Given how popular the first "Amnesia" title was with some folks, I'm surprised that nobody's posted about this yet.
Anywho, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs isn't a direct sequel to Amnesia: The Dark Descent, but they take place in the same universe. Machine is set in 1899 and follows the story of a wealthy industrialist who is stricken with a fever following an expedition in Mexico that ended in tragedy. Falling into a coma, an infernal machine roars to life when he awakens.
Thechineseroom (the creators of Dear Esther) is developing Machine, with Frictional Games serving as producer this time around.

I never actually finished playing the first one because i just became so anxious while playing it at night. I dont know what it was about it, but i was always just really on edge, which has never happened to me before while playing a horror game... ive been planning to finish it soon though xD
But ill defiently be getting that considering how good Dark Descent is (it really is damn creepy and does a great job at getting you into the game i found)

I would say I was too scared to finish the first one, but I know no fear, so there's probably some other reason :). The first game was atmospheric as hell, the sounds really immersed you, probably won't get this one though, the games are definitely frightening (though I heard you get used to the way monsters spawn after a while) but not in the way I find fun.

I think that it's really telling of a horror game that it can actually be frightening in ways that people don't enjoy. Might not be the best for the "game" part of it, but it shows that the really nailed the "horror" aspect.
I haven't finished the original yet (though in my case it's due to a lack of time and spending that time on other options that I bought during the same Steam sale) but what I've played certainly beats the hell out of the atmosphere that they try to create in most "horror" games. I just hope that bringing in a new developer for the game doesn't have a negative effect on that atmosphere.
I finally started playing Amnesia TDD tonight... okay, nothing has even happened, and I'm already scared.
I better watch Legend of Korra again before I go to sleep. That should help...

All I've seen from this developer is the Dear Esther mod, not exactly a reason to make one excited over this news. Had some hopes that the Frictional involvement would compensate, but it looks like they're basically licensing the name while they work on their next game.
Amnesia came out of left field to me, maybe that's why I enjoyed it so greatly. I fear I won't be able to squelch all expectations of the sequel due to its heritage, still hoping for a pleasant surprise though.

I didn't even reach the first monster before I was terrified and had to turn it off. Game time is like 15 minutes and all I've done is open a few doors and walk a few corridors. I'll get the next one once I finally finish The Dark Descent I guess. :)
What really terrified me from the first moment was I clicked on "Justine" instead of "Launch Game" after it was installed. I had no idea what was going on.
Imagine diving straight into the "challenge" expansion before you even played the game proper (with the tutorial hints helping you get started), and not realizing that's what you just did.
Talk about 4th-wall terror. Games should do this intentionally to me, more often. Only example I can think of is Psycho Mantis (MGS). Nothing scarier than loss of real life control.

@ Machine For Pigs:
The new game's art style seems... stylized. Almost like the old point-n-click adventures graphics. Umm... that's not scary.
