Mac_Bug
3rd Sep 11, 4:50 AM
Not really sure what's going on there with the date, don't be surprised if it changes back to 6th in the next couple of days

It's released at 12:01 EST, wich is 9pm on the 5th for West coast. It's just how steam works.

3rd Sep 11, 2:54 PM
Mac, that is the official release time on the SM site, 12:01am Eastern Time. Steam confirms I will unlock at that time.

EDIT: Direct2Drive is having a really awesome deal right now, it is $38.71 with sale + coupon (and I got lucky, had 1 $5 credit on top of it). The key activates on Steam normally, so I am downloading it now (first game I ever had Steam be slow at downloading but I guess I still have 2 days and 5+ hours to go anyway before I can play anyway).

Just had an additional 27.1 MB download for Space Marine, the preload having been completed yesterday. I've heard of Day 0 patches, but this is the first Day -3 patch I've ever seen. :P

Mac_Bug
3rd Sep 11, 6:45 PM
yeah temprus you're right the time checks out :) Also on the consoles the local retailer here (futureshop and bestbuy) both have the game available for 52 bucks for some reason, must be lucky labor day sale

yetanotherplayer: not a patch till it's out! also it adds goodies, delicious goodies

Man its tempting me sitting there in my library *damn you steam for preloading!!* Also why did i have to start school on the 6th :(

SPEZZMAREN
3rd Sep 11, 7:58 PM
At least you can preload it! In the UK, Space Marine has been removed from the Steam Store!

Ewokz
4th Sep 11, 8:40 AM
Depends I stuck my code from Direct to drive into steam so I could pre-load it, if your gonna get it delivered though your outta luck.

Ooh boy, it's September 5, i wonder if the game really came out already! I better open up Steam and check!

Wut?

I think it's best to rely on the Space Marine site's official countdown clock for the timing ^^;

I'm getting it like next week at the earliest and I'm ok with it. :corn:

Misiok
5th Sep 11, 2:47 AM
It's September 6th in USA, 8th in Australia and 9th in Europe...coming from the Space Marine website.

Faenaris

It's September 6th in USA, 8th in Australia and 9th in Europe...coming from the Space Marine website.

Not completely accurate. I live in Belgium, already have my (retail) copy sitting on my desk and my Steam is telling me that I can unlock the game in 10 hours (which means I can play the game at midnight).

Misiok
5th Sep 11, 5:35 AM
Didn't you know? Belgium is now in the USA :p

I still have to wait to have my copy sent to me on the 8th...Damnation.

CommissarRezail
5th Sep 11, 6:31 AM
Well my marines will drop in 15 hours, so around 11 .p.m this evening for me. Emperor have mercy i probably won't sleep tonight.

Did I mention that I hate you guys? My version wont be here till saturday since Amazon UK wont be shipping till thursday...

Well, have to content myself with DX Human Revolution until then.

Ramrod
5th Sep 11, 7:32 AM
Like Faenaris, Steam is telling me that I can play it at midnight. Then again, Switzerland is an odd case regarding Steam.

Sinogrim
5th Sep 11, 8:30 AM
Ok. I understand this "wait till X date, Y hour" stuff. But why the fuck can people who bought a hardcopy not install the freaking game till it's released? That's just weaksauce Steam...

Ewokz
5th Sep 11, 8:37 AM
Isn't it a breach of some sort of law to sell a game before it's released? Steams just playing it by the book, blame the shop for selling it to you too early :/

Mac_Bug
5th Sep 11, 8:44 AM
you could just enter the key into steam and preload it

Sinogrim
5th Sep 11, 8:49 AM
No, that's the point. I can insert the disc and click install. Steam stuff pops up asking me my serial code, but when I enter it, Steam simply says the game isn't out yet and shuts down the installer...

Servius
5th Sep 11, 8:56 AM
That is BS. The worst kind of intrusion of unnecessary online apps. If you have a physical copy of the game, you should be able to play it. You should never be required to do anything with an online service to play a game if you have a physical copy.

Pocktio
5th Sep 11, 9:01 AM
Except that is not how games work nowadays. Even the most unobtrusive gamels require internet activation. It is hardly BS, you are in the age of broadband so you better get used to it or you will be getting pissed off at something as inevitable as the tides.

Sinogrim
5th Sep 11, 9:05 AM
Ok. So now Steam says I can preload the game (which is something I guess), but it makes little sense to me why I can't simply "preload" the game using my discs... It's just stupid :(.

HeLMuT
5th Sep 11, 9:47 AM
So much anger here. The game comes out very soon people, patience is a virtue :)

Ewokz
5th Sep 11, 10:02 AM
Anger that you can't use a game before the release date

Sinogrim
5th Sep 11, 10:22 AM
I'm not angry because I can't play before release, I'm angry cause Steam doesn't allow me to install the game using my disc. It's just silly to download all those files if you have them right next to you on a disc. Some people still have this nuissance called a download limit you know...

Shuma

Except this is a Steamworks game, if you don't like it you don't have to buy it, Steam is like someone else said, just playing by the book by not allowing people to play the game before you know, it comes out. Steam is DRM, no one hides that, and i'm pretty sure everyone knows it, so i don't know why it comes as a surprise that DRM is acting like DRM.

Ewokz
5th Sep 11, 10:47 AM
I'm not quite sure in what format steam downloads games, but you still have to install them when their released. Pre-loading the game doesn't mean you can jump right in when it unlocks, it usually takes a while.

Shuma
5th Sep 11, 10:53 AM
Actually i don't think you have to do that, last game i bought i remember hitting cancel by accident and it started anyway. I remember because my first thought was "FUCK! YOU COULD DO THAT AT ANY TIME!?"

Sinogrim
5th Sep 11, 11:39 AM
Wait... so preload basically just means you download the required files which will then sit on your harddrive somewhere untill they get unlocked so you can start installing it? Why doesn't Steam allow you to install those files? Fear of people hacking their games so they can play pre-launch?

Ewokz
5th Sep 11, 12:09 PM
I generally have to wait for windows c+, directx and "configuring" to appear and finish before I can start the game. I wouldn't just take my word for that though, as it might be different for others.
I'll give that a try Shuma, I'm downloading Darksiders at the moment to burn up some time before release.

Mac_Bug
5th Sep 11, 3:22 PM
SM is now live on Steam

konfeta
5th Sep 11, 4:20 PM
Wait what? We can play now? I saw steam download something around the time of Mac's post, but it still says "not released."

Mac_Bug is a super troll with ambiguity :(

Mac_Bug
5th Sep 11, 4:29 PM
restart your steam and try to play the game from your library

konfeta
5th Sep 11, 4:30 PM
I did restart steam. It downloaded a patch but the game is still locked.

Maybe it is live only in certain regions?

Mac_Bug
5th Sep 11, 4:31 PM
i guess it must be only live in Europe... but not sure how I'm able to play in canada then

konfeta
5th Sep 11, 4:32 PM
This is revenge for all the "Canada is USA's hat" jokes, isn't it?

Or maybe it becomes live if you activate the game the game with a cd-key, while pre-orders from steam directly fail to do so?

Mac_Bug
5th Sep 11, 4:43 PM
nah its just THQ people getting early access apparently, that and Europeans

konfeta
5th Sep 11, 4:44 PM

Misiok
6th Sep 11, 3:01 AM
My Steam still says it's available on the 9th.

Besides, I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive and I'm in Europe, so I feel your pain Konfeta :P
