OoOOooooOOoo cool a good look at the customizing screen :D
Those poor ork buildings are getting womped on :smash:
*edit*
.....and if I'm looking at it correctly it would seem you can set colors to each unit and not just the overall army itself, unless its just letting you preview each unit with your overall color set-up?

Nice detail, "Citadel Paints" in the color picker!! :-D

Gorgeous.
I'm excited about the customization screen as well, especially if that nifty little dropdown at the bottom center allows you to change the colors for each unit. :)
I feel I should complain, as they're using "color" instead of "colour", but it's damn too pretty, so I won't.

I Want Orks With Pink Skin!!!!
Oh bugger, here we go again. :D
Man, the colour customiasation screen looks great - it's everything I hoped for, and nothing like WC3's simple 'scroll down a choose one of the 10 different colours' system.
I'm still wondering if the Orks' skin colour can be customised. It is my strong opinion that they shouldn't be able to change that. It would be SOOO anti-fluff. Ok, you can paint power armour or mesh armour, but you can't dye a creature's skin. Well, you could, but they wouldn't.
Maybe for the Orks they just have a scale of viable skin colours? Like Goblin Green to a darker shades of green.

Good screens, favourite one has to be the unit colour customization screen. One thing I didn't like about the librarian is that the top part of his psychich hood is too high, it should be lowered.

A dev said that there's only one scheme for the whole army. Individual units cannot be customized.

Can we get a confirmation of sorts on whether the unit selection thing at the bottom is to preview or change the scheme on each unit?
The button at the bottom even says:
"Select unit to preview"
PREVIEW - ok? So you can see what your other units look like with your selected colour scheme.
Also, Jay Wilson himself has said in SO many previous threads that you cannot customise individual squads, only your army as a whole.
If you don't believe me, then you can go and search for previous threads which state so.

Not that I don't believe you or anything, but could you refer me to anything that says this? As has been pointed out... the text right above the select box says "select unit to preview." What more do you need?

Check out the muzzle flares comming off that Land Speeder! Wow... so that's what a TL-HB and a TL-Ass Cannon looks like when going nuts. Crazy!
And notice the option menue for "Citadel Paints". Did Relic include approximations of actual Citadel colours to allow you to do up your own chapters as close to the real models as possible? If so, that's awesome!!! It's little details like that that make a game go beyond "good" and become "great".

Actually this was one of the first questions that came into my mind when looking at the screen. I guess we Dark Angel Players have to deal with it. ( See, no moaning here... :weep: )

so this the Librarian huh??? Im not thrilled about his image to be honest... His "helmet" looks out of place for a space marine. Where is his huge Librarian book, possibly the Blood Raven's Codex attached to his power armor? I do like his power axe, which does fit his role. But im thinking Relic should add a cloth cloak or hooded cloak like the one EZEKIEL of the Dark Angels has on. They just look cool and give off a "Librarian" feeling..haha. http://store.us.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.us?do=Odd&odd=NewLayout&_do=List_Models&code=5158&game=3&database=5&c=5158
Mirage Knight
19th Jun 04, 10:29 PM
The hooded cloak idea suits the Dark Angels - they really live out the "devout warrior monk" credo as they tend to be more religious as it were than the other chapters - especially considering their history. Besides, it's one of the things that really sets them apart visually. Some cloth hanging from the back of the Librarian's armour would be a great touch though! On the subject of asthetics, I think the crest of that psyker headgear needs to come down a little - but that's just me nitpicking ;)
BTW - there is a "book" attached to his armour - check out the right shoulder :)

Well on the comment about the weapons and trim having to be the same, in the early SM shots when they had the Ultramarines and stand-ins they had gold trim and red guns.
So maybe there is still hope for you poor DA guys...that assuming they made the ultras with the pictured editor. :D

