Well i suspect this may be a reoccuring question soon enough so here goes?I got ahold of a beta full release of XP......Now i have a Radeon video card, the driver seems fine, everthing else works ok ,but Cata doesnt seem to see my video card! And i can now only play in software render which i dont have to tell you guys aint to great!Now do i have to wait for Radeon to make a driver or is there gonna need to be a patch for cata?I dont see a patch coming out to soon soo........I know there was a problem with Cata and win2k i have it but i never put it in so i dont know for sure.So any suggestions any answers?

And pls no "buy a geforce" only constructive critism here please the full release version of Xp comes out in 30 days and new systems already ship with it!

What version driver are you using? Do you have a Win95/98/ME driver, or a Win2000 driver installed?

I think Win2000 drivers work under XP, but Win95/98/ME drivers don't...

P.S.

Those systems have Geforce cards, though... :p

I recall reading on a Windows Website somewhere that XP is based upon Windows 2000, as will all products from them in the future.

The point of this article was that B.Gates said this prior to the release of Windows 98 SE and Windows ME. It is my understanding that these two products are the last of the non-Windows 2000 based products.

What does this mean for older games? :confused:

Yes, XP is based on Windows2000. However, they have apparently fixed the compatibility issues with older games, I've heard from beta testers that they work OK now.

And even if they didn't, it'd still be worth it - anyone using Win95/98/ME is missing out on a lot :)

Yeah i,ve tried win2k drivers and unoffical XP(not supported by ATI) drivers. Win2000 and XP use the same NT Kernal i belive?!XP has this option called compatability that if a program worked well under previous version of windows you select that version in the compatabilty but it didnt do anything?

Well tried this and it works WOW!!

In your Cataclysm folder, open the file "devstats.dat" in notepad or your favorite text editor. I don't claim to understand everything in this file, but the asterisks appear to disable functions for video cards. Each line lists a video card and by putting a "*" in a certain column, you can disable that capability/function.

Look at the last two lines, which should be:

7B561350 C45A192C ........*....................... ..........*..................... - ATI Rage 6 AGP ;

DA30A599 C45A192C ................................ ..........*..................... - Radeon DDR ;

Here comes the weird part: you DON'T change the Radeon DDR line, you change the ATI Rage 6 AGP line.

This is from the post I found (and can't find online anymore):

"The problem for me was the first * in the first line, replace it with a . and restart, you should now have D3D as a device option. I think something similar must be happening to those who have D3D only as an option except it's the 3rd rather then the 9th spot. See the legend at the top of the file for more info on the options.

Ah, I remember seeing that fix a while back...

And no, it's not just top-of-the-line gaming rigs that have Geforces. Most new comps have Geforce 2 cards these days. (the top-of-the-line ones have Geforce 3 :))

I was thinking that Bug report's description "Get help with all your Relic gaming problems" including also issues.
Sorry if I mistaken.

Thanks for the info HVAC, I do remember something about this a while back but it's good to post it here so maybe it will help others.

Hmm, that is the same fix I had to use to get my Radeon 32Mb SDR to show D3D in Win 98 SE.
