TRAILER IS UP!! Don't know if it is up at any other websites. It's not up over at the official game website. Go here (http://media.pc.ign.com/media/620/620554/vids_1.html) to view it. If you don't have an insider account then you can only view the low quality Windows Media Player version. Also they have a new render of what appears to be an Ork Warboss.
The video is absolutely amazing with opera music playing in the background. The one part of it that impressed me the most was seeing the Force Commander on top of the Blood Thirstier and giving it the beat down. It brought back memories of watching The Fellowship of the Ring when the hobbits are on top of the troll, and then when the Force Commander jumps down and uses the killing move. I can't believe this is an RTS with all that detail. Seeing the Marines lift off and take flight and is really amazing as well. Watching the Eldar's Howling Banshees head dress sway in the wind is wonderful. Congrats Relic on an amazing trailer.

i posted this in the video sticky.
but, it is an amazing trailer. seeing the space marines praying, the music, the hand to hand slo-mos, the force commander fighting the blood thirster....all of it, brilliant.
cobra, over 60% of that trailer is new.

Yep, that looks more like an Official Trailer to me. VERY NICE! Nothing new in terms of units, but a few flashy moves (Warp Spider, hehe) and a very eerie feeling watching all the death to that music. :D

NICE! finally something 'official'. I LOVE the finishing moves of the warp spiders infact.... i love EVERYTHING in that vid!! this is all i will comment about the animations: looks like there is some more tweaking to do. but it looks awesome!
Looks very nice.
Though I do have one question on my mind. Why isn't there a games workshop or relic logo at the end?

What do you know, it does turn into a Dreadnaught Close Combat Weapon (:
Still with the music.... now THAT is Warhammer 40,000 (:
I like the assault squad taking off, that looked cool for some reason (:
Hmm analyze it frame by frame and you notice a lot of oddities. Like when the ork kills the marine by chopping him sideways, he uses an Axe to kill, and then it switches to an entirely different scene with an ork using a more sword-like choppa to show the result of the kill. Hehe (:

Yup, *finally* the official trailer is out and about, and can replace all those other 'official' trailers.
Glad you guys like what you see! It took a lot of hard work from a lot of people at both THQ and Relic to make this thing, and I think the results speak for themselves. :)

Seeing a Warpspider using matrix moves on a Chaos cultist was way cool! But seeing the Force Commander put the Holy smackdown on that Bloodthirster up close like that just gave me goosebumps...
If the trailer is anything to go by, this game is a thing of beauty! In all my years of gaming, I can safely say that I have seldom been so psyched up for a game release. Keep up the good work, Relic!

It wasn't buggy, and wasn't mixing pre-Alpha content (if that) with relatively new content like the HW2 trailer. It blended in nicely.
Maybe because it's a different style of game. In any case, good work on this one.

You can download the low quality wmv file.
I'd be really happy if relic could host the high quality files on the dawn of war homepage!
I must admit, even though the game is based on the warhammer 40k universe and not the table top game, i'm hoping games workshop will introduce the changing dreadnought weapons on the fly aspect of the game!
On a more serious note, is it possible that the dreadnought was being upgraded and just happened to change its weapon loadout at that time? Or are vehicles unlike infantry and need to be taken back to a 'weapons factory' (for want of the actual name) before they can have their loadouts changed? Or can vehicles not have their loadouts changed at all?
The more I see/hear about this game the more I want to be able to play it. However, Relic, if you could hold off the release of the demo until after the 15th or so of July that would be good. I have my end of session exams coming up and I don't think i'm strong willed enough to study when i could be playing the demo!

:ds: Wowzers :jaw: After all the massive flops that have been attempts to turn the table top game into a main stream video game, it looks like Relic might have the balls to actually pull it off. Man of the match to that Warp Spider kicking the heresy out of the cultist :matrix: . (i wanna see em warp jump now guys.) Oh and er.. the Marine Captain did an ok job against that Blood Thirster.
We are not worthy  but i'll be advance ordering the game anyways

Ahh, this is a little bit better than the other footage,The sounds were perfect like the marines cocking their bolters to the orks roaring. the music was totaly isync with the 40K universe(no screaming techno or whatever). and a nice close up of the inquisitor/force commander smashing some deamon skull. I want this to win some oscars.

Nice trailer.. But now the whole thing just makes me feel even more as a Cartoon. apparently it has to do with the graphics engine, as it lacks the dark metal T&L found in so many serious games.
In addition the game is a bit too fast paced. Guns just fire at a cartoonish unreal speed.
looks like a nice game though.

