View Full Version : Modding?

I've read through old posts, and I've seen the question asked but never answered. Will the game be open to the mod community? This move adds years onto the life of any and all games (just look at halflife!). The ability to create new armies and units would be brilliant! Or at least a map editor...? If not, I hope the rest of the armies will be added on with patches/expansion packs.

A map editor will be cool. But i hope that modding is not allowed. Modding usually ruins the game because it screws with balance issues and makes trying to play online very fustrating because of all the different mods that will arise. A map editor would be cool, or a online multiplayer that creates random maps.

Are you kidding? Modding is what keeps a game intersting. It's why HL and Starcraft are still going strong

very true that is the key to popular RTS games and sales. hey if u dont like mods then DONT download the mods or play the mod games, its that easy.

Also I didn't get to add this, but if you want to add all the other armies to DoW, The Dark Eldar, The Necrons, The Tau The Vaygr, The Teadiez and so on, you can mod them into it. In the end Multiplayer and Singleplayer of the original will become boring and the new injections of flavour do much to improve the games.

An official response would be greatly appreciated, even if it's another one of those "Sorry, we can't disclose that as of yet" replies.

   Please! Please!

Keslov - same happened to me, with DC for BF42, and Day of Defeat for Half-Life.

Mods keep a game going after the initial "newness" of the game wears off. I hope that Relic will make DoW modable.

As it turns out. There are many skilled modders on this forum. Just look at the amount of Mods for HW1, once pronounced "Unmoddable"

I look forward to whatever answer they provide on the tools they’ll provide, but I hope they learned from the mistakes they committed with Homeworld 2 editing (required Maya for even map editing). :kami:

I'll wager that the game will be incredibly moddable. I base this on IC and HW2.

You guys should check out the RDN section of Relic's website for a sample of the tools there.

Even if its not officially supported, I'm sure we won't really be detered. Proably keep a lot of amateurs from having a go. Relic would be mad not to support it anyway. I can't wait to start working on some mods, horus heresy anyone???

The way they talk in the interview I get the impression that new armies will be released as official expansion packs. Speaking of modding, a system to link Army Builder to this game so you can try out your list virtually before taking it to a tournament or game would be absolutely brilliant!

there is just one problem with that....this ISNT a virtual version of the tabletop game.

and thankgod its not, otherwise id be arguing with the computer about the rules all day ;) the only problem with mods, is that sometimes some people views on how powerful extra races stuff should be, like a guardian taking down a bloodthirster in one shot, im more hoping that relic release expansion packs with new campaigns, even d/l armies in patchs and stuff would be cool

There'll always be the good and the bad mods for games, and in the end it’s your choose of whether or not you wish to participate in these mods.

Also, thanks for coming by Jay, and giving us a response. :kami:

No problem, but I’m also looking forward to expansion potential, and there is allot to expand with in the WH40k universe. :kami:

well im hoping for some more chaptors, and as i doubt the chaos will be to detailed a expansion that expands onto them, a nid campaign would be cool, even a stealer cult campaignw ould be cool :D

Yeah, a campaign regarding stealers would be really awesome.
