you just did, I may need to ask for clarification.

I sincerely doubt Micosoft has a single password protected server with all their crucial infomation on it, and I doubt it could be brought down with one virus attack. A request should be phrased 'hack Microsoft to obtain their confidential infomation' or 'destroy Microsoft by any means necessary'. Your method of asking Judge to provide only a single step is both gamey and also incredibly confusing.

The fact that some players have been posting 'noblesse oblige' approvals may cloud the water here. Those approvals were written by me on IRC. I just want to restate for all players that no request is approved except by me, and no request has any effects until I log it OOC and if necessary describe it IC.

For now, just edit your post so Hope asks Judge for something and doesn't hang up on her. Preferrably, ask her for something simple I can approve of in one shot... but at the least, make it so I can reply IC as her to your request and we can work something out.

$35,000,000

As I established with III's request, attempts to construct a personal power base are both expensive and time-consuming. So this will take time. This one is more expensive since it involves full government authority and the establishment of something new.

Hatred OF the far left or from the far left? If it's the latter, I'd argue there's a lot more venom on the neocon side. The extreme fringe of both sides love to vilify one another, though it's mostly just voter pandering.

Lestaki
11th Apr 10, 2:20 PM
For what it's worth, I think Yoshi and gang are closer to the truth. But the magnitude of the task is what makes it worth doing, in terms of 'saving the country.'

IX $73,600,000.

Hacking military surveillance systems to create three more ghost contacts, maintaining their presence for half an hour.
-at Daya Bay nuclear plant in Hong Kong, Three Mile Island in New York and Leningradskaya in Russia
-to this end, T12 agents sent to infiltrate Russia and China
-bribes to key foreign military officials to establish link to System
-rent of System's intrusion methods
-simultaneous sabotage of the three nuclear plants until the ghost contacts disappear
-bribery of key personnel involved in plants
-destruction of evidence and witnesses of T12 presence after events
-all this to occur in [one week's time]
$20,000,000
This one's a doozy. It's large scale, involves heavy-duty work in foreign countries where the System is weak and it requires sabotaging of some of the most tightly run and carefully safeguard operations on the planet. This will require a week to set up. On the plus side, it will probably be very effective.

Assassination attempt on Governor of California
-prior agitation of right-wing groups
-use of T12 agent to ensure assassin does not survive
-planted evidence linking assassin to far-right religious conspiracy
$500,000
This is easy, and will occur tommorow in IC time. I assume Moki knows the Governor of Cali is Schwartzenegger, a Republican.

Assassination attempt on Governor of Texas in one week's time
-prior agitation of left-wing groups
-use of T12 agent to ensure assassin enters coma he does not wake up from
-planted evidence linking assassin to far-left anti-religious conspiracy
$500,000

Bribing senators from both parties to speak out against partisan attacks
$200,000

-representation to T12 concerning the permanent detachment of above assets to 01's command
-2,000 square meters of copper wire mesh, diverted by agents
-300 pounds of military high-grade explosive, requisitioned from army base
-3 tractor trailer trucks, diverted by agents
-introduction to arms dealers across USA, with recommendation from T12
-all the above to be dispatched to a location that will be specified by 01.

-use of actor posing as concerned citizen who discovered nuke by chance
-influencing media coverage to favour common man, not government
$650,000

Manipulation of national media to favour tariffs and protectionism
$2,000,000

VI $33,000,000
Introduce federal changes to American education system
-bribe plutocratic elite to support said changes with their financial backing, indicating support of T12
-begin with youngest grades and work up the system
-aiming to combine government and private backing to create self-sustaining system
-introducing socialist ideas to country via education
-protection against widespread media perception of plan's operation
$32,000,000
Ambition has a cost. This will take several months to get off the ground, as well. On the plus side, if it succeeds it'd be a solid basis for victory.

Establish network of self-funded hospitals throughout USA
-funding post-secondary education on condition graduates work in said hospitals
-aiming to be self-sufficent by user fees
-use of money at disposal of Selected VI as seed money to begin project
-advertising to attract users
-use of T12 influence to support development
$25,000,000
... and again! Hospitals are expensive and time will once more be needed, but if this works, it's a big coup for VI.

