Hey all! I discovered the WH40k universe when I was 13, now I am 27, and bowed out when the prices were getting too high for my taste(when I was 21) and other loves took control (music). One of the aspects I loved the most was painting, but was a anal about it so I mostly played with a 3/4 painted Eldar army. I was wondering if any of you have pics posted of your armies? I would like to see how people are painting out there now. Also anyone from Los Angeles been to the Bunker store? Is it worth a trip to check it out?
I must say though, seeing this game in action at E3 rekindled all the memories of the beatuiful war-torn universe :D

Welcome Gabba. Inspired by how much I liked Warhammer Fantasy, I started playing 40k 1st edition when it came out in 87 (was in high school then), stopped a year later, had another bout of playing 40k in the mid-90s when I was in the army, stopped when I went to grad school, and last November got back into the game for the third time. Seems folks always come back to 40k sooner or later ;). Nice to see another old timer.
Compared to the models from when you last played, the detail has gotten markedly better. Sadly, as has been pointed out elsewhere, the prices have gotten much higher, too. A few of my current Dark Angels SMs are repainted Ultramarines from my last bout of 40k interest, and they don't look nearly as good as the new SMs I've bought for my army. The vehicles look even better than that - put an old Rhino next to a new one to see the difference.

I spent one summer working and spent about 850 quid buying most of what i need. I now only need perhaps another 100-150 quids worth of models and i'll have a completely rounded army (4-5 thousand points). After that it's just a case of painting (the rest) and buying the books.
Splash the cash early and you're set for life :D
check the 40k link in my signature for pics of my army :)
