If your talking about the Adeptus Custodies they aren't exactly a space marine chapter there just the Emperor’s personal guard, however my favorite Chapter would be the Fire Hawks (Also known as the Legion of the Damned) an army of ghosts how can you beat that. Legion wise the Ultramarines hands down were the best.

PS: yes I am serious the Ultramarines where the coolest founding legion.

The Ultramarines could be so very much better if they abandoned that ridiculous color scheme. It's hard to see them as the ultimate SM chapter when they wear such garish and fruity looking colors. Seriously, that's what put me off from them in the first place to build a DA army instead.

Ultras fruity? every time i see a blood angel it makes me hunger for marmalade.

I kinda like the salamanders, CC is always fun, and their primarch has the niftiest fluff imo (whoopin eldar ass with twin self-forged hammers, dueling the emperor in a series of contests). the fluff on some other primarchs seems somewhat over the top in my eyes, say Lion'El Johnson's mysteeeeeeeeeeeerious upbringing, and mister raised-by-wolves-sucking-lupine-teat Leman Russ.

I've never really liked space marines,but if i had to choose,the next in line would be dark angels.

there is only a chance of turning into a wulfen, but you have a better chance of digesting yourself due to the rapid body growth the recruits go through. And besides, getting fangs builds character, hehehe

if i had to be a loyalist SM then i would probably be one of the grey knights, they have the gene seed of the emperor!!!

Ultramarines are my personal favorites. What's wrong with Blue armour? dire acengers have a bleu armour colour by default too.

after that i'd have to go with legion of the damned. The trial cursed founding rules allow you to field an entire force of them.(they get a invulnerable +5 save and deep strike for some additional cost per model)

as for Chaos chapters, i absolutely Loathe anything nurgle or slaanesh related so i have to go world eaters and thousand sons.

Doom Eagles. Brutal initiation and you must conceed that you are already dead. Of course I've only read a couple stories on em. However, walking around thinking your already dead must not be a fun thought.

When I think of the Adeptus Custodies I think of an Army of Grey Knight Grandmasters (emm strength 6 force weapons + Daemonhammers = yummy) does any one know of any official fluff on them, the only thing I know about them is that they are also referred to as Centurions (see white dwarf 292 story about St. Dominica) and that they are the Emperors personal guard.

Dark Angels. The first Space Marine Legion founded. They were the reason I started with WH40K ( Space Hulk computer game ).

After that, Grey Knights and the Deathwatch ( okay, they are not really a chapter of their own ).

Following that, I like the Adeptus Custodes. The personal bodyguard of the Emperor.

Ionthas Paladi: The Custodes were founded even before the Space Marines were. In the Art Book Horus Heresy Vol. 1, you can read, that they are even stronger than a Space Marine. A good reason to chose them as bodyguard. But these are the only things I know about them.

I also like Blood Angels ( especially Death company ), Space Wolves, Black Templars and the Legion of the Damnded.

Just to be anal, he did state chapter. That means no Chaos (since they were always Legions. Blah to semantics!) or Adeptus. For favorite chapter I'd have to say Dark Angels. I mean they all are pretty much loners and solemn because they have "their secret." Although their Heresy-borne marines are undoubtably dead now, they still are repenting for the actions of their predecessors.

Now that has got to really suck :).

Pre-heresy I'd have to go with Thousand Sons. They were, to some extent, as loyal as they could be barring the fact that they did not heed the Emperor's words about using their sorcery. However, they were the only ones who saw it coming, and undoubtably would have fought by the Emperor's side if not for the over-zealous Space Wolves raping their planet.

Tsk tsk. Bad call on that one Gold-man. Now you see why I play Chaos :).

well the best chapter for me is kinda hard to pick
at first i would say the black dragons but as there is almost no fluff on them other than the fact that they grow blade bones from there arms and bony crests on there heads i cant say much about them

my fave to play is black templar i mean geez if you play them right they cannot be badly beaten but that is only if you play them right and they really dont have anything to lose what with no home world and all

and last would be leigon of the damned i mean possibly the coolest loyal sm minis ever released and you should see the conversions i have done i mean whats better than a loyal undead space marine the answer is one with a skull instead of a helmet and hey it is very cool modding a scythe on one of those poor bastards as a cc power weapon

as you know space marines are from a Gene Seed of the founder(one of the emporors sons) but the legio custodies are from the emperors Gene seed (so their very badass) they guard Terra with storm bo;ters on force halberds

I think that the Flesh Tearers have an interesting story: Blood Angels that are so far gone that they consume the flesh of their fallen foes.

Definately Space Wolves. Of Course I am biased but the difficult initiation and yet the brotherhood of the warrior appeal to me. Won't find a meaner bunch of space marines, especially as they guard the eye of terror.

Legio custodies= Wearing Gold armour (i think it is artificer)
Legio custodies= Wielding storm bolters on the end of halberds (either nemesis or full force)
Legio custodies= Guard Terra but will do emporers will and kick some serious ass
Legio custodies= More zealous than Black templars

They're spread all over the place. Obviously your starting point would be Codex: Space Marines. For the specialty chapters, you can find most of it in their respective codexes (Dark Angels, Space Wolves, Blood Angels, probably one I'm forgetting). Then there are the Index Astartes books, of which there are three. Each of these has background fluff and stories about various chapters (as well as some other stuff). I've only got the first one, which has info on the Dark Angels (in addition to the Codex), Iron Warriors (Chaos), Emperor's Children (Chaos), White Scars, and Flesh Tearers. I think the later ones have info on the odd chapters like the SMs who guard the Emperor. Then there's stuff you find in White Dwarf (much of which was compiled into the Indexes).

There are sites out there with interesting info, but all of it in addition to the canonical stuff I've listed above, none of which you will find online.

You've got to be really, really into 40k to keep up with all this stuff...

And a force commander with a daemon weapon is kickass.

well, all of the loyalists are weak, but the least weak has to be the space wolves, simply becasue they look sooo much cooler than all of the other chapters.

but best legion by far are the iron warriors :P

As the proud owner of a Dark Angels army which works out to be about 5000 points depending on how i tool it, i'd say them.

120 infantry (give or take a few), 3 bikes & 2 land speeders (both Ravenwing black), Predator, Rhino and Land Raider as well as almost all of the Chapter specific special characters.

I've just got back from time away in the US. Not played in about 2 years.