Use of massive bribery and threats to establish Google as an internet surveillance instrument at the disposal of VI
$10,000,000
Strike three. Weav, I hope you don't mind being poor, your requests are extremely ambitious. With that said, they're also very powerful moves. It's worth reminding everyone that massive spending such as this isn't necessarily bad- if calculated, it means taking large steps towards victory. No risk, no reward.

Why is this request being executed? IC post will explain.

Creation of 'Leader', vocal and influential online Christian identity
-use of T-12 political agent loyal to VII

-Leader refers to Wall Street meeting as a repeat of Lehman Brothers and also denounces anti-religious conspiracy
-organisation of massive protest on Wall Street on the day of the planned meeting and explosion, causing security scare and warning

This request is large and complicated, hence it is expensive and won't easily be stopped. It will take place by four day's time, which I am arbitarily deciding will be a Monday. It won't affect Weav's education request, since that request is very large. You can't snipe out other people's big projects with ass-end amendments to your own requests.

Creation of fictitious, stolen nuclear weapon and leak to media of its existance.
-hacking of Pentagon
-bribery of top officials
-creation of leak using agent of T12
$2,000,000
Hacking of American defence systems and creation of ghost contact.
-bribery of military personal to establish direct link to the System
-rent of System's intrusion methods
-infomation leak to Canada, China, Russia using T12 agents
-timing to be exactly 20:15 EST at commencement
$4,000,000

$200,000

X
Move meeting of CEOs to [location outside Bangor, Maine]
-to take place on Sunday

$500,000

XI
Release of 'Swords of Truth' video online. $10.
Create government taskforce codenamed Phoenix, tasked with using any means necessary to investigate and eliminate the present disturbances.
-create false identity John Smith, protege of The Twelve.
-secure cooperation of political and bureaucratic elite
-falsify records of John Smith's key role in crucial CIA investigations
-secure CIA cooperation
-pass legislation empowering Phoenix with funds and authority
-managing media reaction to Phoenix- Congress and Senate blamed as too inefficent to manage crisis
-establish John Smith as commander of Phoenix
$35,000,000

As I established with III's request, attempts to construct a personal power base are both expensive and time-consuming. So this will take time. This one is more expensive since it involves full government authority and the establishment of something new.

XII
Passage of legislation through congress funding day nursuries by taxes.
-bribes of senators and congressmen
-media handling and advertising
-securing presidental approval
$2,000,000
Location of suitable secretary trained by T12 and relocation from her current work.
$10,000

Public announcement of Taskforce Phoenix plans as a positive response to the current crisis
-show face of its commander
-this to occur in a month's time, when the Taskforce is completed
$750,000

Creation of new political party, named American Reform
-securing of funding through bribes to plutocratic elite and indication of T12's approval
-launch widespread popular consultations to determine popular values
-hire candidates and staff, using T-12 placemen for the highest ranks
-make XII's secretary, Diana Mu, party leader
-engage in widespread and sustained media manipulation to ensure mostly favourable coverage
-prepare party for elections
-ensure party can be manipulated from the shadows by XII
-leech money from private companies
$45,000,000
Creation of power-base of successful new party in America's notoriously turgid two-party system with potential to gain all America by winning elections. Will take a month and a half to set up.

VII $79,450,000
Creation of 'Leader', vocal and influential online Christian identity
-use of T-12 political agent loyal to VII
-use of mobile secure location and basic escort
-Leader refers to Wall Street meeting as a repeat of Lehman Brothers and also denounces anti-religious conspiracy
-organisation of massive protest on Wall Street on the day of the planned meeting and explosion, causing security scare and warning
-explosives go off, causing massive casualties among protestors
-Leader calls for Holy War in the face of Islamic Terror
-arrange religious riots between Christians and Muslims
-moderates fail to calm situation
-bribes to senators and congress denouncing priests
-scrutiny of religious education
-plant bombs in Churches, to detonate on day of Wall Street meeting if the demonstration fails, and to remain dormant otherwise
$15,000,000
This request is large and complicated, hence it is expensive and won't easily be stopped. It will take place by four day's time, which I am arbitarily deciding will be a Monday. It won't affect Weav's education request, since that request is very large. You can't snipe out other people's big projects with ass-end amendments to your own requests.

-bribe congressman
$50,000

'I want at least one significant member of Government to have been left out of the loop on the constraints that had been placed on it.' Is not possible, as Judge notes apologetically, since the negotiations concerning the constraints have already occured. Judge can't time travel.

