CSM dread is better in H2H combat, and in the wargame has much better equipment options. However its far less predictable theres a 1/3 chance of it going frenzied. This isnt always a bad thing. ;)
The SM dread is basically the same; slightly less good in combat, but at least its reliable. And some chapters have access to Venerable Dreads... :D
Its between these 2, cos the Orky Dread is out of their league!

The ork dread is just a walking tin can :D

I'm a fan of the Chaos Marine Dread's.
If you outfit them with 2 HTH weapons they're evil.... evil but slow.

Blah, don't remember if the Blood Angels Furioso-pattern dreadnought was any good HtH...

the penitent engines look kinda vulnerable to me, what with the pilot being strapped in front, with no/next to no armor. a gretchin could take the guy out with a few shots ;/

well penitent engines are armour 11 on the front , but are open topped! :)

the furioso dreadnought is excellent in combat (because it has 2 combat weapons)

Anyone remember the first deadnaught modles? Those weird figure-8's with guns and legs stuck on the sides?
Those looked cooookey =]

Anyone who thinks an Ork Dreadnought is a can of soup, should get into CC with em. then well see who is the soup...

Actually the Daemonhunters Inquisitorial Dreadnought is possibly the greatest dreadnought known. It excels in every area of H2H and its long range capabilities are amazing. Not to mention it could probably take a greater daemon if holy enough :D.

They may be fast, but I'd hardly call something that's AV11 and open-topped "scary". A nuisance maybe, but not scary.
I'd probably say Chaos Dreads are better than anyone else's Dreads, but that's only if you spend a large amount of points on them (Mutated Hull, D-Possession). They're unpredictable, but they're the toughest Dreads around (even moreso than Venerable ones).
Regular Marine Dreads are cannon fodder. A big AV12 Elites choice isn't hard to take down, and they're no good in assault since the TAR.
Orky ones? Well, they suffer from the same problems as loyalist Marine dreads - too easy to kill. People just bring Kans as you get more of them.
My personal fav "dread" in the game though is the Sentinel. They die if you look at them, but I can bring 12 of them to the table!!! 12 Multi-Lasers is nothing to sneeze at!

I agree, sentinels are an essential part of my DT army.

EMP grenades in close combat work, but you have to be really lucky. Blind dumb luck it was, if it really did happen.
Oh, and the best 'dread' would be a Wraithlord. Cheap, durable and effective at both close and ranged combat. And it doesn't count as a vehicle.

i've had beeter blind dumb luck than that, chaos Rhino blowing a dreadnought with its twin-linked bolters :D
