Well what sort of music would you all like to be in a 40k game? I know I've thought about this a lot and I would really like something with lyrics that is sort of heavy. I also think that classical orchestrated music if done right would go along very well with a 40k battle.

It would have to be dark gothic classical type stuff. Lyrics would preferably be in latin and sung real airy like by some opera chick.

None.
Its rare that music actually helps a game rather than simply hindering you from hearing whats going on.
As such I usually disbale the music automatically before playing any game.
HW1 and HW2 are the rare exceptions but I cant see DoW using the ambient mood music in a bloodbath.
I turn the music off alot in games too, can give it a more realistic edge

I thing some stuff from Karl Orff was in the Chaos Gate game. Sounded like Carmina Burana, but I'm not sure.

Thank god most people want the gothic/orchestral/chanting style music. When this is brought up at other sites (for movies, games and the like) most people want heavy metal, or some other trendy music that will be utter crap in a year tops (just listen to the cheese 80s music with synthesizers and the like, and then listen to Star Wars, which was made in the 70s. Trendy does not equal quality). Also, the orchestral style epic sweeping music ALWAYS scores higher with the reviewers (but, considering your musical taste with the HW series, I have no fear over your selection of music for the different races).
Although with orcs, some deep bass, almost tribal souding drums and horns would be great. Something primal, forceful.

Hmm, now thinking about it, the styles for each of the races. It would be great if we could either have the option to select the music for multiplayer or have specific music for each race.
Some examples for the races/music:
Chaos: Deep bass, evil chanting, nothing upbeat, multiple choruses singing.
Imperial guard (I suspect that they will be in the SP game as cannon fodder etc, but when they are onscreen for cinemas and the like they) could have music similar to the marines in Aliens. The standard militarty style music for the common man.
Eldar: Something haunting sounding, choral strains all around. Some light bass here and there, because they don't have the plodding feel to them. I wish I could describe it more... Maybe I could find something later on to help demonstrate.
Space marines: Already described above with the gothic/epic/choral... They are the chosen of the emperor of mankind, afterall.
Orcs: Described above as well. Deep bass, tribal style music. Very much primal.

Don't know who made the music for Chaos Gate but I would definitely like to hear same kind of stuff in DoW, too. And for those, who don't like music in games at all: there's always the option of turning it off.

That's something I really liked about In Extremo. An entire bagpipe section, and they sing in High German. Rock on.

Just as long as the unit voice acting is decent and the music is reflective of the gothic nature of the game then I've got no problems

Tribunal, now that I think about it you pretty much summed up what I think would capture the feel of the game. To those who say they dont like music on their games... I actually do this for some games, but I really think the 40k universe deserves a strong defining music to set the mood. Some games I really think dont need music, and most games are definatly fun without it but the music in the 40k universe seems like it should partially define the feel of a race/environment.

The ambience should be just wright for those eerie moments, when you're walking through those deep thick catcham jungles.
Just waiting for your point man to get viscorated by some nasty bug or sliced and diced unceremoniously
by Shuriken Pistol fire.
Plenty of Climatic battle scene music :guitar: , with occasional high tempo Bass beat blasts to get the adrenaline pumping at all the right occasions.
Hopefully if done just right they'll need a health warning fixed to the game.
*!*Warning this game will make you wake up crying like a baby!! People with Puny Hearts, please consult your doctor before opening this package*!*
On a different note if they have genestealers in it I would like them to add the scanner noise from aliens into it *blip* *blip* no way man, where all gonna die man *blip* *blip* *blip*

Well i think the music is a very important part of a game, played fire warrior and found it had no music very disapointed! it should be gothic, and should definatly bring a tear to the eye when the battles begin oh and for the developers please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please have it in mp3 format or sumthing that works in media player,

...on Tribunal's part. I would also take this opportunity to point to Emperor: Battle for Dune as an example of a game with a decent soundtrack; you can find some of the tracks from it here (http://www.dune2k.com/?page=files-emperor&show=audio) in MP3 format. Note that the entire OST comes up to 45 tracks, divided equally among the three Houses.