New video released from the Swords of the Truth, stating Phoenix cannot stop them.
$10

Manipulate media to condemn all attempts to limit the power of Phoenix, the only group capable of restoring order.
$2,500,000.

IV $81,000,000
After mulling on it, I've decided to disallow the speech with reference to messiahs, saviours and the Numbers. The Game is intended to take place without public knowledge. Judge won't help with such a request, but if you want to give a speech on the subject, she can't stop you. The Twelve may not like it, though.

Bribe CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News to be showing live footage of the reunion from 7:30 PM EST to 7:45 PM EST time.

-taken to private hospital under the name Theo Vandervall to be treated for severe burns
-if he survives, use T12 agent to assassinate him with lethal injection
-use T12 agents to secure and cremate body
$800,000

XII $52,240,000
Prevent all casualties from tommorow's bombing of Wall Street
-relocate local banks and close stock markets
-use police to drive protestors out before bombs detonate
$500,000
This one is cheap because there's been a goddamn bomb threat. The local banks and stock market are already out, and the police just need a good prod.

Accelerate formation of Phoenix based on this incident
-further bribes
-T12 advice to CIA
$1,350,000
This will cut the time required to form Phoenix to two more weeks, down from three.

Attempts to weasle indirect leads about The Twelve out of Judge are futile. But asking questions about T12 is very sensible indeed.

Crusnik01
15th Apr 10, 4:39 PM
LOL

Don't take it personally Okami. Sachio is sociopathic scientist. To him, the latest request is just logical.

Here are the following possible results for the doctor's "experiment."

1) If Hope did in fact die, as it appeared from the initial broadcast, then Sachio's request would have no effect.

2) If Hope survived but was just a pawn, messiah IV would allow him to die assuming his usefulness has run out.

3) If Hope survived and IS messiah IV, he will of course protect himself.

4) If Hope survived and is a useful pawn (which is unlikely) he will be protected.

Basically, your next move will tell Sachio a lot about who and what you are. ;)

Kane

Kaito
15th Apr 10, 4:50 PM
Okami, you should pay close attention to the request logs, everything that shows up there can be used to get to you. So rather than requesting a fixed identity, it would be better to request a new anonymous identity. That way, this request will be logged, and you get something random and no one can know about it. Another thing is your enrollment in highschool, that will make the search a lot easier. It would be better to request that a normal life be fabricated for you, including the history of having led that life. That way, judge will create a backstory for you, will get you a workplace or highschool or whatever you might need, and everything without telling the other selected.
The facial recunstruction idea was good and necessary, but since you have told us the name that you will be having from now on in the logs, you are not safe yet.

don't get yourself killed, yet :P

Crusnik01
15th Apr 10, 4:53 PM
I'll need to wait for Lestaki to confirm or refute my belief, but for the moment Okami, I think that while your latest post will definitely prolong the hunt, it doesn't seem like it will completely forestall the "hit" Sachio has placed on Hope. The same I think goes for Kaito's suggestions.

Again we'll need Lestaki for confirmation, but I think a counter order from another Selected may be required to stop the hit altogether.

Kane
15th Apr 10, 4:57 PM
I forgot about that, thanks for reminding me....(Hope is smart, but I'm an idiot) I scraped that last part in my post.

Lestaki
15th Apr 10, 4:58 PM
I'm too tired to confirm or deny that. I'll think about it tommorow evening. But yes, Okami, you do have further options. Skipping the country for a few days puts you outside the range of the system. Ordering a hit on the hit squad is an effective, if brute force solution. You can get Judge to give you police or military protection. And so on.

These kind of actions are likely to swing the pendulum from 'you may be okay, depending on how I feel' to 'you'll be fine'.

Kane
15th Apr 10, 5:00 PM
I'll take no action to raise no suspicion, and if need be will think of something. tired as well Letski, I feel your pain.

Kaito
15th Apr 10, 5:00 PM
And for everyone's information, you can think about each judge to be it's own entity. Which means that everyone of us has their own judge, and they are not connected and have no access to each other. They probably cannot even see each other's logs. So logically, you cannot do anything like "find Numer XII", but once you have a clue through the logs or anything else they have done, that might get you the identity of someone you suspect to be a Selected, you can use judge to take the lead through means possible to her.

