One thing that I've noticed about this forum is that you can't get enought 40K fluff. So here's an interesting one for you guys, I found this web site that explains everything about what makes a Space Marine so ''special''. I even noticed that this same site has been used in a thread for its detailed 40K timeline.

http://www.criticalhit.co.uk/w40krp/WD098_Space_Marine_Implants.shtml

It says at the top that the source is WD number 98, but the exact same article can be found in WD number 249.

Enjoy.

And just for laughs if you could have any one SM implant which one would it be.

I would have to say Phase 6 - Catalepsean Node. I mean how useful would this be for college finals I could stay up all night studying.

*grins* Yeah, having a few implants would DEFINITELY be enjoyable. Hehe. Probably painful to get the buggers though.

That website is AWESOME for any fluff buffs more or less. I'm STILL reading lots of the stuff there.

Course, then we'd be all l337 and stuff... :sprint: *ZOOM!*

You are blessed to have not encountered it before.

I'd go for the Oolitic Kidney.
Our kidneys are very sensitive to damage and quite hard to replace.
Folks, please drink lots of water (no soda or other crap and definitely not only coffee in raw amounts), your kidneys will thank you for it.

I always wondered what genius thought that the mariens should have a "solid" ribcage. You don't have to hate a doctorate to know how useless and counter-productive that would be.

And I'll take Phase 2, sans solid ribcage.

12th Jun 04, 3:39 PM
You wouldn't want an ossified rib cage, it'd kill you. But this information is also available in its newest form in Index Astartes.

Sadly, the reason I went to this thread was because of its misleading title.

Very nice link indeed :D

Nice find on the link!

It's just a shame they don't update that site much with any new information tho, there's still so much of the WH40k universe left unexplained *Sigh*

Well that was kinda cool but the best link i got out of this thread was Triceron's Sig, i know what im making my new homepage.
FOR THE GREATER GOOD!

thanks for the info man, seriously.

reading the Space Wolf series made me want to know more about the makings of a Space Marine... but im curious as how the person that made the website know all this info.. there a book on "How to make your own Space Marine"????

How to make a space marine in 20 easy steps...

I believe its in your local bookstore ;)

Making a marine in 20 steps is indeed a good title.

But seriously, the way to "make" a Space Marine is explained in the first book of the Index Astartes.

And for the implants: I think I'll go for the second heart. Could be fun when the doctor wants to check your heartbeat. :bandit:

Bah, I'd take "STC for Dummies" over "Making a Space Marine in 20 Easy Steps" any day.

The multi lung, always wanted to breathe underwater

The Dark Angel

I'd go for the multi-lung too. The Biscopea is nontheless tempting. (I'm generally not a Schwarzenegger type)

I'll take the second heart. Never hurts to have redundant systems, especially of an organ as vital as a heart.

The source is indicated at the top of the website (White Dwarf number 98) which need I say is way old, written by some guy named Rick Priestley. I guess he would have been the first guy to come with the concept of all the Space Marine implants.

As for the problem of the fused ribcage I imagine the fusing only being between each rib above and below it. And not at the vital parts where the cartillage allows for expanding room when we breathe. Or else those Space Marine wouldn't be much good to the Imperium now would they.

Rick Priestley and Gav Thorpe are minor gods. I believe that Mr. Priestley is the originator of the 40k mythos, although John Blanche contributed significantly. Many of the parallels between the Catholic Church and the Imperium are the result of John Blanche' religious background.

Captain Zog

Yeah the fused ribcage must be more flexible than we are thinking, very tough though

Noir

Making Space Marines seems to be small stuff to me,I'd rather focus on more challenging ideas...like implantation for Female Space Marines.

:p

(yes...I know it's impossible)

And let us not forget His Highness Andy Chambers, He who shall forever be the original 40k Overfiend...

As for implants, I'd have to be torn between two.

Either:
Phase 3 - Biscopea. The ladies will really love all that muscle :) ;)

Or:
Phase 6 - Catalepsean Node. Would sure as hell increase my survivability in several of my classes...how handy would it be in college after a wild night?

Its late so i cant be bothered to dig it up, ill post here 2moro, but there is a WD detailing all the SM implants and when they are implanted.