Are you serious Ilia1986?
Have you seen a REAL LIFE machine gun in action? Its "pace" is too fast for your eyes to follow. Most previous RTS has always reloaded in slow motion, taken the realistic reload of ammo in the chamber.
That said - this is a futuristic RTS, and now I'm not just talking about 2010, but the year 40,000. Wouldn't the weapons be able to reload ammo MUCH faster than even the most advanced contemporary machine guns?
If you were to complain abt weapon "pace" - it would be that the pace is way too slow... But then again - all other RTS are too.
Maximus Decimus
29th May 04, 9:46 AM
Ilia that made me laugh.
Anyway I was wondering if the space marine prayer is scripted, would be cool if it wasn't.
Awesome trailer, at around 35-36 seconds you can spot a marine at the top(center, on hill) holding a plasma cannon I believe.
I don't know why people think this is cartoonish like warcraft(has been mentioned). Cartoonish is having graphics like warcraft(traingular hands, etc) and making everything nice and bright. This involves alot of gore and is not "bright" like the warcraft series when it comes to terrain, if your complaining about colors on soldiers then you can change them to black if you wish. I guess you can call patriot games/and the era itself cartoonish too since they wear bright uniform colors.
EDIT: So you think this Screenshot (http://wh40k.mednickonline.com/images/ss/bogd.jpg) is cartoonish? I think not.
ilia1986
29th May 04, 10:15 AM
Uber, Hybris, if you look at the speed the laser shots come from his gun, it DOES seem very very cartoonish. Just look at what happens from Second 33 and on. Im not sure however that itsn not fast forward or something, though...
Maybe the guns dont fire too fast, but still.... The Whole game just looks as if someone has turned the Anime shader on all the way...
Too few dark places, too much light, too bright colours. I mean.. if theres only war in the 41st century where are the bulding ruins? why theres still sunshine? Just look at the main menu of GC2 (cant get this game out of my mind). Now thats what I call serious atmosphere, and not a cartoon.
Maximus Decimus
29th May 04, 10:20 AM
lol! really? you think this screenshot (http://wh40k.mednickonline.com/images/ss/bogd.jpg) is cartoonish? I would disagree.
Now you are talking about eldar technology, I guess you must think that the 40k universe is cartoonish. Another thing the devs have slowed down and sped up the game in videos, whos to say they didn't this time?
ilia1986

Ok, After seeing thsi game in person i can safely say that there is nothing cartoonish about it. And as far as your ruined buildings go, that's all i saw on the maps they were playing. Space marines are supposed to be bright in color, it's all part of that "They shall know no fear" thing. And Orks are green they will always be green =)

altered superhuman soldiers that are 8 feet tall in power armor, fighting against wave after wave of ruthless enemies, heretics, demons, and armament isnt serious enough for you?
ive played the GC2 demo and it is alot of fun, but theres alot to be desired from the camera snd few other aspects. the whole time i played the demo i kept thinking of dow though and how itll be using a system along the same lines in terms of resources, drop ships, and always being on the frontline, etc.
i have yet to see anything cartoony about this game. hell, you could say that CnC generals is cartoony because of the infantry models, the goofy voices, etc.
bear in mind, youve played GC2, you havent played DoW, so you dont know what could happen.

erm. i dunno about you, but id imagine that in a massive battle, things would get pretty frantic. if you watch an INDIVIDUAL soldier fighting, its nothing you wouldnt expect (considering theres basically no-one in the game aside from cultists who wouldnt be quite adept up to highly trained in close combat)
machine guns blaze rapidly. as they are MACHINE GUNS. and if your thinking "well real troopers fire in short controlled bursts to counter recoil" perhaps a 8 foot tall supersoldier has the strength to keep a rapid firing bolter on target?
and... erm.
what lasers?
i see no lasers.
tracers, yes.
the ONE thing that bugged me was how all the assault marines took off in perfect time :P
but other than that, man! its 40k!
thought : its not that its cartoonish, its that its exagerated. and it wouldnt BE 40k any other way!

OK if your gonna critique models like that then you have to say GC2 has cartoony models, have you seen the terran legionaire? that model sucks and would appears more cartoony than any other model in DoW. On the Space Marine model I do have to say that the thighs are a bit slim, space marine armor is almost exactly as shown in the banner.
ilia1986
29th May 04, 9:14 PM
Max, have you looked at the main menu of GC2? Walking robots which are mre realisitc than the Dreads, plasma bursts which fire at an acceptable speed, building ruins, NO SUNSHINE? Now thats an immersing setting!
Add that the fact that you are a lone commander trying to hold of a hot chick in red clothes from taking over your home planet with the empire under her command, and you have an even greater setting for an RTS game.
Look.. whatever, guys. Ilia thinks the game models are too cartoonish for his taste, and other people don't. So lets leave it at that & move on, yea?
You can't argue about an aesthetic opinion (because it is just that: an opinion) & this is getting very repetitive.

