I think as in other games MP fps also depends on the host machine performance and internet speed.

To be sure you need to try hosting.

Most likely shitty hosts, combined with the current netcode Relic has - its just atrocious.

Every other game of mine is just a lag shitfest, its pretty disappointing.

whats the difference in engine that drop FPS 2-3 times??? (SP/MP)
all levels in MP just a set of boxs! not super graphics or shaders!
and in MP a i have low FPS on HIGH and LOW-LOW-LOW settings!!! like my video card dont do anything

if SP make render 1650*1080 on high with 60 FPS (with all FX, many orks etc)
why in MP 1024*768 on low do only 30 and falls to 15???? with only boxs in screen???

i try demo and it all perfect! a buy game and it play like shit ((((
i hope on fix!
PS
in Dawn Of war 2 FPS dont link to ping, and when other players lags the game i have perfect smooth movement!

Hmm we told you already. In SP the performance is based on your hardware but in MP it's limited by the host machine performance and or his internet quality.
How else do you want it to be put?

In MP
Good machine + Terrible host internet = bad fps

Good machine + Terrible host machine = bad fps

In SP
Good machine = good fps
Bad machine = bad fps

Geez ... were you born in 2003?

Not sure which games you play but every FPS I've played performs worse in MP than SP

no! in MP there is no need to process AI scripts, game triggers. on my all game work better in MP - FPS slightly higher

Good machine + Terrible host internet = bad fps
whats link between Ping and FPS? now in 2011 all games learned independent from the ping (hitbox, interpolation and other)
i can have 1000 ping and 60 fps! (but gameplay will be worse)

Actually... set pieces for games in single player are rigidly setup so they don't overtax your machine in games (particularly in console games). They are designed for certain attacks to occur without killing your computer.

Multi-player is a different beast, any number of different combinations of events can occur in those kinds of games causing matches to bog down. Explosions, spam, bodies piling up all in one close proximity... all things that don't happen in single player. It is that reason why multi-player maps are usually far less interactive and not as detailed as some single player maps. Multi-Player matches slow down more than single player for most games for that reason. So yes, multiplayer takes a better machine than single player when the action gets going.

As far as match lag/performance goes, the host processes the entire match. We just connect to his computer, his computer runs all the code that runs the match and relays it to us. So if he has a slow computer that can barely run the game at a playable frame rate, or has a very limited internet connection (or BOTH), that bottlenecks the game for everybody else.

Yep. None of this would be a problem if they game us dedicated servers for multiplayer. Just create a beast server with a fast-as-fuck internet connection and no problems like this would occur.

i7 860 with a Geforce 470GTX and 4 gigs of ram running on 7 Ultimate. My computer is built around gaming, from the top of the line solid state HD, to the gigabyte motherboard, and to the high end laser mouse/keyboard, Dolby Digital Live (optical only output to a component 5.1 surround sound stereo) sound card I bought, and monitor I that use to interact with it.

Space Marine has not stuttered once in MP/Single Player at maxed out settings and resolution (1920x1200).

My guess it is your Geforce 960GT. That card is not an enthusiast's card, but a bargain card. It can play games, but you're never going to get those high frame rates you are looking for, especially in multiplayer. My suggestion is to either lower your detail settings, or save up for a better card.

It's indeed very frustrating to play MP right now because of this. My machine isn't by any means top of the line, but I could still play through single player without a hitch on high settings. Step into MP and my FPS struggles to stay above 20 on the LOWEST settings. The way the multiplayer works now is not acceptable because of this terrible FPS and the fact that people with red ping playing assault destroy any enjoyment I could possibly have with multiplayer.

On the upside of things though at least we know that Relic is going to support the game with patches and free DLC. One can only hope that they go the length of letting people host dedicated servers because I REALLY want to enjoy multiplayer. I find matches quickly but as has already been stated, there are a lot of legitimate issues.