If i could have one, it would either be the sus-an node, so i dont need to sleep and can do more stuff, or a Black Carapace.

:D

Give me all your money. *hands money* thanx chump *bang* WHAT THE!? me: Ill be having my wallet back then..chummmm-p

Ahhhh... i could be like superman, without any super powers...

Ordinary_Story

@EspiOn : No need to dig up the WD I already posted a link to a site that has info on all the implants.

Kaelorr
14th Jun 04, 6:50 AM
The Black Carapace seems to serve little purpose other than providing a link for the Armor. Sure it makes a person a little more durable, but it's only plastic. Imagine the slicing to get that installed...:yech:

NjalStormcall

All that effort to get that +1 T and +1 S, eh?

BlackTemplar
14th Jun 04, 9:45 AM
Hahaha,

If you want a good example of how bad-ass space marines are, check out their stats in the Inquisitor TT and compare them to a, say, Inquistor or IG veteran

DarthFelth
14th Jun 04, 9:49 AM
i always thought marine organs grew, not all that much slicing ;)

ShadeDancer
14th Jun 04, 12:06 PM
I'd have to go for the multi-lung- who needs scuba gear!

azmodean
14th Jun 04, 12:44 PM
Multi-lung, definitely.

Actually I have the same info (in a much less polished form) in a very early codex imperialis (combination codex that had a ~3 page army list for each race in the game) That's right, everything from orks to tyranids, space marines to squats, eldar to chaos. (no necrons or tau though, they weren't around yet)

Nope lots of slicing involved that's why the majority of new Space Marine recruits don't even make it past the implantation period.

Worst of all most of the steps require the marine to be conscious during the operation, no anesthetic. :argh: No wonder these guys are so tough.

DarthFelth
14th Jun 04, 3:30 PM
yeah my mistake i forgot the geneseed was more required to help the growth of the organs, opps i kinda forgot how they got into the marine, ohh well, hehe

Man...

Space Marines... The elite of the elite of the Imperium's forces. So rare are they that there is probably one marine for every 100 worlds, 1 marine in every 5 million/billion people. Each marine with implanted organs that probably takes years to grow and develop, and taking a course of years to implement... Using organs with such rare and careful technology that will never be seen by any regular army shmoe of the regular Imperial Guard... This is how precious are these organs are to the Imperium...

Then we see chapters like the Iron Hands with entire legion changing their bodies to mechanical pieces. What's up with that??!

On second thoughts, some Grey Knight gene seed couldn't hurt...

Yeah I never got what the deal is with them, the fluff refers to some sort of mutation that makes them constantly insecure with their own strengh, thus always enhancing their bodies with artificial elements.

Still seems like a waste of good organs to turn themselves into robots.

Indeed, that would probably be the way I would go.

If I had to choose an implant though the Omophagea would certainly be interesting. Imagine adapting the instincts of various animals; sure way to make you a survivor.

In the first book Space Wolf of the Space Wolf series gives insight about the early days of strife and turmoil for a new recruit in the chapter Space Wolfs. It is a very interesing read for all those who want to know more about the process "first hand". The transformation of normal human to a space marine is not a pleasant one. Guys check out this techmarine for 4th edtion "crazy arms" :spin: hes huge.http://us.games-workshop.com/news/sneakpeek/40K/image1.jpg

KingKupo

It's quite normal for any techmarine to replace bodyparts with bionic hands to better feel the 'machine spirit'.

The Iron hands detest any and all weakness. To them the flesh is weak so they often replace parts with bionics/implants. It is a blessing for them to be given a bionical arm/leg. There even was a iron father named Paullian Blantar who replaced his entire body, except his brain.

An Iron warrior with terminator armour is often seen leading a tactical sqaud. It is said the armour is even permanently attached to him. dreadnoughts are about the most holiest thing the iron hands can think of so it is said they are the commanders of their force.

Yes, the transformation of a man into the Space Wolf is probably one of the most painful ascensions for any Marine Chapter. I can only imagine the Blood Angel ascension to be more draining - what could it be like to die a million times, knowing each time that you are doomed?
