Dawn of War CANCELLED!

According to Relic news site The Guidestone (http://www.guidestone.com/), sources within Relic have confirmed the cancellation of the anticipated Warhammer 40,000 game Dawn of War. Relic and THQ will hold a joint news conference tomorrow afternoon to officially announce the separation. It is expected that the two companies will cite 'differences' with Games Workshop, the owner of the Warhammer 40,000 intellectual property. An anonymous source within Relic has said


"We just couldn't get on with them... they obsessively enforced their intellectual property rights to the point of absurdity. We had to have copyright notices tattooed on our retinas... the pain was intense. Armed Commissars stood behind us, ready to shoot if we disobeyed orders."
Rumours of abuses had already begun to seep from Relic's headquarters in Vancouver. Orange jump-suited employees were kept in locked cages all night, only allowed out during office hours in order to work on the title. Another Relic employee who cannot be named in order to protect his identity told us that


"They kept us chained at all times. I haven't seen my wife in weeks... I pray to God they didn't get her too."
Rumours that Relicnews staffer UberJumper (a former member of a Canadian special forces unit that the government still denies the existence of) led an extraction team to free Relic employees from their imprisonment are still unconfirmed.

Edit: Come to think about it. Relic does have the habit of playing April Fool's jokes. Remember when there was a rumour running around that HW2 would be for Xbox only? Anyway, I hope it is a joke. Either way, I will kill the ones responsible, I almost got a heart attack from reading that title.

games get delayed... so dont get to upset if DoW falls back to Q4 of this year or Q1 of 2005. its just one of those things people have come to expect in the software industry. i rather wait an additional few months for a solid game then get a crash prone, unbalanced game on time.

i really cant think of a single "A" list game that has not missed its original release date.

I can confirm that the recent rescue attempt led by xenos UberJumper was a complete and utter failure. The disorganised rable of troops assembled put up little resistance to our defences here. I commend the actions of my officers and men in crushing the foe without taking a single casualty. In addition to this, I am confident that further attempts will not be made.

Earth-Command: if news didnt have a date stamp then yes i would agree that it needs to be taken down. but since there is april 1st right next to the news, i hope it stays.

Brain General and Richtofen: it would be a mean joke if ionfish just put up a headline and nothing else. instead he added a link that has not existed for some time, included quotes that would never even be said and mentioned a sneak attack on relic to free employees... not to mention that the whole event took place on... wait for it... APRIL 1ST.

i dont feel sad for games. i would however feel bad if anyone was let go if they could not be moved to other projects within the development house.

Well, I personally feel that since most of us have already been shaken by this joke already, and we have already admitted it being a darn well executed one at that, that this should maybe be closed, so as not to cause any further fear(look below) or ranting, or even any more insults. But then again I'm just a member, and a fledgling one at that, so take this with a grain of salt. However, unlike you, I would be veeery much hurt to see this game go(40k has nearly consumed my life if it werent for my fiance) and just seeing the thread there still kinda sends chills down my spine. So yea, sorry for rambling, do what you will.
