I was wondering, what will be the number of units per squad? Are they built as 5, then if you decide to sacrifice tactical opportunities for an increase in unit strength for those units, could you put them together to form a 10 unit squad?

Also, will the units come down as all clones of each other? Or will we be able to have for example a squad of 5-10 Space Marines, where some have bolters, others have flamers, etc?

forgot one thing:

GNPC: How far along is the project at this time? When are you hoping to see the game finished?

Jay Wilson: The project is almost finished content production. We'll be pushing through the summer in order to ship in the fall.

IGNPC: Is there anything else you'd like to add about the game?

Jay Wilson: It ROCKS! You're going to love it!

bump, seriously, this is important

Soheils, if you look to the bottom right-hand corner of your posts, you'll find the 'edit' button. In future please use this to add material to your posts, rather than making new posts. It's not necessary to bump posts, either; I'm sure the Relic staffers read this forum carefully, and I think they're more likely to be put off than enthused by whiny messages of importance.

How much customization is allowed for our squads? Can we customize our requisitions? Or is it just "Tactical Squad", "Devastator Squad" with a even balance of the different SM weapons?

Judging by the screenshots, squads will be bought 10 stong, and you will be able to choose the weapons config, at least to a point: ie 4 rocket launchers, 4 Heavy bolters, possibly 2 of each; that devastsator squads, obv.

I'm guessing no mix:

"Tactical Squad:

One Space Marine in the squad may be armed with the following weapons:
heavy bolter at + 5 pts; missile launcher at +10 pts; or a lascannon at +15 pts.

In addition one Space Marine in the squad may be armed with one of the following weapons:
flamer at +6 pts; meltagun at +10 pts; plasma gun at +6 pts."

I'm guessing we won't have one of each. We'll just combine with two weapons slots? Or we'll just "pair up" the two different weapons choices for three choices. Or have eight different choices representing the combinations?

this screeny depicts 3 squads, all of them 8 strong.

Perhaps you specify how large a squad you want from reinforcements. Perhaps dock you some units for smaller squads, i.e. if you choose 10 man squads you might get 20 guys in a 'reinforcement session', but if you choose 5 men squads to help beat people down with numerous big guns, you might only get 15 guys. A guess, nothing more.

I wonder about the degree of customization for the weapons. Each Tac-Squad has 1 guy that can choose 3 weapons, and another guy that can choose three more, different weapons.

Maybe you choose them before landing? Or "upgrade" on site?

Perhaps its based on what the squad does
- a light infantry squad would be 10
- a rocket quad may be 10
- a devastator squad might be 4
- a sniper squad - if there is such a thing in WH40K may be 2 men.

p.s. anyone notice how Relic's new project's initials are WH and their first project was HW :hmm:

Snipers do exist in 40K. In IG armies they are... well snipers =]
In SM armies they are SM Scouts, those still going throught their training, who use a sniper rifle rather than typical boltgun armament.

Let's not forget rangers...

What I want to know is how they will implement each squad having two "special" guys, one with a heavy weapon and one with a different heavy weapon.

For example the Tactical Squad:
One guy with:
heavy bolter, missile launcher,lascannon
Another with:
flamer,meltagun,plasma gun

Yielding these combinations:
missile launcher/flamer, missile launcher/meltagun, missile launcher/plasma gun
heavy bolter/flamer, heavy bolter/meltagun, heavy bolter/plasma gun
lascannon/flamer, lascannon/meltagun, lascannon/plasma gun

Two slots with three options each: [Nine] different combos, and that's just for the Tactical Squad. There are other examples in other armies...but the same basic gist of it is there.

Or they could do what they did with IC and let u customize your squads before the game and create them with the click of a button during the game.

That'd be cool. Configuring an anti-personnel squad, an anti-vehicle squad so you can then jus drop 'em in depending on the current situation...

It beats have nine different tactical squads: but you need a option to create new variations "on the fly", so to speak. Maybe a unit customization button and "area", like Earth2150 has.

Also, we may need sidebar and bottom-bar shortcut stuff to "map" units to requisition them. For example, we can have buttons on the edges or bottom and have special keymaps that order something assigned to the key. For example, we should be able to assign Land Raider to "Shift+1" and Land Raider Crusader to "Shift+2". Only problem is this interferes with the groupings for units in the game itself. Press shift when you actually want to select a unit, and you find you've ordered a Land Raider when you wanted to select a certain group.

I think the devastator squad will be 5 including a sargent. Also you can get scouts possibly 5 also.

I think that the game will have some amount of custimization. In the screens in PC Gamer, it shows a squad with nothing but bolters and 2 flamers. And in another a squad has a heavy bolter.

What I think they might do, or at least I would do. is when you get reinforcements you get however many men in a squad teleport or drop down. They would all have bolters nothing else, than by clicking on the squad and/or indivdual you could "upgrade" the soldiers, so you could upgrade one for X amount of resources to a Squad Leader or another one with a lascannon for X amount more.

What they might do is have you preselect a type of unit.

So before the game you can set all your configurations to your specifications.

So say I want to get a marine squad with 2 flamers or a squad with a heavy bolter and a plasma gun. I would save each of those configs so that I dont have to make those choices every single time in the game.

I would think so as well. A more permanent thing then Earth 2150's custom setups. We'd have a whole new menu screen for it: and people wouldn't play the game rather then tweak their ideal army setup.
