It's my first post but I've got to ask, if they were working on Dark Millennium or at least the concept of it back in 07 why they didn’t collaborate on Space Marine? The game creators must have produced skins, IK, physics engines etc 3 times over, Imagine if one big team had concentrated on a single concept like the MMO but made an off shoot like Space Marine for a 1st person shoot’em’up ?
Just thinking out loud.. :)

Because Dark Millenium is being made by a completely different company whose only relation to Relic Entertainment is that they're both THQ studios.

Where does 1st person come into the equation?

No I understand that Croaxleigh what I meant was, wouldn’t it be good if games companies could collaborate on games that very similar? Especially, when they are from the same base idea. Modern manufacturing ideas means that they consort with each other to lower costs, like many car manufacturers using the same diesel engine, even rival electronics companies will discuss research and development paths then agree to cross buy components to save both companies millions. It also means less duplication of work which is my point I suppose. The first person shooter came from my frustration of there not being one lol sorry but maybe if they had a standard parts list for both games they could have spent time developing one .. just dreaming suppose.

It does happen that companies sometimes collaborate with other companies, of the top of my head Team Ninja cooperated with Nintendo recently in the making of Metroid Other M, Kojima and Konami worked togheter in Castlevania Lord's of Shadow, etc, etc.

That said, i seriously doubt that Dark Millenium and Relic have collaborated in any way, mainly because both games are very different, graphics in Space Marine for example are much better since it's not a MMO so Models, Textures and Animations wouldn't be shared between them, in fact the only thing in common between the two games is that they're set in the same universe.

Yes i suppose it could eventually happen that 2 promising companies could collaberate to make 1 warhammer 40k game; althoug it is unlikely im afraid.

BTW, nice to see someone else from the North-West on here ;)

The last Warhammer 40k collaboration was Dawn of War: Soulstorm, which was a collaboration between Relic and Iron Lore Entertainment. That said, it was a collaboration on a single project and was done at THQ's bequest to allow Relic to focus most of their energies on another project... it wasn't two companies making drastically different games sharing assets.

Hi Danny , yeah not many of us up here have fresh running water let alone this new-fangled internet lol :) I don’t know if anyone else has those waking dreams where they imagine what they would do with the money if they won say the Euro lottery .. besides the obvious sort out the family etc. I’d love to (a) make a Crysis style first person WH40k game then (B) a WW2 Tank sim , but the best thing I have heard so far this year concerning games is Space marine and Dark millennium being developed. So who knows with the film being released and the 2 new games maybe I’ll get my shooter and be able to storm an elder Citadel or defend against Ork hoards with a load of my mates in termi armour :)

You and me both, man. WH40K FPS Crysis style, with melee combat. That means being able to control all of your character's limbs, so you can punch, grab, kick, elbow, knee, cut, roll, dodge, shoot, etc., etc. If I was a game director, with a huuuuuuuge budget...
