I asked this question before, but I've forgot how to exactly do it.

Everyone knows Start > Run > msconfig > startup, but how do I exactly add a program here to load on start up, or remove it? I don't mean uncheck and check a program to start up and not start up. But actually remove an entire program listing, or add one?

I knew it was something simple. Thanks.

Actually, the shortcuts in Start->Programs->Startup are not the ones listed in MSCONFIG's startup tab.

Those are found in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Oh, and a word of advice. If you see "LoadQM", remove it. Naughty naughty Microsoft spyware.

kthx bye

I've wondered what that qm was. It's installed with messenger, and whenever you update. What does it do? I always remove it after an update.
Mot things do that. One of my ISP's installs something called tkonnect that supposedly checks youre using the right number to connect to it, but also sends details of what ISP youre using, how fast and for how long to a central database.
Realplayer installs something called tkbell. I dont know what it does, it doesnt run after startup so I haven't disabled it.
Quicktime does something similar but I took that one off.

If someone wants a process viewer to check what is running, ask me. Ctrl alt del does NOT tell you everything.