Of course the Weapons and trim on the Ultramarines were different!!! They are a Preset chapter!!!, if you were to make your own Ultramarines, you would have either yellow trim and boltguns, or red trim and boltguns (the latter kinda like the Ultra's 3rd Co. from 'Firewarrior')
I do not think players of the Progenitor legions need worry: there will be presets with the correct colour schemes!
And on a completely different note: I almost Threw up at BaronVonSakPak's picture!!!
What kind of colour scheme is that??? Bright green chest eagle??? WAA!!!
If i see any chapter like that in MP, I will be very temted to leave the game. :banned:

First thing:
Where did you get that information about which chapters are preset? I've just heard that there are some, but I never read anything about which chapters that are.
Second thing:
Wasn't it the fourth company in Fire warrior? And by the way, following the Codex, they had to have red trims and red Bolters.
I'll check the 2nd thing, because I'm actually not too sure.
EDIT:
EsneM is right. In Fire Warrior it is the 3rd company. Checked in my Insignia Astartes and in the game like Andaius did. Sorry about that one EsneM.

his army is ugly, because it's the "white hand of goulet". and thats from the older version of the editor, and the new one lets you load images to use on the shoulder pads and banners. so he obviously has robert goulet's head on the armor and banner.

Sorry but its a matter of principle. It is merely an editing screen.
No one will answer this now but in the bottom picture, what is the avatar fighting? (I presume fighting).
ceejayoz
20th Jun 04, 12:03 PM
It's just an editing screen, yes, but the level of customizability hasn't been seen in an RTS game before. A lot of people are looking forwards to making their unit colors look like units from the WH40k universe.
In short, can the sarcasm.
As the file name of the avatar fighting demonstrates, those are Defilers.
soqloopr
20th Jun 04, 12:13 PM
eithere the defilers are realy small or the avatar is realy big...
Rethul
20th Jun 04, 12:17 PM
Those are defilers all right, and the avatar is just mighty large, they're definately given him some growth pills as compared to the tabletop. But that's alright because the Avatar's supposed to be big imposing and angry.
Yuryu
20th Jun 04, 12:21 PM
The customization screen looks fabulous, its great that Relic payed so much attention to it since it's such an important part of the WH40k universe. I'm a little puzzled that trim and gun colour are the same, especially since most screenshots show units with different colours for trim and gun. Are those (as mentioned before) preset colour schemes?
ComanderSeagoon
20th Jun 04, 12:29 PM
They said that there is a preset colour scheme for each of the main chapters/craftwolds/gods/clanz.
Dimension
20th Jun 04, 1:03 PM
in the last pic, what besides the two defilers is fighting the avatar? is that a horror?
*edit* or is it the first picture of the elusive posessed?
It could be but the pic is not the best quality in the world but it does look like one.For anyone who can't see it it is by the defiler on the lefts claw that is in the air.

What's the problem? You can have your 3rd company ( Ultramarines, I guess ).
According to the colour customization editorTrim and Weapon are the same colour. The crest ( Eagle on Breastplate ) can be given another colour.
So you can have red Trims together with red Weapons ( which the Ultramarines have) and a golden/ yellow Eagle.
So please no more tears... :bandit:

Will you be able to make and import your own custom badges and/or banners? If so, will people online be able to see them? Also, whats that "+" thing with the skull in the middle at the feet of the Space Marine? If its something like a badge or banner can you import your own whatever-it-is too?
Crackseed
21st Jun 04, 12:04 AM
I believe that skull icon actually has something to do with either the Space Marines or the 40k universe in general :) I've seen it a few times, though my memory fluff-wise is a bit sketchy to remember exactly what it pertains to.
ceejayoz
21st Jun 04, 12:08 AM
Actually, I'd bet my life that the skull can be grabbed and moved around, moving the unit - so you can see it from different angles... you can confirm this theory by the arrows behind the skull.
Crackseed
21st Jun 04, 12:15 AM
The arrows yeah, I was just meaning the SKULL itself though is either SM or general 40k iconography :)

Hail the golden throne!!,
I've just seen the unit custom tool and it looks great!!
You can change everything about the unit including weapon trim "colour" and badges so i presume we all are happy about this........
On a unrelated note it makes me laugh when americans and us english folks have these little spats as don't you think its a little ironic that we play a game where the once loyal space marines turned on their brothers and turned traitor....hint hint
As we all know that us British are the loyalist and you americans are the heretics....
(please not this is meant to be taken in good humour and with a pinch of salt and not meant to offend anyone in anyway) .....but saying that YOU KNOW ITS TRUE HERETICS!!!

