Check out gamespy's front page. There is an article on creating a new IP and a pic for the link of what looks like a space marine land raider with a weird looking gun thing on the front. I can't find mention of what game it is from and it isn't from Dawn of War but it's so much a rip off that Relic should find out and do something.

I know that someone might argue that all RTS vehicles are basically rips / modifications of exisiting vehicles (be they fact or fiction)..like the tanks in C&C (esp generals) being like abrams etc...but really this pic isn't like a land-raider..it is a land-raider with a weird gun on the front.

Now that I read more carefully - I think its from Acclaim's Red Star..which btw isn't an orginal IP..it's a license from a comic...which I glanced at once...some cool mecha designs etc with a vague soviet feel in the future...the writing seemed pretty bad so I didn't buy it..I guess if the comic artists are involved in that pic then the whole comic must be full of copies of other designs....I find that the case in a lof of comics/games....mecha being hmmm lets see we can take the legs of this gundam, oh and hey that mechwarrior torso looks cool...how about we stick the gun on from that 40k tau model....

The tank is not a Land Raider, its much closer to a Rhino. Major Rip off if you ask me.

not really a rhino, look at the angle of the treads on the front...thou i guess it looks to be in size more rhino like and has no sponsons...ok so its corss between a rhino and a land raider !

Looks like a Russian Army Transport with some kinda fake missile mount on top of it. Let me assure you people that while Rhinos and things arent Real they are modeled after World War II Bunker Crawlers. So in some regards GamesWork Shop ripped off Allied War Designs ;)

Looks like a bastardized version of the rhino.

my only comment is:
If you were to create a new vehice, what would it look like.
Tracked? with guards?
doors the sides to let troops in?
sloped front panels to deflect shots?
lowerable front/rear ramp for troop emark/disemark?

cos that what i'd use, funnily enough they all come out looking like existing APC's or GW rino/landraider varients....

One of the really cool things with the WH40k universe is that tanks, vehicles and equipment is inspired from the first world war.. when tanks were really huge brutes and not the more modern or even wwii sleek designs.

actually, if you look at the placement of the hardware and the hatch design... it looks exactly like a land raider with a missile pod mounted on the front.

Things may look similar, but the body design and armor framework are EXACTLY the same as the land raider model.

I know, I have four of them. :D

It was actually encouraged to build your own vehicles and customise them how you want in the first edition.
Mainly because they didnt have the models for everything back then.

You people are so litigious its hilarious. Im gonna dump all of my air force retirement into a board game called BattleMallet: 50,000 just so I can watch you people go berzerk on this forum.:evilnod:

Heres the vehicle I was talking about, I dont believe this is a world war II model, but I know its Vietnam or possibly Korea.

Aside from a different paint job and some weapons that dont exist in real life I'd call these the same thing.

Umm...that's a M113, often referred to as the "BattleBox" or "Armored Shoebox". The M113 is fielded with the Sheridan, just in time for Vietnam and some Israeli conflicts in the Middle East.

It's not a "WWII era Bunker Crawler".

Can you read? I said it WAS NOT the WWII Bunker Crawler, I said it was a Korean or Vietnam era Armored Vehicle. I was just proving to all the litigious people on the forum that GWS didnt pull the Idea for that transport out of there heads.

Have Games Workshop 'TradeMarked' the model for the Land Raider ??

If not, you can 'rip it off' as much as you like.

well, that looks more like a rhino though.

Blah. I thought you tried to answer my query about the "Bunker Crawler" w/ a image of a M113. o.o

i prefer the term 'inspired by' rather than 'ripped off', this way everyone get some credit :)

to CodyLamp, i want in on this Battle Mallet 50k project of yours.

at first when i saw that piece of gamespy art,i thought it was the sisters of battle immolator's evil cousin.
goss (christian gossett from the redstar comic's) is into warhammer 40k so it wouldnt suprise me if that bit of art is from the redstar game.
but don't apc's look pretty similar in most games anyway.

Seeing as how Games Workshop "ripped-off" existing tanks I think I'll let this one slide.

Although it does look freakishly like one of those new Rhinos. But what in the hell is that thing on it? A Missile pod or something?