Did anyone catch the faces of those Eldar Dark Reapers? Now that's creepy - and to think that the minitures from the TT version are like that as well.
Though it might seem cartoonish to certain people, the simple fact is that is what the units look like from the TT game. The important point to remember is that Relic cares so much about the Warhammer 40k universe that they're going to such extraordinary lengths to make sure that EVERY UNIT looks and functions just right! This level of devotion to quality seems to be rare in the gaming industry these days - but it's good to know Relic is the exception to that rule :)
I for one am totally stoked and can't wait to play this game!
Maximus Decimus
29th May 04, 10:49 PM
I'm curious how is a terran walker more realistic than a dreadnought? a walker is more vulnerable, is a bigger target, and by physics should have a tough time keeping balance in combat. You might want to note the dull terrain and buildings that don't totally connect to the terrain in GC2 as well.
Add that the fact that you are a lone commander trying to hold of a hot chick in red clothes from taking over your home planet with the empire under her command, and you have an even greater setting for an RTS game.
Add the fact that you don't even know the story line of DoW except that it involves treason and conspiracy(much more interesting than the cliche end of the world scenario).

I'm sure hoping that they will do a disappearing animation for the drop pods. Because now - they are just vanishing very unrealistic.
It would be easy to make them disappear in a way so that they folded down themselves towards the ground at first....
Retroboy
30th May 04, 6:16 PM
If you watch the gameplay videos, you'll also see corpses fading out too. I think it's Relic's general way of keeping the framerate down, 'cause there's gonna be LOTS of bodies and wreckage kicking about unless something is done to reduce the polys. Another way I've seen is to have the "dead" object slide below the surface of the world, but that's just as unrealistic in a way.
I loved the trailer. The operatic music fit perfectly, there was a good taste of the various forces and unit types, and some of the "special moves" were incredible. The bit I wanted to see is the "what comes next" from a distance when the forces were rushing in on each other in the middle of the film - second 29 or so.
Well done, THreliQ. ;)

31st May 04, 8:30 AM
Exactly, I feel it detracts from the cinematic experience for some things such as drop pods to disappear. I can cope with corpses disappearing fairly quickly but I'd like drop pods to stay for quite a while anyway. Makes for good cover and simply looks much much better.
Canadian_F_H

the tanks fade??? um maybe they should blow a part alittle more i dont want to see a 60 ton chunk of metal "fade" away.
ÜberJumper
31st May 04, 11:57 AM
The problem with leaving behind 3d objects (wreckage) behind is that it can clog up the game as it now has to track and display those objects. Basically you want those extra polys gone ASAP. With DoW I imagine this will be a big problem as dead units will be piling up pretty quickly.
Be nice if they had an ini setting that people could use in SP or Skirmish to allow the bodies to actually pile up though.
Niklas
31st May 04, 12:34 PM
Uber, I agree with that to a certain extent.
But some things just destroy the atmosphere for me if they disappear almost as soon as they die. Like tanks or drop-pods.
Corpses I can cope with disappearing quickly with no problem.
ÜberJumper
31st May 04, 12:40 PM
The other problem for tanks and drop-pods disapearing quickly is if they stayed there, there'd be more and more bullets flying through them (as we know that there's no check for units firing through other units) to hit their targets. I think that would ruin the effect more than having them go away.
Niklas
31st May 04, 12:48 PM
(as we know that there's no check for units firing through other units)
Hmm, fair point. How about changing their type to 'landscape' as soon as they die (for tanks and drop pods anyway)? I did think they said Cover was in and so perhaps they could be used in that way.
Or I could be talking out of my ass. I don't know :dunce:

i think they should collapse or fold onto themselves, then fade. i don't have problems with a unit fading out, its just that drop pods are damn tall. its like seeing a hut disappearing into thin air. tanks are big, but they're not really tall, so them fading out doesn't look as silly as this huge drop pod vanishing. other tall units like avatars and thirsters fall to the ground, burn up or get sucked into the warp. the pod is the only troublechild imo.

Hmm, also a fair point Dimension.
I do know that the drop pod simply disappearing was basically the only thing which really annoyed me about the gameplay video. Otherwise it was all good :D

There is a perfectly logical explanation for this, in a way the tanks actually do "fade away and die", you see, they rust to dust really freaking fast in these environments. Furthermore the nature has gotten used to war and the microorganisms have adapted and evolved so they can now break down even the most robust of panzer plate (word has it that they find it quite tasty to)...;)
Niklas- "Hmm, fair point. How about changing their type to 'landscape' as soon as they die (for tanks and drop pods anyway)?"
I don't think that would be an easy thing to do. If you started to do such a thing the computer would have to alter the huge 3d object that the world is comprised of each and every time a unit perished. The world object would then consist of more and more polygons as the time went by and you had to make collision detections for a structure who's complexity keep on increasing...

I would like to see a clientside variable that would determine how long corpses would stay. That way, if you want the bodies to stick around a little longer you can extend the corpse stay value to something higher but you might take a performance hit.

That's why I mentioned a client side variable for SP or Skirmish mode. You don't want one person in MP with a slow computer setting the limit so high that the game lags out because his system can't keep up. That, would, suck.
