I think "Warhammer 40k - Final Liberation" is your best bet.

That games crap. i dont think there is one. DOW, this game, is your best bet. its closest youll find. Alternativly, you may find enough bitz and peices to Mod an existing game to "look" like 40k (i did it with UT, Orks, marines, boltgun mod was... meh got to admit though, the UT SM skin was the bomb) ANYWAY. point being, you wont find a quality Warhammer game out there atm. If any, maybe chaos gate... but that pans out more like warhammer skirmish and has crummy graphics and unit selection (its also the old rules for 40 k with Plasma and haywire grenades).

ok... I know that didnt help much but its the grim reality right now.

OH ANOTHER GAME JUST CAME TO MIND!!! that Epic game. i forgot the name, but your squads moved around, shot, acted as squads. orcs garrisoned in buildings. it was good. but its so old i doubt youll find it. anyway. happy hunting.

Yeah.. No comment on Rites of War...

DoW is about the universe of 40k though, not the table-top. Not that I'm complaining, I like it better that way. :)

Lett me tell you a story about rites of war. I got it cos the cover art was cool and it was cheap, after about 2 hours of play i realised how bad it was and havent played it since, hell i dont eaven know where it is.This game is so bad i hit my friends when they mention its name(and the do the same to me) its a good way of never having to think about the awfulness of that game.

Final Liberation is good, as far as 40K games go.

Yeah, I liked Final Liberation too. I still have it, and play it every now and again. It's very dated though, graphics subpar even for 1998 when it was released. But it was definitely fun. I loved the Ork Gargants.

Final Liberation did have some cool FMV cutscenes though. There were two I really liked, the first where they show Ultramarines having a ritual before landing on the planet (Force Commander holding up this chalice and blessing it), and the second when the Planetary Governor's palace is liberated, and the Commissar subjects the Governor to a humiliating dressing-down.

IMO you dont want to play a game that just translates the TT to a PC format. If it plays in the exact same way as the TT it would take hours (roll an e-d6 for every shot) for a single game and an AI would probably either play awfully or be too good, and would be predictable. The TT system works because you are playing face to face with another player over an actual game area, and taking turns and using dice are the only way to make a game like that fair and coordinated.
Just play DoW. Its not the TT, but it looks good enough.
If you really want something more true to TT rules, final liberation is a good game, though its based on Epic40k and uses a slightly different system (and is also really old)
Off topic slightly, anyone read the ork fluff in thre FL manual? what did you think of the 'great ork empire' and the brainboyz? not GWs best work, but pretty funny.

Chaos gate is indeed one of the best out there. But it was designed for Windows 95/98 so good luck getting it to work properly on 2000 or XP which are NT based.
Probably best thread on this is found here. (http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread26525-1.html)

Yeah, Final Liberation was fun, but the Imperials were overpowered. Orks rightly specialized in CC, but good luck getting them there.

The game was a bit too shooty.

I have rites of war in my compter tray right now.And final liberation is an all right game if you can find it and get it to work;it doesn,t seem on most newer computers.

If you want a great warhammer game i would get Dark Omen. Shadow of the horned rat is good to but it,s hard to tell apart what units are what because it looks so old.

There all hard to find now.I was lucky and got 4 in a pack and found rites of war used. :mag:
