View Full Version : End game arena sucks

Title says it all. I play the entire game like a boss, nothing can stand before me, and then I'm thrown in a f***ing arena where, unless I'm doing something wrong, surviving is impossible.

My loadout: power axe, storm bolter, melta gun. Seems impossible to deal with 12 daemons + 2 melee champions on such a confined space, + 2 psykers zapping my ass from a safe platform.

No amount of executions make up for the loss of health (not to mention these mofos only get stunned by in a sequence of 4 hits - stun of the last one). And to boot, I'm playing on normal...

Seriously, I can have either a complete cake walk or a complete rape me with sand, never complain about any. But not both, one entire game cakewalk, and then the other when I'm think "hell yeah, gonna get me some chaos lord piece of ass", just to be surprised with the buttsex.

Edit: forgot to mention how the lack of chekpoit between waves sucks even more; die = go back to first wave? Tsc, tsc...

Edit 2: with some tips which were given here, I made it through. Read more below.

I went in with melta and lascannon and although tough it was not too hard, even though I had to use my fury just pior to it. As you enter the arena there is a nice stack of cover on the left, which was important to me. First bloodletters I boltered/meleed to build up my fury, then grabbed some ammo at ran to my cover. I forget the wave order but basically if it was a space marine I lascannoned it in the head (head shots are slightly above where you think they are for instakill) and if it was a floaty wizard then I killed it as priority with lascannon headshot. For the second set of bloodletters I let them close in and bunch and then melta'd them killing 3 at a time and if the angry hammer marine got too near then I meltad them in the face. Impy Goo was the standard double tap to the head with a bolter.

Key to this was staying behind my cover, hence if the hammer marines got too near I cut my losses and meltad them as those wizards hurt you bad and also why I didn't melee the blood letters as you tend to go forward and out of cover. Grab some ammo between each wave and you should have enough melta bursts.

I stayed behind my spot of cover (like a boss), and used bullet time fury to get health and headshots. I agree it was really annoying to restart, at least the ork was checkpointed.

IIRC, the first wave is pretty straight forward. Kill the bloodletters.
When you see the psykers apear, focus on taking them down first. A charged up plasma gun shot will kill them out-right, or you could just use a lascannon. The rest of that wave should be straight forward from there.
The last part with the bloodletters and 2x champions is the hardest part. I can't remember if there are more psykers at this point. If so, one shot them with the guns mention above again.
I found that running is the key. Keep running. Always. Firstly pick off the bloodletters with nades and fire on the move. Again, plasma gun is good for this. Once the bloodletters have been dealt with, still keep moving because the champions hurt. Alot. The best way I found to take them both on was to wait until they start to swing for you and then roll out of the way (ideally not into a wall! this gets you stcuk and then dead) and then unleash the firepower. Rinse and repeat untill they are stunned/dead.

I just went with the hammer and bolter on hard, fury had never been so useful before. Just don't waste it on the first waves, in fact, save it for the last wave. I believe the waves are

Bloodletters
Renegades and Marines
Psykers and Bloodletters
Champions and BLoodletters

Right? First and 2 are obviously piece of cake, for the third, kill the Bloodletters first, then shoot the Psykers from behind cover, and for the last one just use fury. At the beginning of the second wave a group of renegades will pass through an explosive barrel on the left, shoot it to kill 3 of them instantly.

Psykers won't shoot at you if you are in the corners to the right and left of the ramp going to Nemeroth.

I'll try some of these tips, but for a game that takes proud on it's lack of cover system and stuff, it takes a lot of cover for survival. But go ahead and spoil me: after the 4th wave, is there a 5th? If not, should I make some additional preparations for Nemeroth, or is he like the Ork Warboss?

On a side note: renegades are there (suposedly) for quick health, but they're a "too hot" kind of meal, especially when massed.

There's no fight with Nemeroth.

And yes, the hype is bullshit, use cover or die.

The trick is wiping the psykers fast with a stalker or lascannon, and timing your fury with the waves of bloodletters. I died a couple times before I got the hang of it too.

Tbh, i just use plasma pistol and thunder hammer. Sat back behind cover shot the pyskers shot the damn renegade mofos that try to pew pew pew pew your shield down than go out and whopp chaos ass.

Thunderhammer and bolter here. The bloodletters will take you down pretty fast in melee even with fury active so I used it to back off, heal, and for bullet time. It's pretty much the only time I used ranged fury, in fact.

By the way, even with fury the last wave will kick your ass if you're not careful, and don't use fury as soon as the wave comes, shoot at the champions while they run towards you, try to kill or drop the shields of one before he gets to you, don't just stand there though the Bloodletters will flank you, when all shit and hell is on top of you, use fury, and roll like a madman hitting everyone with the hammer at every chance you get.

I went into the last wave with axe/storm/melta on hard and was utterly destroyed every attempt. However, switching the storm for lascannon and headshotting the primary troublemakers (champions/psykers). After they're done, it's just a matter of strategic retreats while abusing the line of sight breaking cover as a refuge against enemy ranged fire.

I also found the bloodletters laughably easy once I was able to string them out into a conga line and then facemelt them with a single meltagun shot. Once the majority of the melee is cleared up, you can take out the rest however you please. Regarding the heretic guardsmen, run up to each one and execute. I think you slap them for health like grotz unless I'm mistaken.

don't use fury as soon as the wave comes, shoot at the champions while they run towards you
Or, you know, just do use fury and insta-execute both champs. Also, bloodletters are pussies in the face of the hammer stun.

Shuma

You can insta-execute people with fury? Well golly, i did not know that. Still, i assume it'd be kind of troublesome executing one while the other is there and there's bloodletters coming from everywhere.

Neither did I Shuma, and that's how I finally finished the damn game: saved fury for the last wava and insta exected the champions asap. I'll add a sumary here for those who face the same problem.

Your Gear: power axe, melta gun and lascanon. Period.

Wave 1: bloodletters. Just back off and shoot them with bolter, dogde and run when necessary. You mst not lose shield and definitely not health here, so don't melee unless there's only one left (stun and execute this last one if you made sme mistake and lost health).

Wave 2: stay behind the bigger set of crates on the left; when renegades pass through the shield, head shot as many as you can before the chaos marines join the fray. When they do, stick to your cover and DON'T be shot by them, if the shield fails (it does FAST) so will the health and that's not an option here. Carefully eliminate all renegades, one by one, and after them, do the same to the CSM; always watch for those damn grenades. I used my plasma pistol. If some health was lost in this final confrontation with CSMs, try to execute the last one standing, but only after stunning them with shots (don't melee to stun or whatever, they'll rip the shields while you charge on them).

Wave 3: take heed to Comissar Rezail's advice, stay close to the sides of the ramp, protected from the psykers; put the melta gun in your hand and blast those bloodletters back to the warp. Don't bother using the bolter, they will dodge and close, it's better to let them walk and mass upon you. Try to maximize the number of deamon casualties per shot, as the melta has only 10 rounds and will be handy in the wave 4. After the bloodletters are gone, make a run for your trusty cover; psykers will zap you in the ass, but not kill you one can hope to get there withou losing health, but it's hard. Carefuly gun them down wiith the lascanon, one at a time (mofos take two shots each, I call it imba ¬¬).

Wave 4: here comes the @%#$*@&# chaos champions... luckly, they pass throgh the shield before the bloodletters, so you'll kick their ass first. Hit Fury, insta execute both (if you can do it with them in line, one will not hit you due to being blocked from you while his bro is executed, but I guess I was lucky on this) and back off, they Fury will be gone after these 2 executions, so you'll have to kite the bloodletters like in wave 1. If your melta gun still has amno/charges, use then to dispatch them quickly (I got here with 4 shots left), if not just go the bolter way. Finish the last one or two in melee if you have full shield and health.

@Shuma sorta... "lied"; you "fight" Nemeroth after this, but it's a piece of cake, just pay attention to what must be done. Thanks for not spoilig me even when I asked for it Shuma, the surprise itself was kind of good. I liked the ending, too, can't ask more than that for a hack and slash game.

Right, right, i "lied", yeah, hah, that's what i did. Just being a good citizen, just trying to get people to experience the awesome boss fight with Nemeroth unspoiled, yep, that's what i did.

Hahahahaha, I saw your posts (and Gorb's, too) in the other thread, arguing about QTE x real fight, so I understand what you mean; sorry for saying you lied, I didn't see that topic when I said you "lied to preserve my boss fight". In your honor, I edited my post to change lied and fight for "lied" and "fight".

And I kind of agree with you on the QTE x RF, but let's not derail this one.

Hope people like my little "guide".

I managed to get this fight right on hard with power axe/lascanon/melta like on a third try.

Mostly stayed behind the cover on the left.

1. Renegades - mow down with botler, CSM - lascanon to the head. Stay behind cover.
2. Heretics - predict their spawn positions with your aim and headshot one with lascanon immediately, it is easy. With utmost urgency move and headshot second one. Bloodletters run and gun with bolter or melee, fury if you fail with your melee.
3. When champions spawn and just first one passes out of the shied hit ranged fury and take him down with 2-3 lascanon shots to the head. Now the hardest part - run and gun remaining bloodletters and champion with melta, requires a lot of running but doable.

I've had 3 fury activations during this fight.

Doing this on hard with thunderhammer setup is quite challenging I think. Late game heavily favors lascanon headshots.

Use the douchebag route I used on the hardest setting the first time through. Grab lascannon and Melta. Load up on ammo and camp the boxes in the back of the battlefield, popping out only to blast the Marines and Heretic Psykers in the face with the Lascannon. Melta to handle Daemons. Fury to execute champions. Bolter kills Heretics. Fun for the whole family.

I finally managed with Melta / Plasma / Axe and just kiting the champions with the Plasma gun, saving my Fury as I figured I would need it later. The second wave was the roughest for me with the amount of incoming fire melting armor in no time. Next time I play through (on Hard) I will likely go with the Lascannon instead of Plasma as suggested here.

My gear set up for this fight on Normal was:

Chain sword
Melta
Vengeance launcher (seriously, dunno why people rag on this gun it is EPIC):

The first wave of bloodletters I just wait until they're all bunched up and then double melta shot them, usually killing them all in the second salvo. Finished off the last one with my chainsword.

The second wave, with those bloody renegades who annoy the shit out of me, was defeated by use of vengeance launcher (land the rounds on the ramp to kill the renegades) while using bolter and chainsword on any left overs.

Third wave again I raped the bloodletters with my melta gun and then nailed the psykers with my vengeance launcher (2 rounds kill a psyker)

Wave four I just waited until everyone got close then unleashed fury and annihilated everyone rather quickly.

Tried TH thirst but it doesn't quite work, since you need some ranged firepower here. My cleared loadout was Power Axe and Storm Bolter, a Lascannon can be handy.

Wave 1: Just melee them to death. 3-chain, dodge and repeat. If you lose health, leave a single Bloodletter to execute.
Wave 2: Use BOLTER to gun down individual Guardsmen (take cover all the time), and you can keep firing at CSMs in the face with it if you can hide properly (or a Lascannon shot will do). Lone Guardsman can simply be executed------your main trouble will be CSMs here. If Bolter doesn't work, melee those CSMs.
Wave 3: This is tricky. Bloodletters will swarm you soon, and you can't risk being exposed to Daemonhosts. Either use Lascannon to snipe them out or just hide from blind spots (I hide from the left-bottom area for most of the time) where Daemonhosts can't shoot you, and melee all those Bloodletters first.
Wave 4: Pull out your Storm Bolter and unload all your clips on BLs first once they get close (so that you can still hit them even they teleport). You'll want to kill all BLs first so that (if you got Fury) the two champs can be killed with leisure.
