View Full Version : Force Commander - Gabriel Angelos Reskin (Ranked Compatible)

Inspired by Shuma's great helmet mod and with a few requests in tow, I put together a reskin replacing the default Force Commander's model and portraits with Gabriel Angelos.
I have not tested how well it works with the Campaign, but so far everything seems perfect and bug-free in Multiplayer/Skirmish.

Ooh awesome' just 1 question, what have you done to his portrait once you equip terminator gear, because as far as i could tell, i didn't find any files of Gabriel in Terminator armor.
Btw, i must be getting blind, but where can i download your alteration? :D

Oh...haha, I can't believe I forgot the link.
I made Gabriel his own Terminator portrait the best way I could, but I'm no expert with Photoshop. Still, it looks pretty decent to me.

I know the actual helmet exists, however- I was more keen on maintaining the actual armor aswell, since it's more fittable imo instead of the other rank unlocks/wargear etc;

Hi. Just wanna say it looks great.
But as =agent-orange= said, it would be nice to see Davian Thule's head on the FC. I love his Bionic eye and his whole face. So would be great to see him soon between the FC's shoulders. ^^
You could use this potrait aswell for him.

And I got another thought, I really like Avitus head aswell. I think he looks like a commander with all the metal on his face. Looks like hes been throu alot of combat.

Well...I can change them, the question would be to what? There isn't a different portrait I could use for them.
A few unused Ork and Chaos portraits though.
Davian Thule used range weapons I thought, doesn't make as much sense for a FC, but hell if it looks cool that should be the only justification I need. I'll get to work on it.

Sure, Davian Thule use a Heavy Bolter in DoW2. But hes face is so much better then the normal FC. So would die for a Davian Thule head instead. -hehe- And I gott say, I love Bionic eyes. ^^
And by using his head doesnt mean it has to be Davian Thule. 40k is a big place, and alot of FC's that got Bionic Eyes and more. Just need to use some imagination. ^^

I came up with an idea how to make him look a little less like Thule, if you had some dislikes about the idea of his head on a FC... But its just a small thing, make his Bionic eye Red or something instead of Blue. Why I said red, its the most common colour I've seen on Bionic eyes.

Heh, i think every living person loves Thule. Thule is by far the best Force Commander DoW has seen, second only to the awesome that is Gabriel Angelos, which now that i think about it just puts him above Apollo, Mute Commander and Boreale, then again, it'd be hard to make someone better than Thule or Gabriel anyway, but Apollo was good enough.

The original Blue Bionic eye works perfect. Just said it could get a change just because if Kolaris didnt want him to look just as much as Davian Thule. -hehe-

His Portraits were not as conducive to good (well, mediocre) Photoshop work as Gabriel's were, but I did what I could.
And sorry, feeling a bit lazy and didn't take any screenshots. You should be getting more or less what you expect.

Edit: The .module section in your readme is missing the 220_data.sga for the current patch... well, not really an issue, but more work than simple copy+paste for us lazy folks ;)

Hi.
Still love Thule as FC. But I have noticed something, I might be wrong... But the golden part of the backpack aint gold anymore, its team-coloured. I wonder if it has to be with Thules head... with Angelos he still had the golden part, but not with Thule. Was it a miss and can be fixed, or will it stay like this when using Thule?
Would be fun to have that golden part back, but wont miss it that much since I have Thule. ^^
just wanted to let you know if you havnt noticed it yourself.

I just wanted to metion that if u equip the FC Angelos & Thule with a Jump pack their faces look really weird.
Dont know if u know it allready but i like my FC jumping into a Enemy Nest with his Hammer so maybe u can fix it

This wasn't really meant as a Campaign switch as it wouldn't really make much sense (Thule and Angelos are already in the Campaign), so I didn't include the Jump Pack versions.
If there's enough requests for it I might add them though.
Oh, and has anyone noticed something strange about Thule's backpack, specifically its team texture? I've heard reports that it was a bit off but I can't see anything wrong about it.

Yeah, I've wrote what I can see. That normaly the packpack should have a golden part, but its gone when using Thule. The golden part is team-colour instead of gold.

I guess that's a problem with Thule's backpack by default. I don't think I have the necessary knowledge of the textures to mess something up so specifically, heh.
I can probably fix it by completely switching his backpack out for the default FC version, I'll see what I can do.

Alright, a new version with Thule is available that has the standard FC backpack rather than the vanilla Marine version.

it stopped working in Retribution since the FC have a different head then the original FC, and the mod is ment to replace the old FC's head. So someone have to uptade the mods so it will replace the new FC's head. Sadly I dont know how to mod, or I would have done so already.

The very easiest way would be to extract the contents of the .sga and make a new folder named diomedes, leave the unchanged .dds files in the force_commander folder and move the other files also re-named from force_commander to diomedes into the diomedes folder, re-package the files as a .sga and put the .sga in the gameassets/mods folder as normal.

Well as it is Kolaris' thread I decided to work on the problem myself, not so easy! 1st it should have been force_commander_nobackpack I said and 2nd I decided to make it so that the FC can equip a jumppack.
So after two nights work I hope these work:-
EDIT:
I have run a test by bringing up the army painter screen in Chaos Rising, can't test Retribution, and both work as before but can equip jump-packs, should work for Retribution though, now all Diomedes portraits, I think, are replaced.

I re-worked the mods that Kolaris did and checked that all files were there, so it should work in DoW2 and CR like before although the FC now should be able to wear a jump-pack. I also changed Diomedes' head to match, so the FC used in the previous games should be the FC in Retribution, however, I do not have the retail game to try it on and naturally the Beta ended.
There was already some portraits in the mods and the portraits used by Diomedes, unless it was just for the Beta, have the same name as the first two games. Theoretically they should work, I could always be proved wrong though. :)

Hey man, just wanted to say thanks! All works fine in Retri! I love the Thule commander skin. Just awesome! Alot better then the grandpa or Vanilla Ice... So thanks for the wrenchtime you put in!
One more question. I hate the new voice they gave the FC. Is it possible to also change the soundfiles the same way you did the skins? That would be even more awesome!!

But... I also noticed thats the old problem from before was there aswell. Where the golden part of his backpack was team-coloured instead.

I have looked into this and the problem is with Diomedes as his head model does not have a backpack with it, could be using a common Space Marine backpack and the version of Thule used is the fixed one from Chaos Rising. There also seems to be some portraits which have escaped my notice too, probably campaign related.

I haven't worked with sound files yet and can't promise anything.
EDIT:
Looking at the sound files, it doesn't look good. There are more than enough files for Gabriel but not nearly close to enough for Davian.
It's confirmed by looking into a few ebps files Diomedes is using - art\race_marine\troops_wargear\accessories\space_marine_backpack\space_marine_backpack, hence the team colourability.
I've updated the links in post #40 due to including the missing portraits.

I am definitely not as good with the portraits and other associated art assets as you, Existor. I only have Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 and not quite mastered it's full potential.

Hello, I really enjoyed using your Thule mod(since the new FC looks like derp), and it worked for a time being, but with the new 3.14 patch I think it broke(or at least, broke for me), would you have any advice I can use to fix it?

The easiest way to install the mod is to put the .sga in:-

I don't know whether the latter solution will break the Ranked Compatibility of the mod!
PS:
As I do not have the full retail Retribution, merely the Beta(none functioning), I have approximated the .module section from another source.
