View Full Version : Personal Avatars Out of Control?

Only Forum Admins may grant a custom Avatar and then only to long standing members of the community. OK, reading that from the rulez, there is no limit on frequency when granting personal avatars. Well, I think there should be. At least understated among the Forum Staff, if not spelled out.

Some boardies have changed avatar pretty frequently the last month or so.
It is not always clear whether they are Moderators or not.
I think that goes against the idea of being granted a personal avatar for long lasting "services". If personal avatars are changed too frequently, this may be observed and the "reward feeling" of getting a personal avatar, undermined.

On the other hand, changing Personal Avatar (frequently or at all) may be a privilege of Mods/Admins and not to be questioned. That is then to be respected, but it may need to be clarified. Many just see an Avatar that is not publicly available, changed in to another.

Dyntheos' change of avatar was a real happening. I wish for other Mods to contribute to that feeling.

lol i wondered what happened to the personal Avatars, I reckon I was away travelling just too long, my login was wiped in the last purge.

But the point is I agree, makes it more noticeable when there are only a few long standing members with the personal avatars.

Mods and admins can change thier avatars and titles when they wish. CJ for example tends to change his weekly. That's his choice though, the lack of recognition due to this is his problem to deal with.

There are also a few members that have this privilege as well. Some even though they have this option do not choose to use it.

Then we have a group of members that have been given a new title or avatar, yet do not have the ability to change them.

Alot of members do have personal avatars because this board is about 5 years old, and many members with an avatar or title have been here for at least 2 years, so we have a lot of members with them.

Hope this clarifies things.

ceejay is an avatar whore, we all know this.

Personally I find the occasional title change quite sufficient...

I like my many avatars. It keeps the newbies on their toes - they can't just see my avatar and know to be nice. :p

p.s. the many avatar changes recently were the doing of Dyn, not me

recently being yesterday for about 30 minutes when cj had britney as his avatar without the ability to change it. hence cj's new title

After initially getting a, as it seems, "hasty" reply from deadguy I went through my writing a bit and reformulated some. Not that it was insulting or anything, but he clearly reacted to some of it.

This is of course not a big issue, but it goes with the "image" of the forum and its Moderators.

I put to You the deletion of this thread, since I only wanted to bring the matter to the attention of you, and I really dont think it does any real good being posted here for too long.

(I add that Ceejay strongly contributed to me posting this in the first place, but, as it is, Moderators privileges are obscure to us mortals...:D )

I am afraid that CJs av will be changed to a picture of Jen in the near future.

PS Homy, you can change your av as often as you like, why shouldn't people with custom avs be able to do it.

In answer to Moe :

It depends :
1. Are they granted the ability to choose avatar freely? Just like Mods?
or
2. Are they granted to select *one* image as avatar?
or
3. Are they forced to accept a given image as avatar? For any reason Forum Staff see fit.

According to Dyntheos, the 1 and 2 categories exists. The 3, I dont know.

In a thread a while ago there was some joking about this, and I remember in particular that a member had been given the title "administrative burden". That was fun! And, I assume, well deserved. Why should that member be able to change a given title?
Same with personal avatars. IMO.

That would be Krogoth.

Custom title, custom avatar, not a Mod (?)....

" - You wouldnt be able to change any of those without asking a Mod, now would you?"
" - Say, how did it felt when you were granted the custom avatar?"
" - Was it in relation to any mayor event, or just for holding out as time went by?"
" - What was your reaction to the title?"
" - Do you feel repressed, discriminated or unjustly treated?"
" - Do you plan to take legal action?"

Category 3 definately exists. This place would be a whole lot less amusing without it.

Krogoth asked for his title, it was not given to him. Meaning he chose it.

Homdax

Meaning me Mac_Bug?

I hereby solemnly swear upon my keyboard that that is not the case.
But I like how this thread goes on.
Proves You are a great bunch o guys!

(Eventually, my title and avatar will be given to me, I will not ask for them. But I better find out someway to deserve them, besides jiddering around like this. Only been active for 8 months anyways...)

hmmm, I'm thinking Ill regularly change my avatar, but that it should always have a certain easilly recognisable feature...

how to go about this...

Moe
24th May 04, 9:42 AM
Hmm... I dunno... maybe the word "Vijil" above the Avatar gives the rest of us a clue as to who you are?

Anyone else thing 'ignus' whenever they see Langy post, seeing how he's using Ignus's old (years old) avatar? Or is mine the only memory stretching back that far.
