With new screenshots abound, I would like to rehash an old dead post, about the PCGamer shots.. In which I said a lot about blocky characters, disapointing graphics, and taking away from what I thought was the dark and scary world of 40K...

i wanted to collect crimson fists when i started cos i thought they looked good...but (stupid sentance coming up) i got the paints for ultramarines accidently lmfao...stupid i know..but hey! i was young!

As strange as it may sound, that's the exact reason why I started collecting Ultramarines (and yes, I will keep doing that).

When I started 40K, there were four main chapters:

Blood Angels
Ultramarines
Slamanders
Space Wolves

This was before 2nd Ed 40K, and as far as it went there wasn't a great deal to separate them beyond colour scheme. I didn't like red, and my friends were getting Blood Angels anyway, so I chose my fav colour (blue) and picked the Chapter that was that colour.

Only later would everyone (except me) get special rules! ;)

my m8 collects blood angels and tyranids..he paints his tyranids red aswell..my other m8 collects eldar, his bro collects imperial guard (has quite an army too..tho the infantry are just cannon fodder...another m8 collects necrons, his bro collects orks, and his other bro collects Tau, another m8 collects Dark Angels and his m8 collects black templars, i collect ultramarines and Tau..

you know i have never actualy played a ultramarine army, i played templars and i played teh area mananger for GW and he tricked me into thinking a missle launcher was ap 2 otherwise iw ould have won :naughty:

those are some damn sweet screenshots. i find the way so many units stand next to each other a little disorienting, but other than that its cool. check out all the particle effects! smoke, explosion, steam, and even a cloud of blood hanging over the dreadnought in the second pic. teh awesome.

obviously the AI hasnt been done properly yet? a it does seem strange that the orks in foreground having a nice little chat next 2 a few space marines also talking to each other watching the battle

Examine the Battle_03 screenshot really closely, and a number of things come to light.

Right at the back, on the horizon, is definetly a devastator squad.

I can see both a lascannon and a heavy bolter, and what I think is a multi-melta (look for the man standing up next to the heavy bolter)

Next to the statue of the Emperor, There is a blue glow effect, which signifys power weapons or something else (Upgradeable veteran sargeants? Plasma weapons glowing blue? a lit Flamer?)

Also, The scene of the battle is exactly the same as the ground below the assault marines in the other screen shot.
Notice the statue of the Emperor, and the Ruined gothic Arches. (they match)

As we already know Ultramarines are a multiplayer skin, Clearly this is the Relic team's current favourite Multiplayer map :)
Clearly, they've already started (and maybe finished?) mapping.
If its not this one, then what is your favourite map so far?

Also, take a look at the sky around the big explosion, and you can see hive spires looming up in a subtle highlight, awfully similar to distance fog.

Will distance fog be present in the game? Or only when the camera is at certain angles?
Thing is, those hive spire look really damn far away, so I have faith in the engine thus far.

I can't wait to see this in a UK PCGamer, as this is the first I've seen of this wonderful wonderful game.

well i knew about the settings of both piccys, and i notice something looming in the background now..but i fail to c the lascannon and heavy bolter?

edit: i like the trail of blood infront of the dread aswell as the cloud of blood above it :P

In the earlier screenshots the corpses flying trought the air didn´t look that good. But in battle_03 they look great; they are all flying away from the explosion and it just makes you wonder what caused that bit of carnage.

The devastator squad are on the horizon, partially hidden by the smoke of the big explosion.

Plus, you have zoom in to see their weapons.

They're the ones standing next to the Dread, in a line. You can tell one or two of them has a Lascannon by the bigger Backpacks and the way they hold it. If you look at a regular Lascannon armed Devestator minature, that's the way they hold it.

There's also a lot of Ork Burna Boyz around the Dread. There's even one a little behind it who's busy cutting at a Tin Can's leg joint. And in the centre there's an Ork with a rusty blade and presumably some kind of Power Weapon wielding Space Marine (there's the glow there).

i c the heavy bolter and what possibly could be the lascannon thanks. if u look at the 1st PCGAMER with the small preview of DoW : the top 10 one then u can also see a dev squad in the background with lascannons, heavy bolters, etc. u can also see a preditor and a land raider.

I can't see any of that.

From left to right along the horizon:

Marine in the air.
Marine with, I guess, a flamer (lit end up the Orky burnerz).
Marine.
Marine.
Marine
Dread.
Something then lots of smoke until a muzzle flash directly beneath a flying marine.
Then a Marine.
Anothr Marine, firing a bolter.
Then one, two, three, four Marines all with bolters.
Then ruins and smoke and not much else.

The second last marine, one firing with a muzzle flash, could be a heavy bolter, but it's too far away to tell. I certainly don't see any Lascannons or Multi-Meltas.

well u c the explosion to the left beside the statue in the far back well if u zoom into it u will c a dreadnought and the 2nd marine to his left is a heavy bolter marine which u can tell by because of his backpack and the way he is holding the weapon, right beside him to the right(1st marine from the left of the dread) may be a lascannon marine. in the TOP 10 preview and the other screens in pcgamer prove that there r heavybolters, land raiders, preditors, and dev squads. the dreads in the screens in pcgamer also vary from 2 close combat weapon dread to assault cannon dread...does this mean a high customization feature? :viking:

My name is 0dy and I can not lie. This game looks bad ass. I was never into Warhammer 40K but I have a working knowledge of the game. I’m sure that Relic having so many hardcore fans working on this project that this game will be better than even these screenshots can not even begin to demonstrate. Props to all the wonderful minds at Relic.
