Creating a new thread because the game has had some noticeable changes.

A new summer patch comes with lots of changes.

The biggest change is the fact that empire points (which you earn in-game) can be used to buy premium civs and booster packs.

Alliances allow for more end game content from level 40 provide additional quests and rewards.

The tech tree changes allow for more decision making in game rather than outside it.

Champion mode PVP means anyone can PVP from level 1 as gear and advisors make no difference to the game. I have played the PVP and it is quite dynamic and requires quick decision making.

Personally, the recent updates have made the game a less of a grind (while still there) but not as bad and the most recent civ, the celts, are very fun to play. Hammer throwing stone thrower ftw!

The game is also on steam for those who don’t like GFWL.

You can see all changes in the recent summer patch here

*GASP* is it true, does my eyes deceive me. Perhaps I'm a fool among fools, to believe, but it is .. it is really true. Emperor bless you Commando for this news.

This Champion Mode sounds interesting. My major gripe with this game was that if you wanted to PVP (which is all I really wanted to do) you had to unlock your basic tech tree and even if you did that it was still pay to win so it wouldn't have been fun anyway. I might download this again to check it out.

Well, I already figure there was a catch to the Empire point thing, however the missions that give Empire points give like 4-12 points at times. Then they are extremely hard, I mean they are ass whopping challenge. I mean , I like a challenge but jeez that is hard. It probably take me a month to get 400 Empire points to get around 900 Empire points to unlock Greece.

Just played for a bit with the new patch, haven't played for a couple of months before now. Quite the overhaul, especially to the tech tree, and the implementation of vanity items is quite fun - many of my greek units now sport samurai gear.
The campion mode PvP has been there for quite a while now, and is a necessity for online play. I doubt I will get back to playing PvP though, especially now with the huge patch changes, but I recommend it for those who are interested. It's pretty close to AoE2 in playstyle, which is a huge plus in my book, but with lots of added finesses.

Also, I got the impression you can buy Empire Points for in game gold? I have 16k in the bank, guess I can spend them on something.

The AI is a known issue. Gas powered games adjusted the AI to make the higher-end quests feel more fresh but broke the low level ones. They said they wil have a fix for it.

So far i have made 46 empire points from the Alliances thing so far patch is good the tech tree changes are awesome and noticed myself using (in quests) a mixture of units now in order to win which is great.
