Let me first start by saying I am no newcomer to WH40k, I have played tabletop and was interested in the games since Chaos Gate and Final Liberation. Space Marine seems amazing so far and I am very happy to see the 40K universe finally get some recognition for being awesome. Anyway here is my idea...
Imagine Left 4 Dead + WH40k.
This may sound like a strange combination but hold on, just read a little more.
Gameplay
Instead of survivors the player takes command of a single Space Marine part of a squad aboard a Space Hulk. Instead of zombies there are Tyranids. I have drawn a little influence and ideas from the Space Hulk board game, there would obviously be objectives or reason to traverse the Space Hulks like restoring power, collecting samples, unkown alien lifeforms aboard, lost artifacts, and many other possibilities.
Classes
Players could choose their classes or even choose their selection of weapons for each mission. Anything a space marine would use is viable here. Bolters, bolt pistols, all types of grenades, flamers, heavy bolters, and melee weapons. A heavy focus on team based squad gameplay could be forced through the need of a variety of support roles like Tech Marines, Apothecaries, and commanders. In order for a team to survive they would need to stick together and utilize strengths and weaknesses.
Enviorments
Tight corridors that are dimly lit with power outages. Each mission enemies would be randomly spawned, generated, and change where they attack and how they attack the players. Doors could be jammed, passageways could be collapsed, floors could give way, ceilings could be broken to allow Tyranids to pour through. Also a few larger rooms here and there to break up the gameplay.
Enemies
Tyranids and LOTS of them. Lots of fodder to blow away and randomly generated larger units would provide a fear of the unknown.
So far this is very basic and I haven't had much time to think about it. So what do you guys think?