Better to be a heretic than fight for a contradiction (an entity that feasts off of sacrificial victims yet is the saviour).
Anyway, I do not understand why people are upset with the Librarian. The arguments such as "The Force Hood is too high" Or "The Staff looks like it should be for a Chaplain". I'm sorry, have you people seen a Librarian for the Blood Ravens before? If I recall Relic is attempting to make a chapter with some sort of unique past and design. I do not see why the poor guy can't look different than other libs. It creates a unique character which I assume will definately be in the SP aspect of the game. If you don't like it, okay, but I think it adds to the chapter.
SpartanArchon
21st Jun 04, 2:07 AM
I agree, PluviusNacht, BR libs should be unique. I also agree that the Emperor sucks. Go ahead, fanatical SM fans - give me everything you've got...
Shakrith
21st Jun 04, 2:14 AM
I think the librarian is fantastic. The hood gives out a nice glow... and what is the deal with the sceptre? It can't be a force weapon, as there is a glowing red sword which is much more suitable for that role in another screenie of him (being killed painfully though it may be).
Triceron
21st Jun 04, 2:25 AM
AWesome screenshots!
I love the customizer, but I slight beef with the interface design. It doesn't look very complete or detailed, and I think a little more effort could be used in making it more believable looking. The little wires are a nice detail but they don't look like they fit there, and the metal could look a bit more metallic, maybe have some shaded or dirted areas, anything to bring out the contrast and break things up a bit.
This is important to me because I'm one of those people who spent more time making creatures in IC than actually playing the game.
Shakrith
21st Jun 04, 2:31 AM
I still think that there should be a little field for "Commander"- many players including myself care about their heroes, and name them. It would get a bit silly to see "So-and-so's nth company of the x legion" all the time. For example, I want to be able to have High Lord Commander Natricius the Perditor, Corruptor of Baphomet IV (well, maybe not the last, haven't even started that campaign yet!) commanding my force, not "High Lord Commander Natricius the Perditor, Corruptor of Baphomet IV's Alpha Legion 17th Company" as my army name. That would be ridiculous.
SpartanArchon
21st Jun 04, 2:43 AM
I don't think Relic assumed someone would have a name that long:
"High Lord Commander Natricius the Perditor, Corruptor of Baphomet IV"
You could just call him Natricius, or Lord Natricious. I mean High lord is getting over the top, as is "the Perditor", and the "Corruptor of Baphomet IV" - now that's just plain silly.
I mean, you could just have, say "Natricius' Alpha legion, 17th Company" or "Natricius the Perditor's 17th Comapny" and the colour cheme would blatantly show that they are Alpha legion. As you said, otherwise it will look ridiculous.

Will there be any badge making feature? As I can't see many being able to do their own badges fantastically well.
You can design your own badge outside the game (eg.using paint) and import it into the game, I'm assuming there will be a folder in the game where you can just import it in.
You should look through some of the custom badges people did for Homeworld 2 ... which also had the ability to import your own badges, and then share them with others; some of them were fuggin' beautiful; one of my boys over at TLSC made me a few personalized ones, and I use 'em every game. Our graphics department is sitting on itchy trigger fingers just WAITING for the specs on file-type and pixels/size for the badges in DoW so they can get cracking on custom-badge orders, tlsc-specific badges, personal badges, etc.
Reck'n I'll be using my standard colors from all Relic games; Black/Dk Grey with Gold trim, but maybe with all these new coloring options I'll come up with a new scheme entirely.
Chances are I won't use the colors from a true existing chapter ... after all, I can't have fellas like Ragnar Blackmane, and I guess I'd just as soon not taint their chapter identities by assigning their colors to the somewhat generic chapter design of the Blood Ravens units.

