It can be done, I knew a guy that managed it.
It is difficult though. Most strippers melt plastic too...
Damn I can't remember what it was called.. I think it was an emoulson stripper.... might be way off though.
Sorry

Look for 'removing paint' on the left hand side. There are several great products you can get that don't harm plastic or even glue. Brake fluid is the most commonly used (you just leave the models in it for anywhere from a few hours to a day, then run them under water), but one of the articles on the page above (The Paint Removal Experiment) mentions Castrol Super Clean, and makes a good argument for it. I've seen this stuff in action, and it seems to work great, although I've never actually stripped paint myself.
Check out the other articles as well. Dr. Faust's Painting Clinic is the best painting website I've found on the net, and has wonderful resources. In particular, look in the 'inks and washes' and read about 'Magic Wash'. That stuff just rocks. Its an essential to any painter who wants their models to look really good without too much work spent.

I've seen a few things on the web about this stuff, seems to work very well.

As Shadione said, brake fluid works great, but you have to use the right DOT #, some are non-corrosive. Just be really careful not to get it on your skin for too long (wear rubber gloves), and wash up really good with soap and water.

Long time reader, first time poster.
For removing paint from pastics try easy-off oven cleaner. I've had great success with this product and my plastic miniatures. If you're still unsure of a product though, I highly advise that you test it out on an old miniature or spare bit or something.

I've used Lestoil floor cleaner to strip a metal mini, but I'm not sure if it'll harm plastic. Might wanna try it out on an old plastic bit to see if it does any damage before trying it on a full mini.