For example, number XI, AMARDA, had requested "-create false identity John Smith, protege of The Twelve."
and
"-establish John Smith as commander of Phoenix"

as nothing else about any control over the taskforce has been requested (I requested to be able to control my party without my identity to be known, for example), one can assume that John Smith is Number XI (although you can't be sure). That, of course, makes him vulnerable, even more so since he is going to become the head of an organization, ie a public figure.

So any requests concerning John Smith would be legitimate, but any action concerning number XI directly would not.

I just wanted to explain this again because it seemed to me that some people didn't fully understand this yet. Hope it helped.

Also, another info, if one of the selected dies or their cellphone gets destroyed, their number in the logs will be grey, making it visible for everyone that they are no longer in the game. But since no one has been killed or otherwise removed from the game, this has not happened yet and therefore the characters can't know it yet. Which means you can in fact not read anything out of the display (like whether a character is still alive or not) until you have seen proof that someone you suspected a Selected died and their number greyed out. Until then, you must assume that selected could be dead even though their number is not grey yet.

Crusnik01
15th Apr 10, 5:07 PM
ahhhhhh... well thank you for that Kaito. :) I had been under the impression that there was only one "Judge." I haven't seen the show so my only excuse is that my mistake due to ignorance. Thanks for the heads up.

Updating the logs is an enormous pain in the ass, as Weavern predicted. This is an exam term for me and an important one at that. For now, I'll try and cut down the time it takes me to make the logs. But I may have to consider more drastic options soon, such as putting the game on hiatus. If anyone has helpful suggestions, I'm all ears. Likewise if anyone would be willing to run the game while I'm mostly absent.

IV $80,249,995

Judge, I would like to cancel my fake identity request before it is readily available.
Done. Note that inactivity is a wholly inadequate response to the assassination request. I'm being nice here, but I will kill your character if don't do something serious about this before I next advance the plot.

X $96,600,000

"Judge, several requests. Firstly can you change the public documents that refer to the 'Theo Vandervall' impersonator as being injured in the Wall Street blast to being injured in an attack on his, that is to say, my estate on the day of the Wall Street attack. My estate is in the country and off the beaten track so I doubt anyone will notice that is hasn't been blown up yet."

"Secondly, I would like my estate blown up. Tonight, as of six hours from this call. Utilise the same types of explosives that were found at Wall Street. No excessive damage to the estate grounds, merely the security network deactivated, the guards sedated and the house itself reduced to rubble."
$500,000

"Thirdly, I require an adaptor for my Noblesse phone which would allow me to attach a regular set of earphones and a wire-mounted microphone. Many executives have such an attachment; I myself use one for my business mobile. My paranoid nature, and the actions which take place tonight, require that I am as inconspicuous as possible, once I am back in the public spotlight that is."
... nah, I'm blocking this, actually. The Noblesse Phone isn't exactly a normal phone, and you'd just prompt the other 11 messiahs to make the exact same request.

"My final request, Judge, is to request the hire of two private bodyguards who are accomplished at the following tasks: sharpshooting, cracking computer networks and handling explosives. From existing T12 assets, of course, but loyal to me, obviously. They are to arrive as soon as possible, preferably before the destruction of my estate, and please pay them at least a month in advance."
$400,000

V $85,779,877

"First, I'd like it if a new line of phones were introduced, called the Noblese line of cell phone. They will look like our phones, and will have numbers on them ranging between 1-100 in roman numerals like ours. This will lessen VI's ability to locate us, and cause suspicion about Google from conspiracy theorists.
$2,500,000
This will take time, at least a week. It's more likely to look like the Google thing was viral advertising for this line of phones than actually block Weav's move.

Secondly, I'd like to nominate a man with a falsified identity of Charles Gruman to run for the president of the Unites States. He will run under the same ideals of the other senators and congressman, if he gets elected, I want to make sure he knows that I pull the strings."
... nominate for which party? Or if he's running as an independent, where will his money come from? More detail needed here.

"I need a separate phone from the Noblese phone. I want it to pick itself up when it is called, and I want it taken out under the name Dr. Octoganopus, and I want the number to be 720-867-5309."
$120

I also need a cheap apartment with internet access, and a high quality microphone, with a laptop that connects to high quality speakers and half a pound of plastic explosives, thank you for asking Judge."
$150,000.