what i dont get is that you americans love our queen, but u dont seem to realise that she should be your queen aswell.
and if the heretic became better than the loyalist brits... how come chaos hasn't destroyed the impirium yet?
Yeah but Chaos doesn't have better technology, soldiers, numbers, cash, room for growth, and better weather. The Eye of Terror compared to the Imperium resembles Britain compared to North America, rather than vice versa.
azmodean
22nd Jun 04, 10:13 AM
Actually the stream of cultists seems to be near-endless, and demons aren't limited to the Eye. The real limited commodity is the actual csms, who are mostly individuals who defected at the heresy (not counting new traitor legions, not sure how common that is)
On the other hand, the chapter sizes were unlimited at the time of the heresy, any fluff masters know how many csms actually got away into the Eye after the heresy?
Lord Johan

Most csm actullaly got away i know enough to know that... the chaos cant conquer the imperium yet becuase they themselves are limited. Your saying that like the Aussies created it, fairly certain that the British did during WW2 so the Aussies would just be a knock off of that :)
But yes, the SAS is regarded as one of the best in the world.

Most csm actullaly got away i know enough to know that... the chaos cant conquer the imperium yet becuase they themselves are limited. And well for the usa agaisnt uk i think usa would win 1. more troops 2. better training 3. NUKES LOTS AND LOTS OF NUKES 4. ur on a really small island easy to invade compared to america :D
Plus land of the free OHHHH SAY CAN YOU SEE BY THE....
more troops, yes.... better troops, HELL NO! britain still has the best military in the world, the best navy in the world, and the best airforce!
and on a side note... british forces account for 2% of friendly fire cases in major conflicts, compared to the american 70% :P
you guys should have sided with saddam, then he really would have been screwed!
and the british special forces are the single greatest force in the world, since the spartans :P
oh and "a really small island easily conqured ??? excuse me but what do you think happened in WW2... battle for britain... if the entire german looftwaffa couldn't defeat us, then what chace do you think you would have?
and terrorism is being used agasint the USA for the simple reason that you cant stay out of other peoples business! your trying to make the whole world a big democracy, but it isn't going to work.... terrorism isn't gonna go away unitll the western world stops trying to change the world!
back on topmic folks... chaos ruls!

Guys, stop the flaming or this thread is heading quickly to extinction.
Can't we all just get along?
Sure, the US does tend to pry, but without their prying, we would be much worse off than today. I don't agree with all of their decisions, but we need someone to stick their noses in or the world would be even more screwed up than it is now.
People tend to slag the US so much, but if your country was in deep trouble, who would you turn to? The US, as the biggest country in the world (not in actual land mass, but other obvious areas) has taken responsibility like an older brother. He might push you down the stair once in a while, but when you need him, he's there.
ROFL @ any "logic" claiming Britain would win a war vs. the US

1st Off, Aussies are damn dirty convicts. [lol]
2nd British people are better than Americans.
3rd Americans are gung-ho enough to actually attack Britain for whatever reason. ("Omg, the Queen doesnt wear Victoria Secret! Kill her!")
4th I have a feeling that the Canadians would pwn both countries before any war happened. (GO MOUNTIES!)
-End of Discussion-
Back on topic, I was just remarking on the interesting choice for the Librarian's Golden armor, instead of the traditional Blue.
Personally, I think this is a good move by Relic, to avoid confusion with Librarians in Blue armies (UMs).
I think it's pretty effective.
Good job, Dow-Team! :-P

and the americans could never conquor britain,
1) u'd have to cross the atlantic :P
2) u'd probably end up resorting to nukes simply coz u cant win any other way.
3) u cant ally with anyone becasue they're more likely to side with us/ u'd prob friendly fire them so much they abandoned you...
need i go on?
