The True Foe?

So far in Space Marine, we've only seen the Ultramarines fighting the Ork Horde. But, as we've seen in past Relic games, Orks are always a means to end being used by another race. So, which one do you think is pulling the strings in Space Marine?

Personally, I hope its Chaos. While Eldar are very shiny and they'd make interesting enemies(in terms of gameplay), their motives are just plain boring. Chaos has physical ties with the Space Marines, and their rivalry opens more possibilities.

Well, we know Tyranids are there, and I seem to recall some hints that the Eldar may have some presence as well. (and, at one point of the original trailer, we see cross fire of a very eldar-like nature....)

There's a good chance of Chaos being in, I'd say, mostly due to the nature of the IP. Though we know that Space Marine was developed separately to the other Space Marine, if they cannibalized any of the cancelled game's corpse, the left over Chaos content could easily see its way into the game.

The story could swing several ways. We could see the orks being manipulated by a hidden enemy to find a, say, chaos artifact hidden on the forge world. Maybe the forgeworld had hidden cult, which somehow produced/procured a powerful Chaos Artifact. An Ork Warboss is told about the artifact by chaos agents who wish to retrieve it, so the Warboss invades.

Personally, I may find it more interesting if the Orks were NOT being manipulated, since it's never much of a twist when one discovers that they are.

But, again, considering the nature of the IP, I'd say the main antagonist is either Chaos related (chaos lord/sorceror/daemon), or something equally scary, such as.... a Swarmlord, maybe? :P

Any one think they might pull a DOW2 leaving it open for expansion i.e. nids, eldar, marines and orks then sequel involves chaos?

DLC galore, i would imagine.

there's potential for a fuck load of DLC anyway, and considering the way gaming's going - wouldn't be surprised if chaos or someone else appears later on.

cant have too many races involved otherwise it becomes rather diluted. 4 races is enough is it not for the first outting?

The original Space Marine trailer showed a lot of assets from Dawn of War 2 including the Ork Warboss, so i wouldn't be surprised if we see Eldar AND Chaos in Space Marine.

I for one hope that for once the Orks are just WAAAGH!!!-ing on their own...

Just have the Eldar, Chaos and whoever else come in after and try to take advantage of the situation to get something instead of causing it.

I'm with Shuma. I find it very likely that as the media juggernaut starts to cycle up and more information is released, Relic will reveal a third and then a fourth race.

Four races is traditional for Relic's 40k games, and a good balance between the quality they can deliver and the "fullness" of the game.

And of course, the most likely candidates are Eldar and Chaos. Sure, we saw what may have been a Carnifex in the background of the trailer last year, but Relic never actually said anything about the Tyranids.

Actually, I watched that trailer in HD many times, and it really didn't look like a carnifex to me. At all. I'm not saying that Tyranids won't be in the game, but I think it's too early to assume that they will be.

Really? It was playing out the death animation similar to the one we see in DoW2.

I personally recognized it immediately, but at the same time, it's true that it wasn't exactly a crystal clear image.

EDIT: Just checked the "official" trailer, it's not in there. So, essentially, it's one of the small pieces of additional footage that was in the extended behind-closed-doors version of the trailer.

I recently seen a gameplay video a while back and the other enemy was chaos marines , it was a walkthrough gameplay of what would be involved in the game.

The combat system looks fun as it is similar to that of gears of war with executions and what not with weapons. I also found that in multiplayer you can can customise your space marine to what ever custom chapter and marine you want as THQ want to get the true feel of customisationthat is in Gamesworkshop when painting tabletop models etc..

At E3 THQ mentioned that customisation would still be a big factor in multiplayer though, if i find anything new i'll post it on this thread :awesome:

boys boys boys!! how about examining sumthing that was actually clear and visible in the first trailer from last year the large titan! or is it a titan? perhaps maybe sumthing tau? yes i know its probably unlikely but whos knows? i for one would enjoy slashing up some Kroot at close range and engage a squad of fire warriors at long range maybe using my assault pack to descend from the sky and cut down some meek fire warriors only to go toe to toe with a krootox well now im just rambling but just throwing it out there

It was a Warlord class Titan, which hopefully suggests some Adeptus Mechanicus presence, beyond the ones we saw in the initial trailer.

As Kharrak said, the Titan in the trailer is an Imperial one, and suggests the possibility of the AdMech being represened in-game.

Tau don't have Titans, Exalt, they have giant anti-gravity aircraft instead.

Im sure as time goes on well get some clue as too what other races will be revealed. Personally I would like to see some chaos marines .

I'm pretty damn sure I saw a Carnifex in a Trailer. I'd rather fight Orks and Chaos though. Keep Tyranids out...

What ever happened to a good old proper Ork invasion. Why must there always be some scheming Farseer or Champion of the Dark Gods behind the scenes twiddling his thumbs in glee about how how he expects you to die, Mr.Astartes.

Helsreach the game, now that would rock. Leave the other races for a nice little expansion/DLC bundle.

i kinda have a feeling they wont be going for the ork being led by someone else sicne they already did that TWICE.. and im sure the devs at Relic arent that dumb to see that it gets old. but what i wouldnt mind would be that the orks would be invading.. an then someone took advantage of that and also somehow enters through the confusion of the ork invasion. but eh.. well have to wait an see