IX $66,100,000.

"Judge, cancel that previous order for a team. They will not be necessary now. Instead, I request that you get me a team of highly skilled program developers: a whole team specializing in web and mobile applications. They are to operate out of the 2 safe houses I set up before as well as a 3rd undisclosed location. Set aside enough funds to pay their wages for three months as well as purchase any equipment they will require. I will not be the public leader of this operation; come up with a fake name and hire someone to manage things. Preferably female, young and very charismatic. Someone who appears to be a bit of a rebel college student or somesuch."
$1,500,000

VII $77,450,000

"If you are unable to answer then so be it. My next request would be far simpler though: for Leader to clear his name of the implications and have the implicators be found to have a clear anti-religious agenda. This will not only restore his standing, but provide further fuel for his own words and followers. However, limit his outrage to a simple condemnation, and instead have him lead his followers to 'pray for America in this time of need.' The other Selected are taking far too active steps for the moment and I don't wish to give them further reason to intervene."

I would be willing to do be half-gm, although I wonder how much that would reduce my ability to actually play the game. ;)

But it's better than hiatus or plain death.

I would still need to get back to you, Lestaki, though, in some cases. (Especially in the actions that I want to take around now >_> )

That may be a good idea. We can discuss it at some point.

American presidents continue to be protected by the Secret Service for ten years after leaving office. You hired thieves, not thugs, and even if you had hired mercenaries this wouldn't be an easy mission. No go without using the phone somehow, in this case.

Just so everyone is aware of it, buying an abandoned missile silo (or in this case a com. bunker) is not that hard. The bunker Sachio owns, and is now being used as his base of operations, is based on a real one that I could in fact purchase if I so wished. However, in real life I have no reason to own real estate like this one. LOL :)

I'll probably be making a request in my next post, Im just waiting for a quick response from Lestaki.

Thanks for the info Lestaki, I will act accordingly. Changing the request to simply locating him and handing him a note, somehow. That should be possible.

Kaito, I love your spreadsheet.

Also Lestaki, could it be possible to acknowledge that It would be wholly impossible to have Charles run a candidate for president, because now that I think of it, Charles wouldn't want him to run as a Dem or Rep, and the ARP, is controlled by Kaito, any Presidential candidate the party goes for will not be influenced by the Twelve, because it would be in conflict with his request. That being said, no one could afford to back a president independent, without it being a game winning move, and this game has already been shortened a bit more than I'd like.

Is it not for life?

Well I do think you could spend loads of money to bribe the higher ups of my party without my party head knowing it, but as soon as it's in the logs, I can take precautions..

I blame exams. :( The next few weeks are gonna be hell for me. That being said, I plan to post when I can. However, who knows when that will be.

Finals are in two weeks, a ten page lab report, another ten page lab report, a five page paper.

AP tests don't have a drop on it...

Okay since everyone seems busy but kinda willing, how about we let this BW pause and set a specific time to continue?
We can accomodate it with an IC timeskip, aswell, to continue the story.

Opinions?
I will definitely finish this BW, though (not meaning I need to win it, but if no one else is willing to, I will ;) )

AP tests don't have a drop on it...

80 questions in 55 minutes, followed by a DBQ (45 minutes) and 2 FRQs (30 minutes each).

For some that is easy, but for someone with ADHD that tends to do things slowly. It can be a challenge.

I'm taking the APUS on May 7 I believe, and the AP English Comp later on. I took the Euro last year for a 5. Remember, if you aren't confident in your MC skills but feel you can do well on the essay you can get 50 of those multiple choice correct (and 10 wrong, meaning 20 are blank) and 7 on all three essays and barely enter the 5 range. What it comes down to is knowing the subject. It is, of course, much more advisable to answer all of the MC if possible, and always answer questions you can narrow down to 50/50, since you only lose 1/4 of a point for an incorrect answer.

EDIT: Also, if you get a 9 on the DBQ and an average score on the others, it's worth it. The DBQ is worth as much as both of the others combined.

Thats right man, I also took the beast of a test last year and scored 5. This year just kick back and relax, and play BWs. Nice to see someone ele who was put through the meat grinder. :bump:

Just a heads up, I'm going to disappear around May 12th for almost a week due to a wedding (not mine.)
